DVD's in their raw format would take an age to upload from a standard pc. At the very least you will need to zip or rar it first. Most internet connections are VERY SLOW uploading even if you have 2mb you will only have about 256k upload. What exactly are you wanting to do ? Can you not just run the file from its existing location via a remote pc ?. ANGELUS 18-02-2006, 19:33 Depends on what kind of DVD it is. If its a homemovie- you would need to split it into a few parts first depending on the movie's size ie: if its over 800mb then it will need splitting. You could use a internet site such as www.sendspace.com which is quite good for hosting the file you upload to it- all you need to do then is keep the link to the file you have uploaded to the internet. Easy as that :hihi: If its an actual movie from a shop- dont do it- its illegal! Not that I think you would do this of course. wendygs 18-02-2006, 19:57 Depends on what kind of DVD it is. Someone I know is a film producer and from what I've been able to gather I think they want to upload some samples of their stuff on to the net without it being ripped off. melthebell 18-02-2006, 20:07 youd have to rip it to the computer and encode it as wmv, avi, rm, or mpg etc, then upload those wendygs 18-02-2006, 20:38 Mel, I dont know anything about this. Will that make it upload quicker? melthebell 18-02-2006, 21:21 Mel, I dont know anything about this. Will that make it upload quicker? well to physically get the content off a dvd onto the computer youd have to rip it really, you could go into the video ts folder and copy and paste the file but itll be massive, prolly 4gb for a full film if you rip it the raw files would be massive, again possibly 3/4gb if you encode then its gonna be anywhere up.......to 1 gb maybe maybe even 700mb wendygs 18-02-2006, 22:17 What do you mean by rip it? floyd77 18-02-2006, 23:20 To rip is to take the data off the dvd and put it on your hard drive - from there you can mess about with it If youre not wanting to load a whole film you could use some editing software to make some smaller sized clips? matsalleh 19-02-2006, 08:21 You're absolutely dead right. I think you are being optimistic here,it would be seen as a challenge. melthebell 19-02-2006, 09:28 What do you mean by rip it? you use a ripping program, i use no1 dvd ripper, which rips files from the dvd to the computer then you can use an encoder to encode the files into 1 file that you can use on the computer, do stuff with the raw ripped vob files are a bit large and unwieldy and you cant do that much with em till theyre encoded sccsux 19-02-2006, 09:44 I think you are being optimistic here,it would be seen as a challenge. Rip the movie data to a HD. Convert to Flash (whilst halving the resolution). Rich 19-02-2006, 11:51 Um, you lot are aware that sharing DVD movies on P2P networks is illegal right? Also, even talking about P2P and file sharing on here is against the rules :nono: melthebell 19-02-2006, 11:58 Um, you lot are aware that sharing DVD movies on P2P networks is illegal right? Also, even talking about P2P and file sharing on here is against the rules :nono: nobodys mentioned anything about copyrighted or illegal files not everythings illegal you know :) sccsux 19-02-2006, 12:35 Someone I know is a film producer and from what I've been able to gather I think they want to upload some samples of their stuff on to the net without it being ripped off. One of my hobby horses about people posting or writing letters for that matter without bothering to read the stuff they're replying to and then making loads of assumptions. To be explicit about "not being ripped off" I mean that some git doesnt come along and make illegal copies of their copyrighted material. Hope that's sufficiently clear. :D Also thanks to everyone for such helpful replies. If there's anything else to consider please continue posting so I can cobble this together in to a meaningful set of instructions for them. In anticipation of queries, I aint giving them SF details. melthebell 19-02-2006, 19:14 i dunno what you mean by not ripping off everything on the web can be "ripped off" with the right software, expertise, knowledge and fiddling about :P if its only a sample of the dvd then it doesnt matter if he makes it into a small flash file then it matters less my mate up here did this http://www.pancrack.tv/ theres only a trailer of the dvd online, but he sells em by the bucketload and i aint come across the full thing for download anywhere yet either......but maybe its too local, lol that reminds me i still need to buy a copy...........signed of course :) wendygs 19-02-2006, 21:08 Very impressive. I'll definitely pass that link on to him. I think it's more likely to be a short demo's like your mates. sccsux 19-02-2006, 21:30 if he makes it into a small flash file then it matters less I used TurbineVideoEncoder (http://www.blue-pacific.com/products/turbinevideo/default.htm) to convert a 5 min (45Meg - captured from VHS) Rhubard & Custard cartoon into a flash movie of just over 4M (halved the frame rate though:() as an experiment. |
