View Full Version : Blue bin date change?

Now I'm lost - I have no idea when our blue bins are supposed to get emptied.
The nice woman on the other end of the phone says it's still Tuesdays...exactly the date specified on the nice sticker, which is in the house so that I can check it. She is insistent that the dates have not changed and that our bins are collected when the sticker says...but they aren't.
The rather grumpy blue-bin men who now collect it on Wednesdays (or whatever other day of the week they please) just grunt when questioned and maintain that whatever day they pick it up is the right day - which is true, in a really quite unhelpful way.
Anyone else having this problem?

Cosy:confused:

Wheelie Bin Collections

Wheelie Bin Collections (Grey Bins)

The grey household waste wheeled bin is collected every week.

The bin should be presented at the kerbside for collection by 7.00am.

A full refuse collection service will be made on bank holidays with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day, full arrangements will be publicised at the time.

If you are new to the area or you are not sure what day your bin is usually collected, please call the Sheffield Call Centre help line on (0114) 273 4567 and pressing 1 when requested. This will forward you to the Onyx Call Centre where all queries relating to bin collections can be made.

Blue Bin Collections

The Blue paper & card wheeled bin is collected once every four weeks.

Calendars were issued with the bin initially to inform you of your future collection dates. Any updates will be issued as required to inform you of your collection days. There is a special Blue Bin telephone help-line which is 0845 355 5515.

HA! That's a laugh. We have to put our bins (not blue) out the night before because they empty them at about 6am!

Just phoned the help line and was assured that new calendars will be posted before the next collections.

I often miss living in Crookes where it was around 10am and if you forgot the night before you could put them out on the way to work. Sometimes they can be too efficient.

Why don't we get Onyx to deliver mail? :)

Given that half (or more) of it ends up in the bin anyway, it'd cut out the middleman...

Thanks ever so, darling.
No offence, but it isn't the party line I'm after. Or indeed detailed instructions on how to deal with my other bin (seeing as it and I have coped fine for several years now despite any mental deficiencies on my part) It's knowing when my blue bins are supposed to be collected
...not because I can't read the nice big calendar posted on it, but because the binmen clearly can't.
As mentioned, I phoned the helpful help desk before putting my little niggle on here. Their absolute faith in the dates being correct, and the collections being correct, was endearing but misguided.

Someone has since suggested that the collection trucks have a quota to fill, after which they go home, finished with their rounds or not. Anyone know if this is true?

Sorry if the sarcasm dripped on anyone. No offence, qazitory, but I get a little grotty when I recieve council instructions on general bin ritual, when they are the ones who need to read and memorise their own annoying instructions.

Cosy;)

Fletch you should see the size of ours if you think your bins aren't big enough. We have a blue bag collected fortnightly but only the size of a Morrisons carrier bag. Now that is ridiculously small.

Umm, it's for recycling paper and cardboard. They may be starter homes in London but not in Sheffield. I'd report your parents if I were you for telling you they'd found you a place of your own.
