I know this issue has been raised numerous times before but do people really think that the Heart of the City development is of high enough quality or of sufficient iconic status to commemorate a one in a thousand year celebration (the millenium).I'm talking about the commercial developments of the scheme.

Whether or not it stands up to scrutiny in terms of iconic value, the thing's going ahead as we speak.

Quite correct Carmine.Just because a development is going ahead doesn't mean the debate can't continue.Views are still wanted on this issue with possible alternative proposals which can remain in the wings for years to come.

At times it seems to me that the average Sheffield resident has little actual knowledge of the extensive changes that are on the cards for the city centre and indeed the whole city blocks that'll be disappearing very soon.

Exactly Carmine. This is why the debate must continue.Do we want to become a miniature version of New York in 50 years time?

There are those that would say Sheffield could learn a lot from New York's example. They cleaned up their streets and improved their image in a major way...of course it involved constant oppression of those unable to defend their interests against the city's policies.

The rot has been allowed to set in for far too long in this city.

The rennovation of Western Park museum revealed that the foundations were in serious need of extensive repair, parts of the city centre are little more than concrete piles.

Right! I would still like to know what changes/improvements you would like to see.Positives as well as negatives please.

An extensive programme of rebuilding for the Sheaf Market area for a start.

An extensive programme of rebuilding for the Sheaf Market area for a start.

I'll second that, - and include the whole of Waingate and Haymarket, Flat street and the wretched Roxy etc. - why are the council are putting so much time and effort into the NRQ, - and now the West bar development, when there's this huge commercial slum in our backyard ?
