Has anyone had a Kitchen fitted? Do they rip the old one out for you? If the kitchen could do with replastering do you need to rip it out yourself, then plaster, then get them to install the new one???
I sort of need a new Kitchen, I would not want to fit it myself and don't want to be without a kitchen for 6 months either!
Can anyone recommend a good place to get one from?
My kitchen is not very large so nothing too expensive please.
I also want a decent cooker but don't need or have space for all the free appliances they seem to offer...
It's all very confusing!

Try fnkyskny (or something similar) who designs and fits kitchens.

I've had two kitchens (different homes) from MFI. Mid-range quality, funnily enough the small kitchen cost £2700, the larger kitchen £2300. For both i looked at around £1000 for fitting. They removed the old kitchen. I highly recommend the matching backboards that i bought as they look stylish are cost a whole lot less than tiles

I was going to recommend fnkysknky. The do supply and fit, or fit only if you like. I'm assuming they do the whole chabang, as they're quoting me for shifting a wall and radiators too.

Jody's and Richard's numbers are in their signature

I had some info from fnkysknky when I was thinking about it before but had my windows done instead. Has anyone had any work done by him??

They have a thread somewhere with loads of regular forumers singing their praises

(you know how 'search' works, so I won't teach my grandma to suck eggs ;) )

I have pestered him for some info. If anyone else has any recommendations they are most welcome. I see many offers of free appliances and free fitting and stuff on the web but have no idea if they are any good.

use google to find the horror stories from these stores.

They often use outside contractors, so just because one person has good reports doesn't mean your team will be able to meet those standards (should do, but...)

Have a shop round, understand how stiff the competition is, and negotiate ;)

PS - there's no such thing as a free lunch either - free fitting only means you're paying for it in with the units, free appliances are accounted for in a similar fashion.

I had an interview with a kitchen fitting company once, part of Everest group. Basically they work out how much you are prepared to pay for your kitchen and fill in the paperwork from there. The salesperson could afford to drop the price by around 55% and still get a profit from the sale.

Be careful out there ;)

I got my mate to fit my windows as I don't trust any of these companies, the same goes for kitchen places.. Much better to use someone local I think when possible. :D

Cheers for everyone who mentioned us - I'll send the cheques out later... just kidding :)

We offer a full service so we'll get everything done for you that you need - plastering, electrics, gas etc. We'll arrange a skip and fill it for you if required as well.

As Strix has pointed out there's no such thing as free - tradesmen don't work for free so the money must be coming from somewhere to pay the fitters which in this case will be on top of the units.

Our quotes are itemised so you'll know exactly what you're paying for each item.

Also we're happy to supply & fit, supply only or fit only :)

All I would advise is get the work done in the right order. Lost count of the number of times I have turned up on jobs to to Plaster only to find the new kitchen had been fitted.

Order should be:

Rip out

Make good walls

Fit kitchen (inc electrics/plumbing)

Tile

Hope this helps.
