Reading that pork pie thread made me really hungry. Mm...
It got me thinking as well on pies.

What's your favourite pie, and where do you buy it from ?

Mine was the Cornish Pasties from Cooplands. Yum !
They no longer do it though, I don't think.
I like how they do their fillings, kinda mushed up meat and potatoes. Don't like it when it's separate. Yuck. :)

All pies are nice, the answer to who ate all the pies is probably me. I hate greggs but the chicken pastys are nice, But any steak and kidney pie wins it, from the supermarket the one in the tin is nice. But the best pie ever is From a shop on mansfield road not sure where exactly, but my dad brings them me they are big enough for 4 and come with a pot of home made gravy.:D lovely.

Coming as I do from over the hill in Lancashire land, I really miss Hollands Pies. They're the standard pie in chip shops over there and I grew up on them. Their cheese and onion in particular is like no other pie I've ever tasted - kinda synthetic but absolutely delicious with a bit of tomato ketchup.

For my money, a traditional Sheffield Meat and Potato 'plate pie', with the obligatory Henderson's Relish [or even mint sauce] beats any Cornish or Black Country imposters. No offence intended to my dear friend and Doppleganger, Lord Chaverly.

Mmmmm, piiiiie! :D I love pie in just about any shape or form it comes in. Mum got a chicken and leek one a few months back when I went over for tea and it was scrummy! Any kind of pie will do though, although I'm not very keen on fish pie. :gag: Chicken and mushroom, Aberdeen Angus, lamb and mint, mmmmmmm! :P

Angel05 makes a fantastic steak pie by the way. ;)

You can get frozen ones in the Co-op! And what's more, they also stock Holland's baba's yeds too. Mmmmmmm.......... You'll have to make your own pea wet though.

God, the best pie for me, bar none, is the Butter Pie. I was in Morrisons and they had a sign for them. I asked for one but they had all sold out. The assistant said they'd been delivered them by mistake and it had taken them months to shift them!

No pies at all for me at the moment though cause the pastry had been making me feel ill. It gives me indigestion!!!!!!

Where exactly is this shop ?

On Mansfield Road. As you go away from Manor Top, it is on the left hand side, just after the fork with Woodhouse Road.

I'm a big fan of those Fray Bentos pies you get in a tin. Nice hot from the tin with some bread and butter and lashings of hendersons.

I'm sure there's not many bachelors in Sheffield who don't have at least one in their larder.

Meat and potato, made by me. I don't buy ready-made pies, I'm too worried about what "meat" is in them, and they tend to have too much salt in and cost too much.

Pasties from Annes pasties on the Lizard in Cornwall, and to take them and sit on the headland below the lighthouse. Excellent.

The one Nomme made last night from the Delicious magazine. Kedgeree pie. Yum yum.

Any pies from the pies from Lime Tree pantry company at Edwinstow?? (they usually do the farmers markets) are fantastic. They do friut and meat and veggie pies. They are all fantastic, lovely and loads of filling, though they are a bit expensive.

And the chicken and ham pie from Coppice farm shop in Rivelin. It is like a pork pie type cold pie but all chicken and ham. Wow.

Though anything with mushrooms is a no no. Why do all companies do mushrooms with chicken. So wrong.

Lime Tree Pantry pies are fantastic.
Various meat and fish , and assorted fruit pies available from chatsworth house, the farmers market on the Moor every month and a number of farm shops.
I've tried most of their varieties and they've all been lovely.

I'd have to agree that a Fray Bentos pie has never disappointed - steak and ale and chicken and mushroom being my favourite. I don't like kidneys (my kidneys don't like me). Did you know that Fray Bentos is a town in Western Uruguay, the original location for the Liebig Extract of Meat Company (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebig_Extract_of_Meat_Company)?

On the subject of pasties, Perfectionary on Shazzavale Road makes the best cornish I have ever had in my life - TOTAL TASTE SENSATION.

Those little scotch pies made with really hard crust and aberdeen angus steak! Think you can get them from Asda in packs of 4. You need tarmac thick gravy to go with them though.

Recently had a Welsh Oggie which was pretty immense as well.

Locally would have to go for either the savoury or fruit pies available at Lunch Box in Chap. The food there is really, really smart.

They're not real scotch pies though, they should be made from mutton.

I was back home last weekend (Northumberland) and I had far too many Scotch Pies. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I love them.

Can't seem to find a proper one in Sheffield though, any pointers would be great :)

Missus! You can't not like a good pie, yet like pink uncooked sausge meat in cheap greasy pastry from Greggs.....Ha'way man pet! ;-)

I will excuse it if it's a hangover cure and you need "stodge".

Or if you buy your pies from Greggs...that's fair comment....I always take a girl out to a classy pie shop....I'm a good date me like, haha.
