Hi,

We are looking at moving to a terraced house in Woodseats, however we are not local (live in york) and were wondering what the area is like in general?

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Woodseats is good for everything really, good shopping, good pubs, good dentists, good doctors, near parks, library, and most of all the people are good, very friendly, plenty of buses come through Woodseats, but driving through Woodseats isn't too good, ok for schools as well. You won't regret moving here, it's great!

Yep, I was brought up in Woodseats. I live on the other side of the city now, but my parents still live there. Went to Woodseats junior school also.

Have to admit, driving through there can be a nightmare. But that's the only minus point to the area IMO. In terms of shops, everything is there.

Enjoy!

great apart frrom traffic

fresh fish shop - baldocks - good stuff

best indian at its price - dil shad

battys the butcher - great unless you're a vegetarian

tescos - the usual crap

It's got all the shops

a good park, a library

reasonable buses,

the pubs are a mixed lot

the woodseats is ok

and there's a new cheap weatherspoons

it's a nice working class suburb, a bit monocultural but improving.

wish I still lived there

it's a long walk from town

Nice area. Good amenities (Graves Park, library, shops, school, pubs, busses, etc.) but a traffic nightmare on main road at peak times.

We also hold periodic forum meets at the Woodseats Palace (aka Weatherspoons). :partyhat:

Woodseats is an excellent place to live.

Its very central to Sheffield, has a really good variety of shops including a supermarket and several banks.

There are sum good pubs and restaurants there too, i would recommend woodseats anyday!

Woodseats is a brilliant place to live, fantastic pubs, resteraunts, shops, public transport, parks everything you could want from a place to live.

You should also check out Meersbrook, which is just down the hill from woodseats, both are great places to live.

Good luck with your house hunt!

Just to be controversial, all the people I know who live in Woodseats regret moving there, and warned us off from buying there last year.

This article pretty much sums up the kind of feedback folks were giving:

Good amenities though!

Good luck.

The last post is just so much bilge. I've lived in Woodseats for many years and can think of plenty of worse places to live. The area is not packed with chavs and has a wide cross range of ages, plenty of the older people were born here, grew up here and now as old age pensioners still live here.
Woodseats school seems to of got a good reputation and likes the parents to be involved as much as they want and as I'm often with a friend as she picks up her daughter can assure you that I can't recollect huge [or for that matter] any parents congregating in any of the local boozers.
I'd be perfectly happy to recommend Woodseats as being a good place to live.

Just because the post didn't match up with your experience didn't mean it wasn't a valid perspective!

I'm sure that Woodseats has plenty going for it. However, when we asked the people who we knew had moved into the area in the last 4-5 years, most were happy with the amenities, but found that the area did seem to have a fair 'chav' population (not my turn of phrase).

Maybe your experience is different. I referred to that article as when we were house-hunting, it was one of the top hits I got after googling Woodseats, and it matched up with the feedback I'd had.

I know that we all get very proective of the area we live in, but there is absolutely no justification for unnecessary rudeness.

I still say the article you linked to had little basis in fact and as I've lived in Woodseats for over 25 years I think I'd of spotted a huge influx of chav's.
Admittedly the Big Tree and the Woodseats Palace [two of the pubs] do have at times a young clientelle but then at my age most pub goers look young but there is rarely any drunken rowdiness or vandalism, no burnt out cars on open land, no big gangs of kids hanging around and I don't feel anxious or threatened if i happen to be in the area after dark.
I can only say it as I see it as a resident

Traffic wise it's hell..

Very Good Bus Service, however you might have to wait up to 20 mins for the buses to get from one end of Woodseats to the other.

Best to have a car
