View Full Version : Changed ISP, lose old email????
I've just changed from wanadoo dial up to tiscali broadband.
When I close my wanadoo account will my wanadoo email address be no longer available?
I have sorted my tiscali email account, but want to keep an eye on any incoming mail for the old wanadoo account for a while.

copy any important info to text files.
you may get any new mail diverted from your old account to your new one for a time
use an online free email provider such as gmail or hotmail then in future you can change isps etc with impunity :)

Or..... Buy a domain (<£7) get and some cheap hosting (email only accounts are very cheap:)).

If you are talking about changing from Wanadoo Anytime Dialup to Tiscali then no you won't lose your wanadoo email address they will just change it to pay as you go. You may need to reactivate it once or twice a year.
If you are just talking about closing Wanadoo Pay As You Go, Why bother? It isn't exactly doing any harm.

Didn't think about that.
Yep I'm on Anytime so would be pleased to keep the wanadoo address by not closing the pay as you go.
Just want to keep an eye on 'mail in case I forget to notify anyone of change.
I use virtual names for personal email hosting they offer IMAP and POP and webmail. They're reliable and their email support is good. If don't know the difference between IMAP and POP I'll just say IMAP is probably better if you use broadband and pop is better if you don't.
When I left freeserve I could still access my email for a couple of years, although couldn't send any out, that may have been an oversight that won't happen for you though.
You can convert Yahoo web mail to POP mail free of charge, so that you can always keep the same email address whoever your ISP is, you would just need to reconfigure the Yahoo when the ISP changed.

Yes that was an oversight on your part, your outgoing server is always the address for the ISP your with regardless of your email address.
Think about it Freeserve are unlikely to let you send mail via there servers when you aren't paying for the privelege.
Incoming server of course would be the freeserve incoming addresss.

Do what I do to keep my Wanadoo account open
Just connect to wanadoo for a minute at the end of each month, in actual fact I think you are ok for three months before they cut you off and after this you will need to reactivate it.

Correct
It's every 6 months it needs reactivating, which can be done via www.wanadoo.com - Account Retrieval.
Thanks for all your info!!!!!

I mean the oversight was that they didn't close down the pop mail box straight away. And the argument you make works both with sending and receiving yet one worked and the other did not. I was not expecting anything to work after the change of ISP, but I was curious enough to see if I was right anyway.
sharpend 20-02-2006, 17:32 Don;t forget to back up your address book/favourites.
Even changing ISP has been known to wipe contacts and do a fresh install of outlook express/internet explorer.
Once got caught out by that with the old freeserve...
