all you need to do is type the bus shelter number as a text message into your phone which can be found on the side of bus stops or bus timetables at the bottom of the timetable this service is only valid in south and west yorkshire.

all south yorkshire bus stops start with 370 then followed by a 5 digit number

this service costs 12p and texts you back in less than a minute.

it tells you how far away the bus is from the bus stop so its good if the bus may be late as it will tell you.

or if you go on this site type your bus number in and it does it for free and updates every minute.

http://wymetro.acislive.com/

and type in the details and it should tell you.

if you need any advice on how to use this service type it below.

also please vote in the poll and let me know if you knew about this service already or if this is the first time you have herd about it.

thanks.:)

This is a very handy service to have as it can tell you if the bus is going to be late or early or for once and this would be a world record if the bus is on time.

i forgot to say this before but the bus tracking devices are on all tracky buses in yorkshire ie, yorkshire traction, terrier ,barnsley and district, roadcar and on all first buses ,keighley and district, mass leon for doncaster and arriva yorkshire.

for bus services that are traveeling from outside west and south yorkshire it will only display what time it is scheduled to depart from that certain stop.

You're jumping the gun scooby!

Wait until it is officially launched which may take several months. At the moment not all the bus fleets are fitted with the Real-Time kit which is needed.

The service will work but you are likely to get the scheduled time rather than that Real-Time. The launch has not happened yet as the SYPTE want a high ratio of bus services fitted with the kit. It has been launched in West Yorks but they are happy for scheduled times to be given out as quite a high number bus stops/shelters they have do not display timetable info like they do in South Yorks.

it was officially launched in west yorkshire in october and in south yorkshire it was officially launched in january.

not all buses will be fitted with the tracking device like buses from derbyshire, nottinghamshire, lincolnshire, greater manchester, east yorkshire, north yorkshire.

the buses to be fitted will be the local buses in south and west yorkshire.

It doesn't work (maybe "yet").

I have been on the website and it just produces the next 3 buses for my stop at exactly 20 minutes apart.

That is timetable information ..... NOT "tracking" information.

That is beacuse it has not been launched officially. Most haven't heard of it because the Real-Time aspect is not ready. I think the PTE want to have a good number of buses fitted with real-time kit before officially launching.

It aint £1. It's the costs of two texts, one from you and the text you receive back. There's no profit to be made, onlyto the network companies.

If all busses were fitted with tracking devices then in theory it would be possible to map out where the busses were using Google earth. Now that would be cool

perhaps you should drive a bit faster then.

Why the poll as well?? do you want to be the first to announce something that isnt happening yet???

I thought that a similar experiment was tried with the First 51 Service. This one involved a "Next Bus" display on the Bus Shelter at the Peace Gardens.

It didn't last long as it didn't work.... often waiting twenty minutes for the bus that was due in "5 minutes". :)
