View Full Version : Is Ryanair the scariest airline ever....?
Did anyone watch the dispatches programme on channel 4 tonight (mon) about ryanair. reporters went undercover and to be honest the stuff they found out was down right scary. you put your life in the hands of cabin crew and this prog says that the never have any practical training before their first flight, they skip safety checks to pick up rubbish, don't check passports (gift to terrorists), cover up vomit by putting aftershave about, and the list goes on. anyone else willing to pay more for a flight with someone else now!!!!
Yup I won't ever be travelling Ryanair. I'm a bit weird in that the thought of the sitting in a pile of vomit bothered me more than the safety stuff.
(BTW: Cinemas also do this, they don't have time to clear up sick between showings and it's pretty common, parents have a habit of taking sick children to see films. Always check your seat before you sit  )
riot187tns 13-02-2006, 21:58 I like to live life on the edge. And what does thy expect for a buck a flight? Long live Ryanair... Well, maybe that's a poor choice of words, but you know what I mean!

I know what you mean, if theres a crash, likely to be dead (specially if in seat 1a apparently:shocked: ) but sitting vomit is gross. dirty sods should clean it
sheff_minx 14-02-2006, 00:00 I missed this; anybody know if it's going to be repeated (I have Sky so repeats on E4 etc are watchable)?
dunno if it'll be repeated but E4 is the most likely or maybe more 4 cos that has more programmes like that on it.

Not while airlines like sudanese airways still exist.
Once flew with them and only after takeoff realised that the seats weren't bolted to the floor!.Crew also had to ask someone behind me to turn off a gas cylinder which they had lit to make a brew.

I missed it  argh! wanted to watch it too!
neeeeeeeeeek 14-02-2006, 08:27 I don't know why people are shocked, did you honestly think it would be any different? It's a cheap airline that takes you from A-B with no extra's, of course the customer does not matter, it's bums on seats. If a plane crashes then your pretty much doomed so why worry about it. I think you would get the same standards with many airlines, they might just pretend to care a bit more.
a gift to terrorists...
Apart from the fact that passports are also checked at the check-in desk and at passport control/xray security.
It's never been a legal requirement to check passports before boarding and seems a bit excessive to me as i've been given a boarding pass and gone through passport control into the secure area already.
cgksheff 14-02-2006, 10:10 Have a read of the correspondence between Ryanair and Steve Boulton Productions (makers of the documentary):
Here (http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/inpage.php?partner=DISPATCHES)
valentine 14-02-2006, 10:14 I once flew with Aeroflot (Russian Airline) that was scarey.
The pilot was reving his engine as we boarded and took off before we found our seats, they don't give you safety instructions either incase it frightens you.
the correspondence is interesting, if long winded.

Personally i would never fly Ryanair, you may get cheap flights but they fly you to a airport that can be way out in the sticks and something like 50 miles from the destination your trying to get too.
We also have to take some off last nights programme with a pinch of salt as the producers will have done a bit of cleaver editing to make Ryanair to look far worse than they really are.
I did find this link on the subject of last nights TV programme which gives some intresting opinions & views

If anybody finds out it is being repeated I'd appreciate a posting because I'd really like to watch it.
I have never flown Ryanair but have flown with other budget airlines like BMIbaby, Jet2.com and Flybe and never had a problem with any of them.
squeakyclean 14-02-2006, 14:08 We flew ryanair last year to Spain and are doing the same again this year. the aircaraft was clean and the staff were alot more proffessional than the staff we encountered on an american airline. I think it is excellent value for monry , of course the planes are not going to get a full valet after each flight as they run like a bus service to alot of destinations.
