View Full Version : The Forum keeps logging me off !
zoboz111 17-02-2006, 15:31 i keep getting logged off SF. All day its been happening, and when i sign back in i keep ticking the remember me box, so why is this happening?:help:
A couple of other people have said its happened to them to.
I had all sorts of problems posting the SF badge poll; I was logged out about five times. Every time I tried to edit my post, it logged me off.
I guess it's to do with the software glitches JoeP mentioned earlier.
the_rudeboy 17-02-2006, 15:35 Been happening here too. Only today, never happened before.
slimsid2000 17-02-2006, 15:37 Me too. Are they trying to tell me something?:hihi:
Me too, I'm sure it'll get sorted in time.
I eventually noticed this morning this morning, after I'd been logged off so many times I was going to throw something at the pc, and after I had used the Contact Us button, that I was being logged off at, what seemed to be, 15 minute intervals, which I also reported.
On many other forums, you are given the option of logging off after a certain amount of time, e.g. 15 minutes, 6 hours, or never, but we don't seem to have that option on SF. I'm wondering whether there is an option in the Admin Panel, and it has somehow reset itself to 15 minutes.
I've been offline for most of the afternoon and, when I shut down my pc, I was still logged in to SF. I wasn't when I restarted just now.
I've been logged off today that many times I've lost count. Never happened before though.
sparklygem 17-02-2006, 17:00 Ive been getting logged off too
bjshooter 17-02-2006, 17:04 Yeah me too
Here's a funny thing. I logged on, then noticed a thread I'd like to respond to. I clicked on the reply button only to find that I wasn't logged in  .
Anyhoo, logged back in and found I had a PM and replied to that without a problem. Then I went to edit a post and noticed that the 'edit' button was missing, as was the 'quick reply' box... I'd been logged off again.
The funny thing is, my little green light was still lit.
dieselbabe 18-02-2006, 09:58 Im so glad i found this thread. Mine too has been logging off. it is ok wile i am looking at the posts, but soon as i want to reply to a thread it tells me im logged out, but least i now know im not the only one.
Rachylou 18-02-2006, 10:05 yes i didn't realise i was logged off again till i tried to reply to this post. Been happening to me all morning and had 3 attempts to start a topic.
I've just hit the contact us button again because, despite clearing my cookies and temporary internet files twice yesterday (at much inconvenience because it removed a lot of information that I use on a daily basis), I'm still being logged off.
The air is a funny colour blue around these parts:mad:
I've just been into the gubbins of Firefox and selectively deleted most of the SF cookies, and cleared my cache. I deliberately left behind the non-SF cookies, and a couple of SF cookies that didn't look like they were specifically ad-related. It seems to have worked so far. It was driving me mad a little while ago; every time I clicked on a link to navigate the site it logged me out.
It's just logged me off again, after only 30 minutes of being logged on.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr:rant:
I have posted several times this afternoon and each time I've had to log in. Anyone else had this problem and if so whats the cure.
Rachylou 18-02-2006, 16:39 Hiya
Yes there is already a thread about this problem that somebody had put on this morning' i keep having to log back in also think the forums having an off day today
I'm on okay at the mo... touch wood

There's a thread about this over in the General Chit-Chat section. It seems to be affecting quite a few people. It's driving me mad; I'm getting logged out every second click on the navigation links!
The admin people know about it and are trying to sort it out.
A temporary fix is to clear your internet cache, and clear your cookies. I don't know if internet explorer will allow you to selectively remove just the Sheffield Forum cookies (if that's the browser you use), but I know Firefox does.
Be warned though that this fix appears to be only temporary; at least it is for me. I have to do it each time I visit the Sheffield Forum web site.

It does not fix anything for me. I'm using IE and getting fed up.:)
fox20thc 18-02-2006, 18:23 It only affects me at ahem... :suspect: work

Having to log on every time I've come on today. It's ok.....I WILL not let it get me down...

Bet you do:hihi:
Coz i did when it happened to me,
I'm just glad i was in the house alone..:D
As usual I thought it was only me. But then I thought it might have been cos my internet disconnected (broadband???) after 2 hours.

It works temporarily for me; until I close down and re-enter the site late on. On which point I have to empty the cache/cookies again. I'm in Firefox.
zoboz111 18-02-2006, 21:18 i've been on an hour i think ! and its logged me off once already, got really tiered of it yesterday so came off all togeather. Is it only happing to a few people are everyone? Has the problem gone away for everyone and if not how can we get a mod to read this? they may be able to help!
It's still happening to me.....I've used the contact us button today, and have just added to my message, because I think it may have something to do with cookies.
When I login, I always tick the "Remember me" box, but it's not remembering my login details. Also, the box that I get on other sites, asking if I'd like my computer to remember my login details, isn't appearing when I log in to SF.
You could always report your own post, but it's only Geoff and Co-Admin who can sort the problem out, so it would probably be better to use the contact us button.
the_rudeboy 18-02-2006, 21:29 Its starting to really get on my nerves now.

I've had the same problem but I just re-enter my details and it works fine.... not too much hassle.... for me anyway. :D

zoboz111 19-02-2006, 10:44 Hi, my mom can't get on the forum:shocked: .
We all seemed to have suffered with the loggin out problem and unfortunalty my mom (Mistyraven) can't get back on, yesterday she was logged off then she logged back in but when she went to add a post she had to log back in again and when she did log back in she still couldn't post with out been logged out:huh: .
But as she kept trying, her password stopped working at the log in bit:confused: . She managed to get a knew one but that password won't work either:?: .
She can still read the bored's but can't post (thats like torture) or read her pm's, she called me this morning to say she was upset and having withdrawl's.
Can any body help her, she say's she's havin trouble PMing the mod's to.
PLEASE HELP !!:help: :help:
It's just logged me off again, after only 30 minutes of being logged on.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr:rant: been getting logged off all morning getting ticked off now, nothing seems to have been sorted
Have you tried using the "contact us" button?
You could report your own post, but that probably won't sort the problem.
BoroughGal 19-02-2006, 10:50 You should use the contact us button. I've reported the post so that one of the mods reads it for you.
EDIT: Ooooh Ann, snap!
Maybe they don't quite know how to fix the problem yet. New forum software and all that. :suspect: Still, it'd be nice just to get a 'we are aware of the problem and are working on it' message wouldn't it.
For the umpteenth time today, I've just had to login again but, for the first time, I got the box asking whether I wanted my computer to remember my login details.
Hopefully, this means an end to the logout problems. I'll keep you posted:)
I posted too soon.....I've been logged off three time since my above post, once while I was posting a message, and I'm not getting the box asking me if I want my computer to remember my login details anymore.
On well....back to the drawing board:huh:
Guess what.....it's not logged me off once since I posted last. My defiant attitude must have worked.
I'm still scratching my head about this one...
BoroughGal 19-02-2006, 12:32 It's doing it to me now, too.
I asked about this yesterday and it's still doing it.
Hopefully for the last time - we are trying to fix it.
For those of you who keep telling us about this day after day, I know.
I spent umpteen hours on here yesterday, and will no doubt spend umpteen hours on here today. Geoff's spent God knows how long on various issues. We're looking in to it. We're not spending our time picking fluff out of our navels and scratching our stomachs whilst lying in a hammock, a la Homer Simpson. :)
Now, the current knowledge on this issue is in this sticky.
http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=91287
So, can I ask that we all RTFS - Read The Friendly Stickie!
Grandad.Malky 19-02-2006, 12:42 Happened to me yesterday, so far, so good today.
We're not spending our time picking fluff out of our navels and scratching out stomachs whilst lying in a hammock, a la Homer Simpson. :)
Well bang goes my image of the Mods then :(
BoroughGal 19-02-2006, 12:45 I just wish they'd invent a lifted handbag "woooooooh" type smiley. I'd find loadsa uses for it.....
I guess its my turn today :?
Already logged in... go to enter a post and i've to login... :suspect:
Angel, check out the thread that I made sticky. That contains all we currently know about the problem.
:)
spyro2000 20-02-2006, 12:14 Not sure if this has been said before, but when I click on the "go to new post" arrow, it goes to the post just below the first new post in a thread.
Its only a minor, but still.

Yes, it's a vBulletin bug rather than anything we've introduced.
But we are aware of it.
Thanks,
Joe
