Interested in any views on the proposed Westbury housing development on the site of the King Ecgberts School off Furniss Ave in Dore. Originally expected to be built only on the footprint of the school - now covers most of the attached playing fields with up to 90 homes - is this good or bad?

Where will the children go to school - all the doctors, dentists etc in the are are full - how many more can be squeezed in and should we be worried to lose (as we surely will) the village atmosphere in Dore as it just becomes another overcrowded suburb. One of the reasons Sheffield suffers versus Leeds, Nottingham, Manchester is the lack of "suburbia" to attract the management and professionals whose companies bring in the money (which continue to support the improvements in the city).

Isn't Hallam the wealthiest constituency (in terms of per capita income) outside London, along with Tatton? That would suggest that Sheffield already does attract greater numbers of high earners than do Leeds or Nottingham. Sheffield also has a consderable commuter belt which now includes the north Peak District, Chesterfield and the Dukeries.

People follow their companies rather than the companies following them (if only!).

The schools in Dore will grow and people will have to find dentists and doctors elsewhere. I live in humble Heeley but my dentist is in Ecclesall and my doctor in Sharrow.
