Mr Fleming was the looney who used to put his hand through blackboards and doors and came to school on a honda 50. Then there was Mr Cornthwaite, Mr Eadon, Mr Allsop, Mr Wright, Mr Littlewood.......it's all flooding back now!
Have some great memories of Chaucer though but it seems to have taken a bit of a dive in recent years.

talking about mr flemming. the teacher with the dummy hand. well i was caned for sloping my writing the wrong way, in other words it should have been italic style, the marks were still on my hand a week later and another girl on the same day was caned for not using blotting paper to avoid fingerprints. what a nice man he was. if anyone forgot thier pen we had to somehow get him on the subject of gardening. as we all know how he loved his gardening. that was his weakness you see.

Anyone know John Bramall?
muddycoffee 25-05-2005, 21:24 I went to chaucer,
around 81 - 85.
Mr Boreham, Mr Joyce(physics and ran chess club) , Miss Morby(Later Mrs Brabham), Mr Goodier (fab music teacher a.k.a. Mr Bristles) Mr Wasteny (crazy pottery/art and banjo player) Mr Bell (nasty head teacher but fantastic english teacher) Miss Hayes(later Mrs Morton? MY maths teacher set 1) Mr wilshaw (Computer teacher and cornet player) Mr parsons (woodwork and church pipe organ enthusiast) Mr Rain (diminutive music teacher) Mr Morton (mr hippy, my mate used to sell him cigars!) Mr glover (Geography and Drumkit Player) Mr Leighton Games teacher, Mr hardy (rock hard older games teacher!) Mr Guest(Phil collins look alike, used to give pop quizzes and play music and told occasional dirty jokes) Mrs safar (sour faced french teacher) Mr wells (Biology teacher who used to alternate between a silly baby voice and a shouting at the top of his lungs voice- ought to be in little britain)
Mr Joyce lives in woodseats now, and I am on first name terms with him these days, and I have a good laugh and a beer with him sometimes when we meet again in local pubs.
LOWEnBEHOLD 13-07-2005, 18:52 I was at chaucer from 82/83' season to 86/87' season, the names Jason Lowe, those of you who went to Chaucer from Southey Green will remember me as Jason Carr, Carey to my friends.
I started in the 1st year and was a fusty funder to those of you who remember the eccentric Mrs Sutherland.
For me Mr Crowe was the main man, and Mr Wells was.....well I won't say. Had many a run in with that man!!!!
Who remembers playing Aston Comp @ rugby.
Every team ended up fighting, and as a 2nd year put shame to their 4th year cock.
The most fanciable girl in my year was Nicola Donahore, last I saw of her was working in netto's, sheff lane top.
still see the old gang, Melvyn Christian, Rob Stancil, Brett Johnson.
If anyone does remember me, drop me a line..
in reply to muddycoffee regarding mr hardy, he was a fag always watching you in the showers.
Mr guest taught my class R.E but we always turned it into sex ed, but a sorted guy
mr page was my maths/computer teacher, not hard to miss him as his chin ran into his neck, hence the nickname no-chin.
Mr bainbridge taught home economics and what a pregnant goldfish he was
most teachers were sound some better, some worse but the true B******s stood out a mile.
But once again i'll say that the top man was Crowey, even though he is a blade lol

muddycoffee 13-07-2005, 21:06 Hi LOWEnBEHOLD
you will be in the same year as my little brother Nick. I was two school years older. Reply to this post and you will be one post away from having PMs [personal messages] and welcome to the forum.
I was in Mr Boreham's form class in 2o2 and 2o3 and I did Chemistry with him. I understand he was a public school educated boy, and I remember him having trouble communicating with some of the more difficult/troublesome people in our year to a some degree.. In my adult life I have had a friend like this who had a public school education, and I recognise very similar attitudes and now understand much better how he was in those times and how I got the wrong end of the stick about his attitude and motivations. It would be good to meet him again and say hello..
I am not complaining about him, I just found him a little confusing. But being brought up in hillsborough and sent to chaucer for my secondary education [same as Madowl] I didn't come across many people like him.
LOWEnBEHOLD 13-07-2005, 21:28 I still see him from time to time, usually as i'm passing the train or bus station. He still does loads of bike riding and mountain/hill climbing. Our nickname for him was joe 90, cos he talked and walked like the puppet joe 90, loved his lessons though, nearly blew up the science lab with washing up bottles in his lesson. The other science teacher was mr joyce, he was sorted as well, Mr Palmer weren't to bad but them desks didn't half make a racket when he slammed them down, or even the chalk board rubber flying at your head lol.....though were the days :hihi:
LOWEnBEHOLD 13-07-2005, 21:32 What's your view of crowey??

I had to go to his office for a bo^^cking a few times and I remember his amusing assemblies. He was ok, slightly scruffy looking with his hair, pretty good bloke I'd say.

Yes He was great too, he was my physics teacher, and he must have been quite young in those days, he's still a great bloke, must be around 50 now and his hair is white.

teffey_2003 03-11-2005, 13:32 sorry to drag this thread up again after a month or so. I was at Chaucer 1993 -1998. Was anyone else there during these 5 years?
Mr Crowe, Mr Fields, Mrs Broadhurst, Mrs Harvey, Mr Glover, Mr Fogg, Mrs Peters, Mrs Sellars ,Mrs Bickerstaff, Mrs Birch. Mr Crane, Mrs Johns, Mr Palmer, Mrs Marsden (who later became Mrs Pollard), Mr Boreham & Mr Wells. Some others there I remember included Mr Parkin (my form teacher), Mrs Radford, Mrs Brown, Mrs Brownlie, Mr Cubberley & Mr Bainbridge. Any of these teachers ring a bell?
Mr Crowe was the best teacher ever - he encouraged my love of literature and i thank him dearly for that - his youth clubs were pretty wonderful too - seeing him dance to tiger feet was unforgettable!!!

Do you recall his battle cry? It was Check three words: Watch it
Missuer!!
I was at Chaucer from the first term it opened,we went there from Hillsborough junior school aged 11yrs and i am now 61 although i still am very young at heart.
Some teachers names from then Were Mr. Darvill the head and Mr Newham who i think came from Hillsborough and the notorious Mr. Popple who once gave us a punishment essay to write called "Manners maketh man" for being late consistently anyway none of us did it and we were caned until one of the lads brought his dad up who sorted the teacher out.
School mates as follows, Barry Bishop, Dave Hunston,Roger Cade,Walt Mcreath, (Custard) malcolm Mackenzie,Rodney McNamara, Pete Swann, Mick Battles,Dennis Riley.
By god we had some fun and in fairness although times were hard allround I feel lookin back it must have been worthwhile
cause I,ve had a reight good life and done well out of it all.
zoboz111 13-01-2006, 19:14 Hi i went to Chaucer and left 2000-2001 one of them years any way.
Was in Mr Carlings class and saw him and Miss Sellor's when my younger sister was looking at secondary school's last year, also saw Mr Rain the music teacher still grumpy.
Please pm me if you left around the same time?
Barbarian 14-01-2006, 11:45 I was in Mr Crowes class in 69/70 and remember his spelling test allways ended in silhouette, (see Ross I can spell it now - took 30 years but i did it). I also remember his friends Tom Dick and Harry. I wonder if he remembers dealing out corporal punishment? I remember some of the other teachers too, some good some bad, some complete ***** that would be jailed nowadays. I can honestly say i never miss school, but then again i couldn't have been a joy to teach!!
yes Mr.Raine he was a strange little grumpy ginger man!

Was in Mrs Tempest's class (fab also) and had Mr Seal for English, who I'll always remember coz he thought I was great!!!!
Did anyone go on residential with Mr Crowe? We did - twice! How that man can drink! We trashed one of the mini-buses in an 'accident' where someone (ahem...no names...) let the handbrake off outside the cottage. Does anyone remember that? Was brill!!!
Barbie girl - Who are you? :o :hihi:
I went 91 to 96 - (i think)
Wasnt residential freezing - having to sneak upstairs at night, :hihi: :hihi:
English with Mr Seal was great.... red drawft and all that, which is probably why i still cant spell.

Ahhhhh...those were the days......
Didnt realise it was posh looking now, it was damp and grotty. Looking back, how on earth did the school get away with taking us there.
I go to WW class at chaucer now, its even worst than i remember at school and we go to the "new" part too.
barbiegirl80 10-07-2006, 12:53 Oh dear...s'pose looks can be deceiving. Am dreading my lil girl going there...

I vaguely (sp?) remember these names, although they were a couple of years above me.
I was there 93 - 98. Had Mr Parkin (TP - Science teacher) as my form teacher. Have already named some of my teachers on a previous post on this thread.
Mr Crowe - Loved by many. Had him for careers in Y11. Let us watch The Full Monty, which everyone loved him for. One of the few teachers that everyone will remember as a top guy.
Mr Bainbridge - now retired, living abroad. Always remember him having the worst temper. He taught languages. There was once a rumour going around whilst I was there that he threw chairs about whilst in one of his moods.
hi i went to chaucer. My name is vanessa. i was in mr hawksworths form. it is really wierd because mr field, mr crowe, mrs sellars, mrs bickerstaffe, mr wells, mr fogg and mr craine are all still there.

The Crowe must have been there for getting on for nearly 30 years he was there when i was at chaucer (81-85). It was quite a good school then with a sixth form, I hear it has gone down the pan somewhat since then.
I left Chaucer 3 years ago. Mr Crowe taught my father, Kevin Roy Broadley around 1979. Anyone remember my father???? Mr Crowe was still there when I started in 1998 but he left around 2001. Mr Craine was my form tutor and maths teacher (he now teaches maths to my younger sister so he is still there), Mr Wells :loopy: left 2003 same year as me. Mrs Sellors used to organise many talent contests in my first few years there. Mr Fogg was still teaching Geography and Mr Boreham was there, Mr Bainbridge left half way through my second year.
Went to Chaucer '91 - '96 and, as I've already read it a million times but I'll say it anyway, Mr Crowe was a fantastic teacher!

I went on residential to the school cottage in Pickering during the 1998 World Cup and Mr Crowe took us all to the nearest boozer and let us watch the one England game whilst we were there. He was fantastic! :hihi:
I remember Mr Farms the Geography teacher ,who liked to throw wooden board rubbers and Mr Fleming who loved to tell us about the wounds inflicted by Napalm bombing In Vietnam just after we had our lunch .
pinkdolphin3 22-09-2006, 10:00 i went to chaucer from 81 to 85 my form was 203 etc
Jabberwocky 22-09-2006, 10:04 I remember Mr Farms the Geography teacher ,who liked to throw wooden board rubbers and Mr Fleming who loved to tell us about the wounds inflicted by Napalm bombing In Vietnam just after we had our lunch .
I remember Mr Flemming, the man with the bionic arm who was reputed to punch blackboards in half when he lost his temper. Within a week of starting at chaucer, Flemming and I had a little..."Run-in" with each other and hid reputation was so bad that i actually thought that i was going to be beaten into a jelly.
teffey_2003 29-09-2006, 08:04 i think my registration tutor was a woodwork tutor
it wasn't Mr Carlin or Mr Sharples was it? They are the only 2 woodwork tutors I knew from around that time?

Madowl,
that's mad..
I also had Mrs Payne, for form teacher but when I was in 402 and 502, when I was in the lower school 202 and 302 I had Mr Boreham
I can't work out how you could have had her at that time, because I am in the school year 1 older than you I think?, and therefore we would have had her at the same time in different buildings. Although we might have been in the same year after all.
She was a small woman who taught remedial maths, very friendly and pleasant.

Form 2M2..:suspect: can you remember the lower school... there was a ramp up to the library... on the same side b4 the ramp there was a class room that was my form room.....i think the classroom opposite was the french room... i started chaucer in 81 as we moved from hillsborough due to the rd works.... remember??:suspect: i was in the same form as Andrew thompson... Mrs payne was my form teacher all through chaucer... when we moved to the upper school our form room was in one of the prefab buildings...

lady linz 06-10-2006, 21:45 sorry to drag this thread up again after a month or so. I was at Chaucer 1993 -1998. Was anyone else there during these 5 years?
Mr Crowe, Mr Fields, Mrs Broadhurst, Mrs Harvey, Mr Glover, Mr Fogg, Mrs Peters, Mrs Sellars ,Mrs Bickerstaff, Mrs Birch. Mr Crane, Mrs Johns, Mr Palmer, Mrs Marsden (who later became Mrs Pollard), Mr Boreham & Mr Wells. Some others there I remember included Mr Parkin (my form teacher), Mrs Radford, Mrs Brown, Mrs Brownlie, Mr Cubberley & Mr Bainbridge. Any of these teachers ring a bell?
i was in same year i was in tp mr tim parkin great years would go back to them any time
stella fan 09-10-2006, 19:51 I left Chaucer 3 years ago.
I remember Kevin Broadley left the same year as me 1980 he used to play in the football team with Paul Hankcock centre back i think.
Anyone remember Mr Dower, evil!

marypoppins 05-11-2006, 21:18 :o cant believe you have actually jogged my memory i dont remember any of school or much of my past. Yet i have always rememberd the teacher on the honda. i think it was english class with him. he was lovely to me. never told me off for looking out of the window as i always did.
I was there from '63 to '68. I remember Denise Bishop and Marie Marsden too!
Mr Fleming was the looney who used to put his hand through blackboards and doors and came to school on a honda 50. Then there was Mr Cornthwaite, Mr Eadon, Mr Allsop, Mr Wright, Mr Littlewood.......it's all flooding back now!
Have some great memories of Chaucer though but it seems to have taken a bit of a dive in recent years.
marypoppins 05-11-2006, 21:35 :) do you remember penny beresford or caroline beresford one would have been there in the same year the other one a year below or above you ???Katrina
I was there from 1966-69
I do remermber Mr Collinson if I recall correctly he was a tall chap with a moustache and on the portly side.
He ran a dance scholl in the Langsett Rd area.
Other Teachers were Jim Davidson, (Fezz) Parker both Maths. (Pop) Newall was Deputy Head. (Fred) Fleming taught English I beleive.
Pupils I recall are numerous. Glenn Adcock, Mick Henderson, Phil Murphy, Dave Smedley. Lynn Dilks, Susan Clarke, Janice Thwaites.
Do they ring any bells?
My name is Mark Simmonite.
Would you or any other reader be interested in instigated a reunion?
Hi i went to chaucer from 73-79 and have some good memories of it.
Most of the teachers were ok but the ones that stand out for me where Mr Crowe(English), Mr Marsden(History), Mr Wells(maths i think),Mr Palmer(chemistry) and Mr Hardey and Seamen (P.E.) all good teachers. i remember the rugby team i played in up until the fourth year with Mark Webster and Chris Ibbotson didn't loose many games.
I went to Chaucer between 73/79. At school i was in 2R ect. knocked about with Mark Tarling,Steven Homer,Mark webster and Chris Ibbotson. Anybody remember Andrea hogg,Karen helliwell, Jackie French, Judy spooner, lynne Goodison or Grace Livingstone.

I left Chaucer in 1996, i was in Miss Dinsdales class, the art teacher. The school residential was a laugh, brings back some memories and it was very very cold and smelly those rooms lol

Just been to Zena's engagement do and saw Natalie Wilson-Leary (she lives in Birmingham now). Yeah, can't believe how long it's been since school.....the good ol' days, eh? Hope you are all well bye the way :)
danielland20 17-12-2006, 17:50 i left Chaucer last year and Mr Crowe is still there. I remember he was crying at our prom and pretty drunk!!
I miss it there...:(
hello john ramsden was u in mr wilds class with chris coy and friends
stalfithrild 03-01-2007, 01:04 Ahhh... the memories
Was at Chaucer 1997 while 2002, absolutely appalled by the new "Business Technology College" look of the place, I far prefer the leaky Halifax Site. Reminded of so many old teachers reading all this, but gutted to think Crowey isnt there anymore.
I was in Ms Leatherbarrow's form for the first 3 years before she left, and for the life of me cant remember the name of the teacher who took over. I was the horribly opinionated Bebbington, and looking back I was lucky not to have 7 shades beaten out of me more often. Good times....
Anyone remember Mr Dower, evil!
Oh yes:).

List Of Ceos Of Ford Motor Company History (http://www.ford-wiki.com/wiki/List_of_CEOs_of_Ford_Motor_Company)
smileyjiver 03-01-2007, 22:10 Just going through some old threads and came across this. I went to Chaucer between 64 - 68 and prior to that Meynell Road.
The people I used to knock around with were Sue Bentley, Julie Elliott, Beverley Batty, Hazel Betts (who I still stay in touch with). The others I remember are Rita Ransom, Rita Rhodes, Margaret McDonald, Dilys Gannon, Linda France who married John Hudson (they were headgirl and headboy when I was at school), John Bryer.
I remember Mr Fleming although I never had him for a teacher - thank goodness! The other teachers I remember are Mr Hoyland (History I think - believe he married the PE teacher - Miss Robinson). Mr Newham, Mr Plant (think he might have been the Head and came from Meynell Road School). Miss Searle. These are the only ones who spring to mind.
It has certainly been a trip down memory lane reading all the threads. I went to Chaucer in later years to do an evening class and was quite saddened as to how it had gone down hill. I presume that it must be in quite a bad shape now unless they have spent some money on it.
I remember the 6th form block - although I never went in it as I left before the 6th year.
Does anyone from that era remember the "cross country running" we used to do round the "block" of the school. Don't suppose they would allow that these days.
Also, when we had cookery lessons it was often left to pupils to go down to the local shop and buy all the ingedrients. I remember on one occasion going to collect a box full of goods with another girl and we were absolutely frozen when we got back - practically fainting with the cold and the weight of the box. The teachers were wondering where we had got to as it took us so long to carry it back! What memories.
And those bottles of milk!! Well what can be said about those - warm milk at breaktime - yuk!
Hope there are other people out there who remember some of the names I have mentioned. Would be lovely to hear from them.
cornthwaite 03-01-2007, 22:18 I remember Mr Fleming
fredsredhat 05-01-2007, 18:54 My maiden name is Tracey Rowbotham, have a lil girl that's mad about Barbie - hence the name....
There was Jared, Dean and Michael in our class. All the girls knew them! Also, Derrick Walford, Welsey Lynch an all them peeps. Just found this site and it's great!!!
i left in 96 and dont recognise any of those names. was in mrs harvey's class. Remember Mr Palmer for science and Mr seal for english. was in many same classes as Freyas mum (lisa) Remember Mr crowe for maths and mr raine for music (is he actually gay? that was the rumour that was doing the rounds) Nick Wright.
teffey_2003 06-01-2007, 18:43 mr raine - is he actually gay? that was the rumour that was doing the rounds.
Yes, I can say that for definite, because I know someone who had a massive crush on him, it got a bit out of hand, and she got told from another teacher (think it was Mrs Watson that told her) that he was gay.
I used to hate his music lessons. His room smelt like gone off macaroni cheese to me.
teffey_2003 06-01-2007, 18:46 Mrs.Bickerstaff scary as hell when mad
I hated that woman with a vengence, scared me as well. Always wanted to shout Thunder Thighs when ever I saw her, never did though, because of her temper.
barbiegirl80 01-02-2007, 10:57 Mr Raine! What a weird bloke..... Yes, his room did smell rather fusty! I remember him tellin me off all the time for wrappin up the wires to the keyboards wrong...What a bizzarre little man!
yummyyumyum 01-02-2007, 11:01 dont get me started with mr raine....he had a real problem with me, i remember him standing in front of me with his drum stick and banging it soooo hard on the table just mm from my hand...barstool!
because he had a problem with me, he carriewd it on with my youger brothers who were really well behaved pupils. hes an absolute :loopy:
muddycoffee 01-02-2007, 11:16 I was at chaucer when mr raine first arrived appx. 1983 or 4, to replace mr goodier, who was a brilliant music teacher and a top bloke, who he could never have matched.
The reason the room smelled fusty was nothing to do with mr raine's personal hygene. I think it was to do with the fact that some of us misbehaving musiscians who used to spend time in the music centre, filled the pianos with bits of sandwiches at lunchtimes so they would go off and smell nasty!
Mr raine got off to a bit of a bad start because he was quite young and wasn't very good at handling mishchief from lower school pupils who didn't want to be bothered with music. In a small group of older pupils, like us doing O level music in 4th and 5th year, he was a good teacher and knew his stuff, and at times quite funny.
barbiegirl80 01-02-2007, 11:32 Still and odd little geezer tho, wasnt he?
He He!
(Mr Raine, if you're readin this, it was all eeeeevil Barbie's fault :))
My brothers went to Chaucer, probably late 50s early 60s
Garry & David Southwell
We then moved to Foxhill so I went to Yewlands
parkwooder 28-02-2007, 15:05 I remember Mr Fleming
I remember Mr Flemming, I got 3 of the best for sloping my writing the wrong way. He insisted on italics. And if anyone forgot thier pen, we used to have to ask him a question on gardening in an English lesson, and that used to do the trick. What a teacher he was. I was there 1963-1967.

sugarflump02 27-09-2007, 12:05 I was in Mr. cubberley's class (1994-1999) although we had at least 2 or 3 form tutors before that. At one point ( I think it was Mr.Dearling or something) took ill and we had his wife take over. I can't even really remember who was in my class. I think there was kim booker, frankie mccauslin, clair darnell, just as few of the names I remember from my class. I agree with all of you that Mr.crowe was the best teacher there (he let us watch kingpin when he covered our french lesson) and I still see him as I went to the same panto organisation as him from the start of year 10 and he's now a friend of the family so I will have to tell him that you all think he's great lol. yes,i remember dower,we used to call him napoleon, although not to his face,he always reminded me of a character in the anthill mob(cartoon characters in the 70,s cartoon wakky racers). i was there in the 70,s,bullied by the ****** wells. when i left in 76 i made it my goal to go back every sports day to goad wellsy, try to get him to do it now i could fight back,he wouldnt wear it,so in 1994, i finally called it a day, thats the effect that arsehole had, nearly 20 years of trying to smash his face in..... if only craig hepworth had connected with the brick he threw at his head behind the fine fare in 73.

Suto was still there when I left in '79, I think Dower was long gone by then.
Wells was a psycho & a bully - cant stand the bloke - I left the 6th form when he became head of it.
I remember 'Cliff' Walker too so the nickname must have caught on!
There were certainly some characters amongst the teachers, I used to think Mr Farms & Noddy (Mr Darmon) were ok.
Miss Webb, Ms Wallbank & Mrs Adams were all cuties.

Dearling was ok, quiet with a sarcastic side to him that I liked.
Mr Pearson was a top bloke too - great sense of humour. He was a bit of a drinker though, I think thats what ended up killing him from what I've heard.
Only vague memories of the Lower Building, I remember there was a cute German/French teacher who left around '77, but her name escapes me. Also, Mr Outram who taught Maths, Miss White - English, Bainbridge - French, Palmer - Chemistry, Senior - Art.
They were all ok, it was just Wells that was a b*****.
I know Mr Thompson (Economics) became head of Parson X college, and Mr Hardy (P.E) taught there with him.

WednesdayMad 06-11-2007, 22:54 Chaucer 91-94. First day the day after Wednesdays Rumbelows Cup victory, April 1991. Unfortunately I wasnt old enough to be hammered.
Mr. Raine (Music) is insane.
Remember Crowe, Dalton/Watson prime minister woman, Wells (reminded me of Mr. Bronson in Grange Hill 'You Boy!'), TB Boreham, the old science teacher with the moustache that looked like Ken Bates.
Seal for English - Wednesdayite.
Crane in Maths. Sharples for woodwork? Bell - to this day I have no idea what he taught. Same goes for Mr. Richardson who later became head of Myers Grove. What role did he have?
Radford for Deutsch. Miserable Glover for Humanities along with Phileas Fogg.
Sellars for drama.
Is there any steamy gossip/affairs amongst staff that can be divulged? There were loads of rumours that lesbianism was rife amongst the female members of staff.
okismoki 07-11-2007, 15:52 i heard bickerstaff tried it on with a young lass, but cant confirm its true, although miss bower had a fling with gary jenkinson in the 70,s,as did mr matthews with a female pupil, same era, 70,s. i also know wells had regular sex with his right hand!!!

Ah some of these names ring a bell.

Mr Sharples for Woodwork
Mr Seal for English
Mr Craine - Maths
Mrs Radford - but for French
Had Mr Cubberley / Ms Good for German
Also had the pleasure of Mr Glover and Mr Fogg for Geography
I was in Mr. cubberley's class (1994-1999).
I remember him. He was my German teacher for 2 years. Not many people liked him, but he was always alright with me.
Jabberwocky 15-11-2007, 14:36 Anyone remember Mr Waterhouse the metalwork teacher? He used to start the lesson off by giving me 5 lines "I will not mess around in the lesson" and as the lesson progressed and I messed around more, hed say `Jackson, take a line`
On a bad day Id go home with four or five hundred lines to write out.
Annetteb1978 15-11-2007, 18:18 I left chaucer in 93/94, was in Mrs Peters form class, had Mr Bainbridge for german, Mrs Stocker for D.T, Mrs Harvey for science (we used to call her tree trunk legs) nice smile lol, Mr Crowe and Mrs Sellers were tops and Mr Wells was kinda flirty. Lost touch with my old mates...Kathy Brunt, Sarah Compton, Sarah Readman, Lindsey Ball, Claire Ashmore, Dawn Lake, Lisa Rowland and loads more. Was in same year as Westley Holland, Julian Yates, Neil Turner, Lisa Young, Stacey Roe, Lee Fletcher, Gavin Wilkins, Jii. Chaucer was WICKED back then :)

Jabberwocky 16-11-2007, 10:44 Is anyone old enough to remember Mr Knight? The demon woodwork teacher who used to insist we stood around him in a three sides of a square as he demonstrated something to us.
He`d check that the square was perfect, and all the kids who were slightly out of line got a rap around the noggin with a lump of wood.
He caught me demonstrating to my mates how to make fire by rubbing a bit of dowelling on a flat piece of wood. My mates suddenly went all quiet and I looked around to see him standing there glaring at me, I thought I was going to die, but he took the dowelling off me and showed us how to make a bow so it would make the dowelling turn faster and make a spark.
He could be a nasty bugger but at times he showed he was a human and could have a laugh.

Was there any inter-staff relationships or fist fights?
barbiegirl80 19-11-2007, 12:24 Don't know about inter-staff, but Mr Palmer once slammed our science room do so hard that the glass shattered!! That was well funny!" (and dangerous :suspect:)

He scared the crap out of me did Fleming. He caught me giving my mate cow bites in the corridor on my very first day there and dragged me into his classroom in the terrapin huts to give me the cane in front of his class.
He waffled on at me for half an hour then punched the desk, almost splitting it in two.
I was shaking so much I think he took pity on me and let me go without caning me.

I was at Chaucer between 64 - 68 and remember being absolutely terrified of Fleming. Never had him for a teacher but he only had to walk into a room to put the fear of god in you. He may well have been a bully and brute but at least school kids knew where they stood in those days. If you misbehaved (and even if you didn't) if you got on the wrong side of him then you would know about it.:(
I still think the very worst thing I ever saw him do was give a lad 'six of the best' for having the 'audacity' to ask for second helpings of school dinners on the first sitting :loopy: - now wasn't asking for second helpings of school dinners a punishment in itself.
I don't know how the lad was afterwards but what I do know is that I am now in my 50's and that image has always stayed in my memory - so should I sue for traumatic stress disorder??:hihi::hihi:

i remember being lined up,kes-like,in front of hardy,to give our excuses for not doing games, this was a regular occurence for people like me,robert gordon, shaun webster & a few others,he would walk down the line going"same old faces, same old excuses, another year, another lame set of excuses",then bellow"WELL?" Then either push ,pull or clip you ,before sending you on the field picking up paper,or some other menial punishment.
This particular day,the line was a lot longer than usual, you could see the fury on his face as he made his way down the line ,listening to each feeble excuse,push,clip,glare,pull,shove,slap....my turn"WEEELLLL?" his face was now purple, all i could think of was"Its like you say sir, just cant be bothered" SILENCE,apart from the sharp intake of breath from the lads who were part of the football team, then a few sniggers for what they believed was about to befall me,the smallest kid there......Hardy surprised EVERYONE by smirking, saying "Well,at least YOU are honest, now get out, dont bother turning up to my lesson any more", i didn,t need twice telling, scuttling off to wag it on lytton fields every games lesson until i left in 76.
Jabberwocky 11-03-2008, 21:33 Anyone remember hardy yelling for the Sick lame and lazy..? :D

do you remember mr. pearson? another sports teacher, looked like joe bugner, and the unfortunately named seaman.
i remember being in a class where they showed a sex education video, seaman and collinson took the class that day,it was the only time i saw collinson smile, the SEMEN word came up,much to the hilarity of all concerned, after the laughter died down, collinson, with impeccable comic timing, said" different spelling im afraid, boys", which resulted in yet more giggles from all except poor old seaman.
Jabberwocky 11-03-2008, 21:45 Yeah I remember Pearson and Seaman!
I remember Collinson too, he was obsessed with turds :D
