View Full Version : Brit Awards 2006
Who do you think should (not will for now ~ that can come later) win the awards?
IMO Coldplay should win the top band award.
I'm a Robbie fan, so I'm biased in thinking that he should win top male artist.
Agent Gypo 15-02-2006, 10:59 The whole lineup for the awards is abysmal. It's just a poor ceremony where lots of musicians get to tell each other how great they are, and the audience gets to watch some average, forgettable musicians who masquerade as 'talented'.
Must be me, but I find "Award shows", embarrassing.
Nothing worse than bands rambling on about their producers, accountants and fans, lots of back slapping, and the badly delivered puns from the hosts of these shows.
The one that springs to mind is the Sam Fox/Somebody from Fleetwood Mac, which admittedly was funny, but painful to watch.
EdnaKrabappe 15-02-2006, 11:35 Ah but tonight Paul Weller is on so therefore must be watched. :)
Anything that gets people to remember him for more than Town called Malice is worthwhile.
Plus As is now is a quality album and deserves more people to purchase it.
Agent Gypo 15-02-2006, 11:40 Paul Weller has written some decent stuff in various bands/solo projects. It's sad to see he's now seemingly devoid of any ideas, one of his latest releases being an album of covers.
Don_Kiddick 16-02-2006, 05:33 James Blunt - awwwwwwwww, bless!
Bet his Mam's rate proud on him ;)
Speed of SOund -
Best British single? It isn't even the best Coldplay single!
Morten Harket.....phwoooooor:love:
dieselbabe 16-02-2006, 20:26 I love the stern look on the face of Craig David when Lemar won the award insted of him. Im so happy someone took that slimey smile away from his face.
Ah come on, Craig David's great. Yes, cheesy, but sooo talented.
RayOberstein 16-02-2006, 23:14 NME awards could prove more intresting viewing!
Don_Kiddick 17-02-2006, 00:43 Morten Harket.....phwoooooor:love:
I often get mistaken for his double - except I have nicer feet ;)
StarSparkle 17-02-2006, 12:43 NME awards could prove more intresting viewing!
Oh please, PLEASE, bring on the NME Awards!!
That 'spectacle' on the tv last night was about as rock 'n roll as my Great Aunt Gertrude  (And that's an insult to her). And it's the BRIT Awards, so how come pride of place goes to Prince and Madonna??? Britain has created the best music the planet has ever heard, we have NOTHING to prove to the Yanks.
I couldn't believe how boring and uninspiring the whole thing was - I waited until the Arctic Monkeys received their Award (highlight of the evening), then turned over to watch the repeat of "Celebrity Big Brother". I know, I know, but it is entertaining.....
And it WAS more entertaining than the Brits - even Chantelle's tortured-cat rendition of the KandyFloss' song was more interesting than the Brits - you knew it was going to be awful, but you knew you had to sit through it to find out just HOW awful it would be!

RobsNo1Fan 17-02-2006, 13:01 I agree it was a bit disappointing last night. Not as good as previous shows but I still watched it all!!
Kirsty_87 17-02-2006, 17:39 Woohoo Green Day won two awards at the Brits!
I love Green Day

Did they win best album or something?? when it was released September 21, 2004
I dunno. i was half watching and soooooooo bored that i didnt take in what was going in.
Prince was better than i expected...but the guy obviously has more musical talent then most of the rest of the people performing put together (even though he is a posey dope :) )

Prince(even if he is a "posey dope";) )is a musical genius.I just wish he had more people round him who could have said "no" a few more times in his career-maybe then he'd be the star he deserves to be...

agreed, very talented.
maybe not in dressing himself thou

He is a master guitar player for one. The emotion he puts into his playing is like the best blues guitar you will hear but adds rock and funk to it. Purple Rain guitar solo is amazing!
he can do songs in any style he chooses and they work!
cant say im a big fan...but i can see why so many people are... and i do love him as a guitar player.
check out these two performances

I agree hes a good guitar player... but his songs did nothing for me at all.

Agreed, Prince is a hugely talented artist - maybe even a genius - but I still feel the Brit Awards should be entirely given over to BRITISH artists, as it is supposed to be a celebration of British music.

You really need to hear his early stuff to appreciate his true talent-basically,everything up to and including the Sign 'o' the times album, was truly brilliant and groundbreaking stuff. His fusion of rock and funk was inspiring to a generation of artists.
I realise now,Kirsty, listening back on his music it may seem old hat,but at the time,no one else was doing what he was doing-plus he's a kick-ass guitarist:D

Last night on the Brits, listening to him made me want to turn over, but when he started showing his stuff on the guitar, that, and the fact that i knew green day were going to be on, made me keep watching.

agreed, but like most award things they just dont do what they say on the tin!
even though id rather eat my own turds then see people kissing paul wellers arse as usuall.... yeah yeah lots of people in this country seem to like him... but i clump him with paul mccartney, james brown...etc... living off old glories (which to me werent that glorious to start with...paul weller...not james brown and paul mccartney :) )
Annoni_mouse 17-02-2006, 19:06 It was just the whole "dinner-table" feel of the Brits that ****** me off. They go on about how rowdy and raucous the Brits get-but its about as rock 'n' roll as an episode of Dads Army:rolleyes:

this is a local forum for local people....we'll have no talk like that here.....:hihi:
This from the latest Popbitch mailout:
The devil used to have all the best songs
Three facts about this year's [Brit] awards yawnfest:
1. Goldman Sachs had more guests than MTV.
2. Kaiser Chiefs' performance of I Predict
A Riot was the cue for waiting staff to
serve guests with stilton and oatcakes.
3. James Blunt's performance coincided with the
biggest queue of the night at the men's toilets.
:hihi:
