Can anyone think a nice/concise way to say "negative tripling" i.e. £30 shrinking to £10?

Yes, it's called INFLATION

I have seen reference to "halving, thirding & quartering".

I don't have an OED to hand to verify the acceptability of "thirding" though.
The online dictionaries don't appear to like it!
