Not anymore you don't I had an email from them the other week saying they were closing their free sms service as of the 18th of March. The only way you can get these now is to register for their mail service for which they charge £2.99 a month.

Fonetastic.co.uk give ten free SMS per day and you can earn credits with them. Could it be them?

Incidentally I'm looking for a way to send multiple text messages in bulk to many phones. Any ideas on software for this?

I've found another free sms service. You may even implement this service to your website:

You only get 10 free sms per month with O2, and I'm registered.

I've never tested this but it should work.

Just google "email to SMS gateway address" and search for the carrier you want.

According to this website (http://www.mutube.com/projects/open-email-to-sms/gateway-list/) O2 is 44n @ mmail.co.uk where n is the phone number.

Just stick your message (150 characters) in the subject line and send the email. This require no registration and there are no limits.

I am not sure if charges are made to the user recieving them.

i'm working on a website to allow this, also selling keywords in bulk, like for example sending "REF SFORUM" to the number (something lke 81303) will reply with the website URL and title.. - the replies and keywards are editable.

will be selling this to businesses, so if anyone's interested, let me know now ;)

Any updates?

yeah, the site was completed, it worked and operated perfectly as expected, then my business partner -the person who was meant to know all about promotion and advertising- didn't do anything, so no business was gained and the site has been closed down..

i do however still have the site, i just need the backing and a host..

the short code number is easy to get hold of again, and the site is still functional once uploaded and database created...
