According to RS we played in a 4-3-3 formation with Webber playing on the wing with Ade on the other wing & Shipps in the middle,I said we had to watch McSheffrey he can be a tricky player, but playing Jags on the left wing what was Warnock plying at.

Warnock needs to accept that it was a **** choice of team and tactics and get on with not making the same mistake again. It doesn't seem like he's able to accept yesterdays team selection was a joke. Maybe Macca should take him to one side and have a word.

I don't know - I've slept on it and still feel negative. Why do I think that Neils ego is at the back of all this - blade through and through, job for life etc etc. Why so many strikers, why unbalance everything?

The only guarantee is more heartache before the end of April, cos Leeds/ Watford are lapping this up and are on a major roll.

I could put up with the play offs, but Leeds taking automatic would be too much.

It's a good job Leeds drew yesterday. Our next away game against Norwich is crucial, we need to win to keep Leeds at bay.....

Both sides now have a difficult run of games so it's going to be very interesting over the next few weeks.

Crystal Palace are going to have a big say in all this as well Gypo.
Its still in our hands though and even a draw at BDTBL against weeds takes yet another match off the fixture list.
I mean lets face it the Blades are like a 99-1 longshot in a horse race trying to find the wire and i think we will , i might need some :help: but i still think we did enough early in the season to go up automatically.
Cant see us getting anything at Norwich to be honest and lets hope Coventrys great home form lasts for one more week :D
By next saturday i think we will be 4 points up on Leeds with a game in hand .

Prove me wrong Blades.

Warnock puzzled me by saying it does not matter what tactics we played, the players were poor in the first half,it does matter what tactics you play it is the difference between winning or losing.Pearce at Man City apologised to his fans for the tactics he played,he admitted he got it wrong.Warnock should have done the same.UP THE MIGHTIER BLADES

Sorry Neil but tactics do matter.

If you play players out of position you lose balance which is VITAL.

We need to revet to the simple 442 we played when Webber and HMS played up front.

That's what got us where we are.

Robbie - couldn't agree with you more. We are all in it together, that includes Neil, but he is looking to blame everyone but himself. I would be far happier if he'd just come out and say - alright, I got it wrong - but I fear there's more going off behind the scenes than we are likely to get to know about.

Starting to look like the same old story I agree, but at the end of the day, if we would have started the season poorly and found ourself in the position that we are in now, Im sure we would'nt be feeling as negative as we are???

Anyway as for saturday, The first half performance was poor, but as stated, it was down to the 4-3-3 formation that Warnock fielded, It makes me wonder if we even send scouts out to watch teams prior to playing them, cos if we do, maybe it's Warnock who does'nt listen to the scouts report and just does things his way instead?

Certain clauses in players contracts are clouding Warnocks better judgement, he feels that due to appearance fees etc, that players need to play regardless of current form / fitness, just to meet contract needs.

Im not completely negative about whats happening though, Im still trying to find the positive that Leeds still have to play Crystal Palace, Reading, and us The Mighty Blades!, before the end of the season, and Im sure they have that sitting in the back of there minds as well.

I think what we need is to absolutely spank a team to gain confidence within the camp again??? I dont think we will get it next week, in fact a draw would be a good result considering Norwich's recent form????

But anyway, Danny Webber fully fit again? Shipps and Kabba also available, maybe would need to get rid of some complacent players and actually field our strongest team????

Robbie have you heard anything about Unsworth & Warnock having a barny?
only rumours, but after his omission from the squad saturday it would seem these rumours do have something about them.

you see that was the main problem i had with sat, we played chrissy armstrong in middle of park, and jags at left back.

why not play either unsworth or armstrong (both natural left backs) at left back?? instead we had to put up with make shift ones, geary/jags/kozzy (granted kozzy went right back)

we need to sort something out this weekend, other wise i can see a scoreline like when we visited portman road last season (6-1 was it?)

norwich are a dangerous side when they wanna be, and i can see robbie earnshaw having a field day with our defence as it stands

Although Unsworth played well at the start of the season, like a few other players he seemed to go downhill. I'm not sure that he is any better than Armstrong, and I don't think he should have any complaints at being left out for a while. He is at least partly to blame for our reason bad run, for acting so stupidly and getting sent off and missing 3 games when we were already struggling with injured defenders. Even if he did make it back into the 1st team, he would miss 2 games when he picks up his next yellow card as he will be on 10 yellows.

Yorkshire Post:
VETERAN defender David Unsworth has been told that he still has a future at Sheffield United.
The former England international left-back has been out in the cold since a moment of madness against Watford seven games ago.
Unsworth picked up a three-game ban for elbowing Watford winger Chris Eagles and has subsequently been kept out of the side by Chris Armstrong.
His absence from the travelling party for Saturday's defeat at Coventry City sparked rumours of a behind-the-scenes bust-up – especially as manager Neil Warnock resorted to employing his best midfield player, Phil Jagielka, at left-back rather than Unsworth, who was not injured.
Warnock last night defended his team selection and confirmed that Unsworth would be back in the squad for this weekend's game at Norwich City.
"There has been no bust-up and there are no bad eggs in my dressing room," he said. "David understands the situation and still figures in my plans.

Interview with Neil Warnock regarding Unsworth Argument speculation:-

This i taken from the Radio Sheffield Football chat show!

"So Neil, If I can just ask you about the rumours flying around regarding You and David Unsworth".

Warnock, "Everything has just been blown out of proportion by the press, and I think there is a little game of chinese wispers going on amongst the fans, but I can honestly say that nothings happened like everyones saying".

"Some fans are worried having heard Unsworth could have played his last game at the lane?"

Warnock, (laughs) "What a load of cods-wallop, David will not be leaving us, and he's gonna be a very important player between now and the end of the campaign".

"So.... Some other rumours suggest a fall out between Ifill and Unsworth, Is there any truth in this Neil".

Warnock, (laughs again) "Well has you'd expect, it's understandable that some of the lads are getting frustrated as most of the lads are really trying at the moment, but the luck just is'nt going our way, and tempers do get frayed!"......................"As for the Argument, I don't no of any serious problems that we've got amongst the camp, but I hope that the anger amongst the players can be used for the final push between now and the end of the season, but no......Theres been no fall out between the lads".......

So Warnock is being tight lipped, allthough sources do state that the arguments happened between Unsworth and Ifill, and it was to do with work rate on the pitch??????

But What do you make of it?

Matt like Warnock say's there is a load of rumours going around & rumours get blown out of all proportion,if he say's the lads are angry at the way they have been playing I can understand that, but Unsworth said when he got sent off that he apologised to all the fans & his fellow players for being stupid,at the end of the day we have a great squad & I think if we play like we did in the 2nd half against Coventry in all our remaing matches the goals & wins will come.UP THE MIGHTIER BLADES

Talking about rumours an aqaintence of ours who knows one of the coaching staff told me about Warnock having a bust up McCall on saturday, about the tactics at half time & Warnock told him that he was the boss & McCall was the assistant. And the coaching guy has said that if we lose on Saturday against Norwich Warnock will be sacked & McCall will remain in charge. Now I do not know for certain wether this is true but he also said that Warnock has lost the plot & refuses to blame himself & there was a bust up with Unsworth.

Headlines tomorrow - SHEFFIELD UNITED IN BUST UP SHOCKER.

Neil Warnock - Sheffield United's outspoken manager, and rumoured to be the most hated man in football, gave his doubters more ammunition yesterday by only taking his favourites on a trip to the races. Phil Jagielka, recently voted the Football leagues best player, was left behing as Warnock said -" You've had your day out son, I'm the boss and I say who goes."

Morgan and Short were given prime roles in protecting Gillespie and Quinn as they raced to and from the bookies, placing bets in record time, while Paddy Kenny was told by Warnock to stay at the Pie counter and make sure the refershments kept coming.

Rob Kozluk was handed the entertainers role, doing impressions of Paul Sturrock and Stan Ternant, whilst simultaneously balancing on a pair of ridiculously coloured football boots last seen being worn in a documentary on United's blades fanatic manager.

Warnock was heard to say " That'll show 'em that I know what position to put players in".

May I also point out it says "Non Transferable" on the front page of the season ticket.

If you went to the ticket office and asked for the name to be changed on it, you're liable to have it taken off you so I certainly wouldn't try that one.

If you are insistant on selling it, I'd just hand the book over and hope that the person you sell it to doesn't do anything silly in your brother's name. With the client code and book number, the club would trace everything back to your brother.

Sunderland's Andy Gray has joined the Clarets on loan for the rest of the season - with a permanent deal to be completed in the summer.
Well that's stuffed L***s Blackwell was so sure he would go to them,I wonder why Gray didn't sign for them seeing that he used to be on their books, might be they said he was not good enough, good on Gray & I hope he does well for them.

2. Utd 90pts
3= Leeds 84pts
3= Watford 84pts

This included a win against Leeds. What a massive 6 pointer that is going to be. For the recdord I had the following united results:

Norwich-Away-Draw
Southampton -Home -Win
Stoke-Away-Win
Hull -Home-Win
Cardiff -Away-Lose
Weeds-Home-Win

I know some of you will say Jags is best in midfield but I disagree.

When he was playing right back he was the best in that position outside the Premiership and better than 75% of the ones in it. Plus we defended better as aunit too.

Also I reckon if we have Armstrong on the left side of midfield if gives us a better shape if Unsworth plays because they can both bomb forward and both defend.

Finally, we looked at our best going forward when Webbs and HMS played together. This is said in the knowledge that Akinbiyi and Horsefield and actually better players though.

Sorry Tosh, and much as it pains me, but its a bit much to even talk about Leeds fixing matches. Lets stop talking about what we deserve any more - fact is we got nothing because we weren't good enough on the day. We've got nothing from the other matches we've cocked up - cos we simply haven't been good enough.

I am sitting here hoping that things are going to turn round, but the Southampton game now takes on real importance. Leeds aren't playing that well, but getting results, its a worry now. We've been here before, I only hope that Neil has something to change thats gonna work, and soon.

your picking a player who has so far never played for us (lucketti) a player who is awful 90% of the time (ifill) and a donkey in morgan, i really dont understand

I know some of you will say Jags is best in midfield but I disagree.

When he was playing right back he was the best in that position outside the Premiership and better than 75% of the ones in it. Plus we defended better as aunit too.

jags is not a defender, it really is that simple, he is a good makeshift dont get me wrong, but as a out and out defender, no way. the defence was also worse when he was back there.

Finally, we looked at our best going forward when Webbs and HMS played together. This is said in the knowledge that Akinbiyi and Horsefield and actually better players though.

am i reading correctly that you class akinbiyi and horsefield as better players than HMS and webber? i really do hope you are joking. webber is far better than akinbiyi, and i just dont see where people think horsefield is a good player, in the small amount of time he has been with us, he has done NOTHING. no goals, no assists, no good build up play, NOTHING.

Just my opinion.
are you basing this opinion from going to games? cause it seems not. im not trying to be patronising but i just cant understand how you come to some of the conclusions you have if you go to games.

Totally stunned, we deserved so much from this game we dominated & got stung by 2 defensive mistakes, again, according to the BBC commentator L***s penalty was dubious, but does it make anyone else wonder why they keep getting these late penalties & opposing team players getting sent off, well if they fixed matches in the 70s they can do the same in 06.But I mentioned Earnshaw in an earlier post he is Prem quality & showed it by scoring, our strikers couldn't score in a brothel at the moment. What is going on we can't score for love or money,up to xmas we were the 2nd best scorers in the Championship.UP THE MIGHTIER BLADES (GOBSMACKED)

its hard to say whether we deserved anything today, we did some ok stuff, and kozzy was linking up well today, but the thing is, nobody seems to be a threat to defences lately. i also expected a lot more from robbie earnshaw, he was rather quiet for long periods of the game. the biggest thorn in our side AGAIN was old man huckerby.

to be fair, we was unlucky in the fact HMS had a cracking shot come off the post just before they scored. we win some, we lose some,

at least leeds only gained one more point on us, and honestly this is the last fixture on the list i would have settled for a draw. the remaining ones we have now i cant see any reason why we should not win them, although on currecnt form i would be too quick to say we will win them.

Jambo - be realistic mate. There are loads of people who simply can't afford it - and although being a blade is part of peoples life - they have bills, food, mortgage etc to pay for. Priorities - thats all it is - but good on the club for doing that, to get some support.

Fact - football is all important to some, important to others, but everyone has decisions to make.

Back to football - Shipps deserved that goal, and that could have been a turning point, pity Tonge's goal was disallowed, big attacking formation needed for the Southampton game.

did you ever think people might have been driving down already? and decided to get coach instead? with out doubt the free coaches swelled the amount of people who went, but to say they are part timers is a bit unfair.

how about the week before when we had 5,200 at coventry when there was no free transport? are they all part times? because as far as i am concerned there has not been away support like that for a long time (excluding the owls game of course)

anyways, as for shipps hitting the post and making it 2-0? was you actually at the game?? the game was sitting at 1-1 when that hit the post.

I saw this and must admit all those conspiracy theories the Blades fans were coming up with regarding Leeds over the past few weeks just might have something in it. If Blackwell has done this it is a disgrace. But what got me was when the interviewer asked Mickey Adams if he was going to do something about it and he said no! Also why didn't the interviewer ask Blackwell about it, he seemed to gloss over it with him.

Still the FA will be using their resources wisely by fining Warnock for sticking the rods up at Worthington (*joke* but hey you never know!)

You misunderstood Robbie.

I meant Horsefield & Akinbiyi are better players than Shipperly. Not Webber & Shipperley.

Also, how you can say our defence was worse I really don't know. I can't remember our defence being as shaky as it is at present for a long time. I've lost count of the number of soft goals we've conceded recently.

The reason I opted for Lucketti is because at the moment I think he leadership and experience is need to shore things up. Clearly I would go for Bromby over him in a technical sense because Bromby is much the better player. However at times recently I think the pressure has got to Bromby and he has made some very costly errors.

I think the combination of Lucketti and Morgan would be ideal at the moment.

This being my strongest side I picked Ifill because he is a class player. Fair enough he has not had a good start but he is one of the most talented players at the club. No doubt about that.

I left Quinn out because if he did play he would only get on the left of mdifield for me and at the moment I wouldn't consider dropping Armstrong.

I think we've missed Montgomery in the middle as well (much as it pains me to say).

Basically I think that playing the defence as per my squad would strengthen the back four and I reckon Jags and Ifill would link up well because Jags is better on the ball than any of our regular right backs and would be able to play the ball into areas Ifill is dangerous rather than aiming for his chest from 60 yards which keep trying to do.

At the end of the day we're not playing well at the moment. I was trying to think of ways of turning our fortunes round. Maybe I was wrong.

I noticed on Saturday that we seemed to play loads better but again the defence let us down. 2 more soft goals.

Blades eye Black Cats swoop Mon, Mar 20 2006 13:29
United are being linked with a move for Sunderland defender Gary Breen who looks certain to leave the Stadium of Light in the summer.
Breen has hinted he is ready to walk out on the Black Cats when they are relegated back to the Championship, news which has not gone down well with the Sunderland faithful who barracked him during the game against Bolton on Saturday.
Breen has been struggling to hold down a regular place in the side following the departure of Mick McCarthy and the Blades will make a move to sign him if they go on and win promotion to the Premiership.
Boss Neil Warnock will be looking to replace veteran Craig Short if promotion is achieved and the experienced Breen is a target.
I have made an official complaint to the FA about Blackwells actions on saturday while playing Coventry & said if the FA are looking into complaints from the Norwich fans regarding Warnocks actions on saturday, they should look into the Blackwell matter as he broke FA regulations. And I hope other Utd fans complain to the FA as well.UP THE MIGHTIER BLADES

sorry if my post seemed harsh by the way, ws in a bad mood and relatively drunk.

anyways, yes we havent conceded so many soft goals for a long time, but jagielka was partly to blame for that happening last week at coventry (he was the one put at the back to stop mcsheffrey, and yes i know it was the pooor back pass from morgan which it came from) but jags has never looked a good defender, its just that simple in my eyes, i know a lot of people will disagree on that.

as for not playing well, look at warnocks post match interview, he will have you believe we was amazing saturday something which we wasnt)

we need to get lucketti in the side agreed, and if you wanna put jags in defence, get him at centre back with lucketti.

tonge and monty in middle, armstrong at left back, quinny left and gillespie right

this is how i think we should be having our team at moment

kenny
geary-jagielka-lucketti-armstrong
gillespie-monty-tonge-quinn

and only reason im putting jags there is cause morgan and short have been nothing short of poor lately

subs we would have ifill, akinbadbuy, kabba, unsworth and kozzy

unsworth can play centre back and left back, koz can play left and right back, ifill can play left or right wing. so it gives us some great options

so think of it thiis way, quinn can play all along middle, armstrong anywhere on left, jags anywhere on the pitch, monty well monty is monty, tonge can play left or centre mid, gillespie can play l;eft or right.

we have armstrong and geary overlapping consistently with quinn and gillespie. lets take the game to the saints and batter them

No worries mate, I like to start a debate and you certainly got stuck in.

Good team you've gone for though, I like it.

I'd still have Armstrong on left midfield, his crossing if far better than anyone elses at the moment.

Saying that though Quinn has enough defensive ability to allow Armstrong to bomb forward.

HORSFIELD'S FEELING LEFT OUT, AGAIN
STRIKER Geoff Horsfield is at loggerheads with Neil Warnock over a first-team place. Horsfield moved to Sheffield United from West Brom on loan six weeks ago after being frustrated by his lack of opportunities.
Despite a promising start Horsfield, 32, is now facing the same problem.
He has confronted boss Warnock - but it is unlikely to change unless there is an injury crisis.Despite a promising start ,what I have read when other's have been to the match he did nothing, does he think he can walk into the team, just because he played in the Premiere League.Watford had a good win at Southampton last night,if we cannot beat them on saturday & Stoke as well we don't deserve anything.I really think Warnock should play Lucketti instead of Short he is too old & off the pace. Both Norwich goals came from a set piece's & with good defending they would not have scored.

Although I like Horsefield as a player,I do think a defender was the top priority, but we are not going to get one now as teams are trying to hold on to there best players,so we have Lucketti,by all accounts is a good defender.UP THE MIGHTIER BLADES.
I have just been on the official Blades website & Warnock is looking at cancelling Horsefield loan contract with WBA,SO BYE BYE Horsey

Does that table mean we're playing Watford home and away twice?

So there's every chance we play ourselves in the final, even the blades can't cock that one up.

Top result, opening the bubbly now.

Sorry Horsefield didn't work out but it's better he goes now.

After watching the game last night Southampton were poor and if we dont beat them we dont deserve anything:roll:

Blades fans make me laugh, demanding Warnocks head if they dont get promoted!
They certainly have no divine right to promotion, and if they did sack him the only way would be down.

Anyone elso going for a few beers before the game on saturday- should be going in the R+R bar for a couple!

I really would like to see jags dropped into central defence against leeds, we have got absolutely no pace when short/morgan/lucketti are playing and hulse will rip them apart- keep tongy in the middle of the park with monty.

My top team at the moment-

Kenny
Kozzy, Jags, Morgan Unsworth
Ifill, Tongy, Monty, Quinn
Shipperly, Webber

West Brom are insisting Geoff Horsfield's move to Sheffield United is already a "done deal" despite the Blades claiming they are to investigate ways of terminating the striker's switch from The Hawthorns to Bramall Lane.
Albion are adamant the transfer of Horsfield - for £1.25 million after an initial loan period with the Blades - will stand unless they can find an alternative club to take over the deal.
Albion told PA Sport: "West Bromwich Albion have a done deal with Sheffield United regarding Geoff Horsfield, which covers the striker's loan until the end of the season and his permanent transfer - for an already agreed fee - on July 1."
He added: "That deal will stand unless Sheffield United can find an alternative club to take on their responsibilities."
Horsfield made the move back to his native Yorkshire last month following the return from African Nations Cup duty of the Baggies duo of Kanu and Diomansy Kamara.
Albion agreed a £1million move plus an extra £250,000 in add-ons with United for 31-year-old Horsfield, with the deal becoming permanent in the summer.
West Brom have already spent the money they expected to receive for Horsfield on midfielder Nigel Quashie who moved from Southampton.

If we don't go up this year warnock will leave the club himself to try a new challenge- he has said it himself- and he would hand it over to stuart mcall who is a born leader!!!!

anyway- who cares- were going up so it doesn't matter!

I don't want to see Warnock go, regardless of what division we are in next season.
