my mum and her b/f are getting broadband but it as a 1g download limit, so with them not knowing anything about broadband they might go over the limit.............so does anybody know where i can download a checker to keep a eye on how much is downloaded

I am very happy with NetMeter (http://readerror.gmxhome.de/).

It keeps track and provides summaries.
You can also set your limit and it will throw up an indicator if it thinks you will exceed it "at the current rate".

Edit: For just surfing, 1Gb is manageable, but if you move any pictures & documents around you will get close and if you want to download music or movies it is nowhere near enough.
