My amp is operating strangely. One channel is fine. The other channel is playing but very, very quietly. You can hear the music coming through the other speaker but only just, while the other one is rocking away at full blast. I've tried a different cable, so it's not that. Suggestions?

Could just be a component gone. If it were Chesterfield I'd say take it to JPG Electronics but any good electrics shop should be able to sort it for you :)

I'd confirm it with a different source on another input and check for accidental balance control settings before unplugging it and lugging it someplace.

Yes, check the balance and also try the other inputs.

I once had this problem caused by a loose connection on the pickup of the record deck (old problem!!).

Sound control in Sheffield are pretty good - maybe pick their brains - they may even fix it for you :)

Hope you're well x

Try Pete Hartley on the corner of London Road and Sharrow lane

it sounds like the pre amp stage has gone down for one of the channels

i'd go with carcrash's suggestion. looks a state but he's a freindly insomniac/nightowl. and with no pointless fancy shop making the overheads soar , his prices are good too.

Pete Hartley is no longer there, hasnt been there for a while..

It sounds to me as though theres a short in side, from the positive to the negative on that channel, if its not a short somewhere obvious on the out side(like an input or output) then it'll be inside, Could be dust or anything...

Sounds more like our old friend the output transistor. Don't use the amp until it's fixed as you have the chance to damage the loudspeaker as well.

That's assuming you have checked all the leads and mixer controls.
