View Full Version : Bike stolen from Waitrose
peakview 08-12-2011, 14:30 It happened last night at 5pm.
Snipped the lock cable cleanly and gone.
It's a white and black Giant Yukon FX3, with toeclips on the pedals, not SPDs.
1 Get a U-lock
2 The thief wore a high vis jacket and looked like a cyclist so as not to attract attention.
3 The bike park at Waitrose, even though it's by the door, is dingy and ill lit.
4 It is only marginally covered by the CCTV camera in the lobby
5 It's a posh supermarket but it's in a high crime area.
6 It's a shame they banished the Big Issue seller
7 Gutted
safeway wasn't a posh supermarket, but waitrose wound up with half their stores, and morrison's the other. This is the closest Waitrose could get to a decent city centre site at the time. I heard some time ago that decathlon is supposed to be taking this building over when Waitrose move, but presumably that won't happen until John Lewis move
Anybody know any more on that?

John Lewis are staying in their current location.
You would have thought it being in a public place would have put someone off from taking your bike. I've had a bike taken, I know how you feel.
Dizzyblonde 08-12-2011, 18:01 We had a bike stolen from there some years ago, the one consolation was that my husband had been too lazy to fix the brakes to the thief probably killed themselves the first time they went downhill. We faired better on the insurance.
It pleases me to think that they probably got what they deserved.
Does anyone seriously believe that any of the city centre development will come off? By the time it does there will probably only be a couple of stores not in receivership nationwide, so fargate and pinstone street will probably surfice. I think it was reported in the Star that John Lewis were not shifting.

Sorry to hijack but this has just reminded me...bought something from Waitrose last night (first time) and was given a green token along with my receipt. I'd assumed this was for the car park exit but there was no barrier. So what's the green token for??

They have 3 different boxes at the exits each for a different charity. You put the token in the one you want to support and if you pick the wrong one they kill you.
Actually that's not true, they then donate some money proportionaly according to how many tokens in each.
Re: the OP gutted you got your bike nicked, I'm amazed that waitrose don't have propper outside CCTV covering the entrances.

They support local charitys, this is from their site.
As the food division of the John Lewis Partnership we participate in donating large sums of money each year to a wide variety of national charities and good causes. However, we have introduced a Community Matters scheme to our branches. This will involve our branches supporting three nominated local charities or community groups per month and £1,000 will be available every month for each shop to divide between the chosen causes.
A token will be given to customers after a transaction and they may choose which local organisation they wish to support by placing their token in the box for the relevant cause. This is an initiative designed to enable branches to support local communities within their trading area and is intended to reflect our difference as a business. We also hope it will mean that our impact in local communities can be measured and our Partners and customers will be involved in the local investment decision-making and recommendation of local groups.
To nominate your organisation please pick up a nomination form from the Welcome Desk at your local branch.

Youy send it to a Lib Dem MP who are collecting them to fund green tokenism, such as solar panels and the like.
A friend of mine had his bike stolen from outside decathlon shortly after this and the thief was seen with 2 bikes apparently so could be the same guy.
Hope you're insured or get it back!
