As far as I'm aware, unless you have files that your other media players won't support.

I don't know too much about it in all honesty, but I had AVI files I couldn't play on Windows Media Player, and after the advice of these guys I downloaded VLC and i've not used anything else since :)

It's also possible that the video was coded by the DivX format, I had problems with winamp/WMP playing some avi files, I updated my copy of DivX player after that they files played fine in winamp/WMP.

sorry Spyro, just got in;

from the website;

VLC is a free cross-platform media player.

* It supports a large number of multimedia formats, without the need for additional codecs
* It is available for almost every OS
* It needs little CPU power

unless people use Gspot to see what audio/video codecs they require for the avi file in question, just downloading codec packs can be detrimental. they can conflict, contain viri etc.

so i'd stick with VLC, and the K Lite Codec pack, if a codec pack is required

Ditto, will tell you exactly what codecs you need to get for a particular file!

Some codec packs can cause problems when you try and install another codec.
