We had a good covering first thing this morning, but it's all gone now. A couple of snow showers in the last hour or so but it just melted on contact.

Oh dear Sheffield will soon be gridlocked.

The sky is getting heavier by the minute, but I don't think the showers will be sufficient enough to cause any hassle???

sorry to be the voice of doom, but - i shouldnt get too excited. this is not set to last what with feb temperatures on the up as we head towards spring. central europe has seen an increase in its temperatures over the past few weeks and therefore the "cooling" effect on us will not amount to much. my honest opinion, a flash in the pan. bring on spring! as you can see... its not sticking at higher levels and the precipitation is a mix of slush and snow, its hardly prolonged - more showery and now the sun shines again.

I had the lovely task of getting my car out of snow last night- big sis lives high up in the Pennines, and they had several inches of snow fall at teatime, but it was only sticking at the very highest altitude, and even theirs melted this morning when it started to rain.

You could try Fords of Winsford, they generally get good reviews.

Hmm. It snowed for about 5seconds yesterday and a suspicious number of my students were absent. I don't teach you do I...?:suspect:

It better stop snowing. I have a funeral today. Fortunately a cremation not burial but still negotiating city road crem in the snow wouldn't be a lark.

I was standing on Dore Station this morning at 0815am in a blizzard, due to one flake of snow on the line in the Hope Valley area the train was 8 mins late.

Snow had nothing to do with the delay - the 0821 Dore to Sheffield was delayed 7 minutes at Chinley Junction to allow a late running Transpennine Express to get in front of it, which had been delayed by a signalling problem at Manchester Airport.

Trains can generally still be relied to get you there when it snows, and normally keep running after the roads are knackered.

Why does it always snow at random times in this country!

Why dont we ever get proper snow anymore!

How come the whole country goes into chaos at the sign of the first snow flake?

Chances of snow have risen in my opinion as a front moves in overnight from Scandanavia and the North Sea and hits our cooler "stagnant" air. Prediction is heavy snow on its leading edge with our region seeing accumulations (especially at higher levels) of up to 1 to 2 cm's. Expected to turn to rain as Thursday morning progresses. Looking great for the North and East/Midlands from 6am onwards. Just a prediction - could be wrong, but great for injecting a little excitement onto the board!

Better dust off me wellingtons!

seaweed is as fresh as a newly laid quails egg. its still a flash in the pan - will never amount to much, and as I look at the slugde on my patio - I can see why.

 I know this won't be of the slightest interest to you all in Sheffield but I have got to say it anyway.....
It's snowing here in Bournemouth as well. We don't usually get much snow being as we are so near the sea I think, but it's doing it now and I have just been out in it...Yayyyyy
Big flakes but doesn't seem to be settling. Now wheres that camera.:)

Right, just as I thought but I didn't want anyone in Sheffield to think that they were the only ones being targeted by the dreaded white stuff.
Besides, there could have been SOMEONE driving down this way in the following couple of hours that might have been glad of a clue as to what they could expect.
Never mind, suns out today in a blue sky.
