So I have a gmail account, but lately I seem to be having problems accessing it, I've tried going through Google Talk and Gmail.com but all that happens is that the site just keeps refreshing all the time and not logging in.

I've tried deleting cookies, as that was suggested as a fix for the log in problems on here as well, but it hasn't made any difference.

Anyone know what's wrong?

PS if anyone wants a gmail invite, PM me your email address or just email sfrich at gmail.com (replace at with @ sign)

Same here!

I did log in to G Mail the other day, and had no problems with it.

btw, the cookie-clearing exercise isn't working on SF at the moment.

How do you set up gmail in Outlook Express?
it tells you on the gmail site how to do it, but if your having problems getting into gmail that wont help lol

heres how

Open Outlook or Outlook Express.
Click the 'Tools' menu, and select 'Accounts...'
Click 'Add,' and then click 'Mail...'
Enter your name in the 'Display name:' field, and click 'Next.'
Enter your full Gmail email address (username@gmail.com) in the 'Email address:' field, and click 'Next.'
Enter 'pop.gmail.com' in the 'Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server:' field. Enter 'smtp.gmail.com' in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:' field.
Click 'Next.'
Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') in the 'Account name:' field. Enter your Gmail password in the 'Password:' field, and click 'Next.'
Click 'Finish.'
Highlight 'pop.gmail.com' under 'Account,' and click 'Properties.'
Click the 'Advanced' tab.
Check the box next to 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)' under 'Outgoing Mail (SMTP).'
Enter '465' in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP):' field.
Check the box next to 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)' under 'Incoming mail (POP3).' The port will change to 995.
*The order of 'Outgoing' and 'Incoming' mail server fields varies by version. Make sure you enter the correct information in each field.
Click the 'Servers' tab, and check the box next to 'My server requires authentication.'
Click 'OK.'

Congratulations! You're done configuring your client to send and retrieve Gmail messages.

This is for Outlook (had OE removed).

Same settings, though.

I tried the above and all I got was some error about proxies...

Good job I don't use my gmail account for anything really important other than spam catching.

Edit:

Anyone know what this is all about?

The server responded with an error. Account: 'mail.google.com', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

You haven't changed the ports - Gmail do not use 25 and 110 - they use 995 and 465. :)

OK I changed teh ports... Now I get this.

A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: 'mail.google.com', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

  This is annoying.

Incoming is 995, with SSL ticked, and outgoing is 465 with SSL ticked.

:)

P.S: Have you switched POP abilities on at G-Mail's end?

Ah - when G-Mail's site kicks-in, switch POP on.

Although, that defeats the object of having it through OE/L
