New Year - New Start!!!

I've just started the SlimFast shakes diet, i'm following it to the letter and i'm desperate for it to work...any success stories to give me a boost???

Im thinking of going on a diet and saw Slimfast was on special offer. How does it work, and is it expensive ?

You have a shake for beakfast and one for lunch and 2 fruit/veg snacks and a 600cal dinner. There are other ways, SlimFast soups and bars etc but i find those quite expensive.

careful with slimfast, look at the ingredients, it contains a hell of a lot of sugar!! If looking for a meal replacement, would be better with something like Ultrameal from Nutri.

i lost quite a bit of weigh on slimfast a few years ago but the weight went straight on again when i stopped having it because it teaches u nothing about food, you would be much better on something like ww or sw that teach you about what you can and cat eat and can be maintained for a lifetime not just a quick fix

I did slimfast once quite a long time ago and it did work but I started to crave savory things and put the weight back on. If I did it again I think I'd make sure I had proper meal in the evening

If you want to lose weight the only real way is to exercise more and/or eat less

Beckysmith18,

SlimFast will work for the first week (at best). Your body will begin to plateau after that. Your body is a very smart system, if you're only feeding it 600 calories a day, it will adjust your metabolism, decreasing the rate, so your body doesn't starve. Most of the weight loss will be muscle and water, and a lil bit of fat. SlimFast is full of sugar and artificial vitamins, I don't know how that can ever be healthy for your body.

My weight had been going up and I thought no one believed me when I said I wasnt eating much. Slimfast was one of the only times I actually lost weight but I couldnt keep it going so I had a course of hypnotherapy and CBT which is the best thing Ive ever done and my weight is much easier to handle now

I just love these comments.

Slim fast works but remember its a money making operation as are all the weight loss things. If it helped you lose weight and keep it off it would a) be far more expensive and would have probably solved world obesity and b) they would not have any repeat business so it wouldn't be a good business model. When you stop slimfast you lose your control mechanism. You need to start controlling what you eat yourself and making a permanent lifestyle change.

I use Myfitnesspal.com and I know many people how do and it works. It works because it encourages you to think about what you eat more. You can track what you've eaten and how many calories you have left. you can monitor how much you burn through exercise. It has an extensive database and it is available as a phone app too.

What Antone says is true but we all know that if it was that simple we wouldn't be overweight! Its the mental barrier that is the hardest to overcome. Keeping a food diary is the best way of keeping what you eat in your conscious thought so you're less likely to 'forget' and let those portions creep up.

I also recommend a weigh in and measurement day. If you're exercising more and building muscle more you might not see so much weight loss on the scales so if you measure your waist, arms, thighs etc you may notice a reduction here instead.

A treat day is also an essential. If you know you've got a treat coming up you'll probably be able to ignore cravings and make your self wait. Rather than giving in and 'cheating'. There is no cheating if once a week you can have cake and Pizza!

Hope this helps.
