Is it me or is it when my friends come from sheffield for a night out in rotherham on a friday night that there are about 7 gangs of about 30 kids in the interchange. you do feel intimidated but why is it that the police dont have a curfew on because im talking about 10pm at night you can smell weed and smoke all the time and the customer service people just go up to them and talk to them.

can someone please tell me why they do this?

I mean in sheffield bus station you dont see any gangs but in rotherham its an all different story unless they come from sheffield as i've been told before as they all go to that pop and crisp night at the liquid in rotherham as there is non in sheffield now.

if you have ever been to rotherham interchange do you ever feel unsafe?

i have seen riot vans and everything before in that bus station its like a magnet everyone from the local housing estates which all seem to be rought like masborough, eastwood, clifton, wellgate, canklow they must all go to the bus station because its warm and sheltered from the wind rain i dont know but i was hoping that there could be a number to phone to get these kids if they are not waitng for a bus out of the bus station for good.

Scooby, the customer services you refer to are probably speaking to the youths as you wish. Speaking to them is there job, they aren't bouncers.

Rotherham Interchange (i dont work there!) is safe, granted you do get your elements of small groups of youths but they are monitored. I do knwo from experience that the site is well staffed and covered by 24 hour monitored CCTV. If you have a problem speak to Rotherham Interchange.

With respect if I were you I would ask a lot of folk especially old folk about Rotherham Interchange and how it makes them feel uneasy using it in the evenings and also to a degree during the day time as well due to the groups of youths and girls arguing and swigging from cans of lager I know that some people have taken to using the bus operating lanes to avoid these problems.
I personally think that a bus station should be just that to catch a bus and out of bounds for other purposes as at the moment its mainly one giant youth club and this matter needs addressing fast.

I used to work for the PTE, and the staff in the green uniforms with the flourescent jackets are Customer Service Officers (CSOs) - they are there to be of service to the customer, but also for the safety of everyone there. If there are any problems, or you feel unsafe, you can speak to them about the gangs etc, and they will ask them to move on. They will also contact the Police is needs be. There are CSOs on 24/7, always somebody in the control room watching the CCTV, so you shouldn't feel unsafe.

I think a lot of it is perception of safety. It's the feeling of the place but generally it is a safe place, unfortunately groups of youths through presence alone can be intimidating to many people and not just old. A station if for catching buses and 99.9% do exactly that. S8 Blade puts good comments on what to do.
