Good one mark :D

I was going to post something along the lines of moving this thread to the Sheffield related forum... but you've upstaged me.

Meh, do I love GTA: VC?! Nope, IMO the GTA franchise is over-rated, but loved up by the Sony zealots just like every other franchise of their precious PS2.

Not even custom soundtracks on the Xbox version redeemed it in my opinion.

Hey! I like it! It's the only PS2 game I play (it's also the only one I have...;) )

Great graphics, soundtracks, action, fast cars... blood, weapons, violence...

I prefer Vice City over the original because the cars are more realistic - Ferrari Testarossas, Lamborghini Countaches, Corvettes...and military tanks :D

There's lots of variety in the gameplay too. Want to fulfil your lifes ambition of being a cab driver? Go for it. Or nick a Police car, become a vigilante and tax some crims! Feeling anarchistic? Pickup some weapons, enter the Police Station and do an 'Arnie'

Of course, you could play the game the way it's meant to be played...completing the missions and becoming a top criminal, but that would take forever.

It's a great way to relax after a long week. What more do you want from a game, Rich?

Don't forget it took 5 gongs at the Bafta games awards, so obviously I am not alone in my opinion of the product!

Sony zealot? Me?

Realistic, except that the 'Countach' doors open incorrectly... ;)
It's fun when you get hold of the 'Apache' helicopter and do the Vigilante missions in that! Cool as!

Yeah, it is the best game on the PS2 and I cant wait for GTA: San Andreas to come out. Bouncing up and down those San Francisco streets - I cant wait. Hope they put Mustangs and Chargers in there!

I dont play any other computer games, but I love GTA.

Do you have a cheat for the helicopter? I'd love that!

Let's hope they don't throw in any earthquakes...

I've given up helping the Police by beating up an escaped convict. All my offers of help would get me was a beating off the officer and the inevitable arrest

What I do instead is moonlight as a cab driver. If the passenger doesn't pay up because I miss the time limit, I'll usually take their heads off with the sniper rifle

Unfortunately, I think you have to complete all the missions in the game before the helicopter appears.

If you have played it through to the end of the missions, get a police uniform from the Police Station locker room and then you can enter the Fort Baxter airforce base without fear of all the soldiers killing you.

The helicopter is sat in the rearmost compound of the base, against the back wall.

Alternatively, just grab another chopper and quickly set it down in the compound. You'll need to be out of there pretty quick though cos the Army guys'll appear and shoot you and anything you're in. :(

If you've not completed all the missions properly, I dont think there is any way to make the helicopter appear. Shame I suppose, but a pay off for the people who do play it properly! :)

I think the San Andreas setting is a really cool idea. They've done New York, Miami and now San Francisco.

The next game should take place in Las Vegas I reckon - it'd make a really cool setting, and could spawn loads of ace characters (I'm thinking Elliot Gould in Oceans Eleven...)

Plus, you could grab a few casino security guys and a few Vegas call girls and drive them out into the desert and set to work on em with a chainsaw...

You can get it by cheating ;)

I love this game. Simply great. Personally I'm a big fan of the vigilante missions - nick an FBI car and watch it fly!!

You didn't mention the format, but the cheats for the xbox version are HERE (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox/code/468550.html)

Happy hunting!

No cheats for the helicopter, Agent Dan.

I'll just have to stick to the combination of tank and sniper rifle :(

You get the Apache by getting 100 packages. It will be then on a helipad on the bottom of the first island.

Can't wait til 22nd October!!!!

Probs the best game I've got, but there aren't enough missions - I've already completed it about 3 times and I rarely play it any more cos there's nothing much else to do besides cane the police by flying a helicopter onto a roof and sniping cops on the ground. They have no chance of getting at you cos you can just take out any copters they throw at you with ease. Another funny thing is to pick up a whore, take her somewhere quiet, collect the health, then mow her down and get your money back! Fave mission - probs the last film studios mission with the motorbike jumping over and across buildings etc. Top quality. What does everyone else reckon?

I am now getting fed up of this game

It's difficult enough on the earlier levels (with plenty of cheats for health, weapons, armour and lowering the wanted level) but now I've really hit a brick wall.

The later missions are unforgiving - Checkpoint Charlie for instance, speeding to collect the packages within a very short time limit and Demolition Man & Bombs Away - piloting a radio controlled plane / helicopter is difficult enough even before you're being shot at.

How on earth do you all manage to complete the game? Even the cheats to slow down time don't help

I recently purchased Splinter Cell too  if that game moved any slower, it would probably go back in time...

Haha, I remember Checkpoint Charlie, it took me absolutely ages!
And the RC helicopter piloting through the building is really hard!
Those two are really difficult ones though!

Keep on playing, you'll do em soon - the missions get really interesting later on in the game as the story comes together!

The only time I managed to complete Checkpoint Charlie was to switch the view to in front of the boat (the behind views are appalling in that scenario). I also had to use the cheat to slow down time, and I still only made it with a couple of seconds to spare. And that was my best attempt from several.

I then saved my game, switched off the PS2 and came back to it the next day...it hadn't saved my game

Stupid $ony PS2

I'll have to stop playing...my blood pressure rises too much, and I'm really only playing it to get the Apache

And I only managed to get this far because my brother beat the Demolition Man level for me - the one with the RC helicopter.

go to www.gamefaqs.com . Last time I looked there was a map on there showing the location of all 100 packages.

Thanks qazi

It will take ages to collect the 100 packages ...but it's still quicker than completing the game.

I'll report back when I've finally got the Apache (http://www.gtanetwork.it/gtavicecity/screens/Un_Apache_Robysub.JPG) !

80 packages found, just 20 to go ... all of which are in and around the Air Force base

I expect to be blown out of the sky several times before I get there :D

I hope the save game feature works this time.

try and use a helicoper to get in there.

Abdul

I'm just learnt (to my cost) that if you use any of the cheats in the game, it interferes with the hidden packagse.

So I must start again...without cheating

Well, I finally got hold of the Hunter helicopter gunship by finding all 100 hidden packages, and Yes, it was worth waiting for!

The weapons are awesome, but she's a bit of a big bird, and trying to navigate her down the narrow streets of Vice City to tax a criminal is tricky, especially when you've got palm trees and telephone poles to negotiate.

Of course, the best part of having the Hunter is the ability to shoot down the Police helicopter in a midair dogfight :D

I had completed just enough missions to unlock the second island (all of Avery's, most of Diaz and Cortez's, none of the Malibu missions).

My first attempt to pick up the Hunter failed even before I took off when the soldiers shot me to bits (I forgot to nick the Police outfit first). And thank you all for the tips on using the helicopter instead of a car as an escape vehicle (which I did as part of the Cop Land mission). I must say, I was quite concerned when the other Police helicopter gave chase, but I managed to outrun it before crash landing on the lawn of the Vercetti mansion.

Now, I've made more progress since, and I've gotten as far as the biker missions. On the 'Messing with the Man' mission I managed to fill the Chaos Meter easily enough (shooting the local Police force with RPGs), but the six-star wanted level didn't clear when the mission was completed (maybe because I shot down another Police helicopter after the mission finished), so I got flattened by the military tank.

Does anyone have tips for this level? Where to go, what to do and use?

Many thanks
