Just heard that the cafe inside Howden House (Town Hall) is charging, via the private company, £5.10 for a litre of orange juice. Is this the dearest in Shefield ?

I think that just tipped the price of any OJs ! >.<
Anybody who buys it, has got too much money to throw around.

Even 'Tropicana' (and they claim they are freshly squeezed type) are only like 2-3 quid per litre from supermarkets.

Why would any one go into a cafe and buy a whole litre of orange juice. You sure they haven't bought a cup full and used the rounding up method to come to some daft price?

Same as if you buy a glass of wine at £1.90, you get 4 to 5 glasses in a bottle thats £10 for a £3.99 bottle of plonk !

It's a cafe !!!!!!

How much do you expect to pay for a Glass of OJ in a cafe???

About a pound?

Multiply that up to a litre and you will find that it is about right!!!

I think they're selling litre cartons for £5.10, not per glass mark up equivalent.

If it's staff buying it for meetings it sounds about right, as caterers charge through the nose for that kind of thing! Example - where I am, OJ for each person would be about £1.20 each, equivalent of a plastic cup full, poured into one big jug. Sandwiches for one are around £4-£5, that's about 2-3 rounds of bread with a few prawns or a bit of cheese in!

thats exactly what it is just some pillock misinterpreting an internal council article about the prices of catering charged by the contracted caterer for meetings etc as usual someone trying to make something out of nothing and start the usual anti council rants boring!!!!

Just wanted to say well done all for stifling this sort of ill informed and inflamatory nonsense. Power to those who see the glass half full!!

Brilliant! Once again that handful of Sheffield Forumers with not a kind or interesting word to say have bothered to take the time to pass comment on an innocent thread which, if read as it seemed to have been intended, was meant as a comedic observation! Sincerest thanks to Cockneynorth whose latest gift to us regular readers follows 2 fascinating threads on the state of the A61 and the possible virtues of BBQ'd spare ribs and Stejen who thought it valuable to ascertain feeling about Prince Charles' recent visit to the city... and deduced that it was poor based on 3 responses.

I see no comedic intent, and I have the driest sense of humour I know of. It seems nobody else on the thread saw it either

I heard the 'cafe' was to be an internet cafe, didn't think that they were planning to sell drinks. I was in Howden House last week, didn't see any for sale. Much more likely to be the catering prices for meetings as suggested by mathom and stejen.

Just a point, Howden House isn't the Town Hall, thats still the Victorian Building by the Peace Gardens.

Very pedantic I know, but Tropicana is made from concentrate and is not freshly squeezed.

and another thing ... when you ask for orange juice at a bar, they often say "Fresh Orange Juice?" you say "yes" and they give you a bottle of britvic or similar which IMHO is far from fresh. :suspect:

I am somewhat confused. Dry ? But we're talking about OJ here. ;)

ANY way... some of us do work in the restaurant businesses and yes, believe or not... we do debate about the prices of OJ (and how much a glass should be charged) ! LOL... the irony.

I have a truly wonderful carton of orange juice in my fridge. It is well past it's best before date, but I love it too much to bin it. Surely this is the dearest OJ in Sheffield?
