I've just returned from Asia where I've been for three months.

In Bangkok I met this guy who was really hospitable and invited me on the party circuit with all his high flying 'hi so' Thai friends. Basically, I didn't have to spend a penny all through Christmas and New Year - this guy laid everything on, food, drinks, women, etc.

He's a dollar millionaire and there's nothing much I can get him that'll impress him. He lives in a Sukhumvit mansion and has about 10 servants.

But he DID mention that during a stint as a student at Birmingham Polytechnic during the 1970s, the Dave Allen show used to crease him up. He said that he's never seen any sign of them turning up on cable or DVD in Bangkok.

I notice that by an incredible piece of luck, they're re - running the old shows on BBC2 from tonight, and I'm going to record them all for him and send them by mail.

Is there any way I can transfer a Video tape of this onto a DVD ? It'll be a lot cheaper to mail one of those than a Video tape, and it'll also look better.

Do you have a SCART connection on your VCR? If so I think you can plug it into your PC and download the video to your PC then burn it with something like Nero or even edit it if you have teh right software such as Adobe Premier, MGI Videowave et al.

All of which you can download 30 day trial versions of from their respective web sites, Google will know where they are.

you need to install a video in card and the software to transfer video to your pc
me on the other hand bought a dvd recorder to stand under the tv instead :)
then i can copy something ive recorded from dvd to dvd or rip it on the computer and rencode to avi or mpg etc

a lot easier
