Just been out to the "only off licence in the Village" and went to use the hole in the wall machine only to find just that...."a hole in the wall."

Apparently in the early hours of this morning some thieves tied a chain to it and fastened it to their tow-bar. As they roared off with the machine in tow it must have bounced around ( you can see the marks on the road.)

It seems the machine in tow wrapped itself around a lamp post.... well I'll leave the rest to the imagination.... all three are now in Hospital. hahahahahahaha!

So there is some justice in the world. :hihi:

If they find the culprits, will they be fined £1.75 for the withdrawal?

Something similar happened in Crosby not long ago. Someone casually drove a JCB into the local Barclays and removed the cash machine at 5am. Somehow, no one noticed a JCB being driven through the town, into the pedestrianised village centre and into the bank. The mind boggles. You've got to admire the nerve of them.

It used to be a favorite down south years ago , The scallies used to rob a JCB loadall from a fram or building site and hoon it into a cashpoint then loading it on to a flat bed, The JCB would be left there and the ne'erdowells would make good their escape by means of said flatbed.

Used to be a regular occourance before firms got wise to it.

My borther informed me (he works for Barclays) that the cash machines have a dye release security system that will spoil the cash if the machine is tampered with. So the chances are that they managed to get 250k of useless money. Wounder! :D

I remember that Andy.... but if I'm right you access where the Barclays is through the main car park at the rear of the shopping centre and the cashpoint is just up a side entrance and very open.... stopped there a few times to draw cash.... nothing much has changed since your 7yrs away mate and the Formby by-pass has still got the same road works on it.... Formby itself is still boring and Southport is undergoing good regeneration.... lots more there now the front has been built on. ( used to live there for 10yrs).... glad I'm back on the wirral.... do you know Oxton?.... I live by the Caernarfon Castle.

I can't believe so many people are delighted that the bank's money was saved when they're are robbing us all blind day in day out, not to mention their financing just about every dodgy activity I can think of.

If Robin Hood was around today, most people would be for the Sherriff of Nottingham. If it was an armed robbery I could understand the sentiment, as people were being threatened. What times we live in. Hurrah for the banks. :gag: long may they profit from our labour:rant:

Hi Jake,

The Barclay's in the village has cash points on the front of it now. Not sure if you might mean where Barclays used to be? It moved accross the road to new premises a few years back. It's the one with the glass front, which is where they drove the JCB through.

Hang on, I've just read the link I posted and realise that it's not the right one. That refers to a smash on a Sainsburys cash machine that was linked to the one on Barclays. Try this one:

I'm not sure if I've been to Oxton or not, I think that I had friends who used to live there, but my memory's not great.

I still get back to the Pool quite a lot as still have friends and family there. As much as I love Sheffield, I really miss the sea. I grew up living on Crosby beach (well in a house on the beach, not actually on the beach). Used to see the most amazing sunsets nearly every night.

Hiya Andy

There's been a few cashpoint raids.... and if the location has moved that is quite possible.... its been 3yrs since I was a regular.... you are right about the sunsets.... My ex used to work as an RGN in one of the nursing homes there and I used to pick her up early on many an occassion.... I lived on the Promenade in Southport and got a good glimpse, however I am on a high peak on the Wirral now, near Bidston Hill and I still get some good nights.... especially in the summer. The Bidston Hill observatory is just down the road from me although I don't think its in use any more, but the location is good.

Dunno if that joggs your memory.... anyway take care. Jake.

£250,000 :wow:

I though those machines only held about £10,000!

I expect people are more delighted that the robbers got their comeuppance, rather than the bank didn't lose any money...

I've been told that it would have been pretty full because it had just been filled up on christmas eve. Yeah they hold 250k apparently.

Jake, yeah I know Bidston hill. Haven't been that way since I was a kid though. I'm sure you get some great views. :)
