Funny that, bigsteve, I had a side parting now you come to mention it. :)

Mine was on the left-hand side, which side was yours on?

My mum used to enforce a wave in my hair, too, when I was a little lad, by means which I am too embarrassed to post on here :gag:

Apparently the left/right positioning is something to do with whether you are born with a clockwise or anti-clockwise crown of the hair.

I never knew about this personally until recently.

All the kids in my day had partings...... as did the actors in the older movies.

Bring on the Brylcreem..........:D

This guy (http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/universal_pictures/the_chronicles_of_riddick/marc_blucas/riddpred.jpg) occasionally sports one and he used to part his hair on the TV show BTVS (http://www.buffyuk.buffyfans.co.uk/Riley/Large/riley_05.jpg), but he looks so much better without it (http://cetara.tripod.com/bewaretheslayer/imgs/theguys/MB/mb_casual.jpg).
Side/Center partings are so 90's imo :hihi:
(Having said that, he does look yummy in the 1st pic)

Lots of girls have them. I have a centre part, cos I have long hair, but it sometimes goes off side. I presume you meant you never see them on men.

A bit off topic, but do blokes still carry a Comb around with them?

It used to be an essential item, as important as a handerchief when I was young.

Come to that, do blokes still carry a handkerchief?

Well, before I left school I knew of a couple of lads who carried combs but

Sadly, I'm afraid as far as my age goes, you're a total nerd who needs to have stones thrown at you if you carry a handkerchief.

Well Lotti, the advance of "tissues" makes handkerchiefs superfluous now, of course, unless you are attending a Wedding (Top Outer Breast Pocket Left Hand Side) or attend a function in Dinner Dress.

I have a comb somewhere in the house, haven't seen it for years, but it is lurking somewhere. It's no good to me now because I have a Grade 2 haircut. :)

Anyone seen the guys in grease? Carry combs? Not a hair out of place? Constantly making sure they look "good"?

Welcome to my school!

I thought you would have a laugh at that one.

Brylcreem, which I have never used, I hasten to add, was a factor of smartness around 60-70 years ago. All the blokes put it on then....like having an oilslick on your head really, I suppose.

It was strongly advertised when I was a kid when ITV first started in 1955.
(Black and White TV, of course).

The alternative at the time was some "Green-Coloured Grease" called Brilliantine, which was also the flavour of the day.

God knows how the wives in those days got it out of the pillowcases.....but then of course, Persil, Daz and Omo got a foothold in the Washing Powder Market :)

I will look up "Brilliantine" on Google at my leisure.

Watch this space....talk about Modern History............:D

My Dad's got a centre parting.

It's about 8 inches wide.

It has a certain "piquancy" and that's a fact....perhaps a bit of Brylcreem might add to the overall ensemble?
