Hi I was wondering if anyone has had any experience loaning their horse. I have a beautiful mare which I have on DIY livery, unfortuantly my circumstances are changing and I may have to put her on part loan, it will be as a last resort as I really really don't want to, as she is my pride and joy and I would be terrified of something happening to her or me losing that special bond.:(
Any advice/experience would be greatly appreciated
Jess,
I am looking for a horse to loan which is why your thread caught my eye. I have owned horses in the past and loaned out one of them as I found I did not have the time to exercise both when I was studying. Fortunately it was to someone I already knew and someone whom I then would hack out with so I still saw my baby!
I think loaning a horse part-time would be less of a tug on the heart strings. Your horse would very much still be yours and therefore it would be you calling the shots re who to and how you loaned her out. Prob best to have things on a trial basis at first & make sure that you get on well with the loaner.
A good idea to draw up a basic contract to which details what you expect from the other party. May be a good idea to consider insurance too. If you keep your horse on the same yard then it won't be too much of an upheaval & the other people on the yard will be around when you aren't to field any queries the loaner may have.
If you haven't found a loaner yet - drop me an email: akwicksteed@hotmail.com
