There have been quite a lot of posts on this forum complaining about First South Yorkshire (and rightly so). However, what do people think about Yorkshire Terrier as a bus company. Are they better or worse than First?

Rich 26-03-2004, 14:58 I think they're better, at least their buses actually turn up when they're SUPPOSED to, not when the drivers can be arsed. hj dary 26-03-2004, 19:40 Might have the wrong end of the stick here , but Im sure Yorkshire Terrier belongs to the Yorkshire Traction group. I think recently, they were reported to, and ticked off by the transport commisioner for there poor performance They were complaints of busses not turning up and poor time keeping. Heard it on the radio I think. Not that it bothers me , mind as Im to lasy to wait for a bus and drive everywhere in my nice warm car... hahaha....lol munky 27-03-2004, 01:00 You laff in a smug mannor. . . so I assume that your happy to be a never ending source of income to the government and the system. . Personally I don't want a car and never have. I catch buses because I refuse to become a stereotypical car owner. . O.k they aint as good as they could be. . but it sure beats the hell outta paying for a car, insurance, road tax, petrol, maintainance, MOTing. . and the whole shebang that is the financial pain in the butt (known as a car) munky 27-03-2004, 01:02 and coming back to topic. . . Yorkie terrier drivers seem to be more human, with a personality and sense of humour. . some first mainline drivers look like they're worlds gonna end, just cos you stepped on their bus. . scatterheart 27-03-2004, 12:08 I'd say worse in that the routes I have used, they come only once an hour or so and stop really early evening. Although they do tend to come on time more than First. And they were handy when the First drivers were on strike last summer ;) jessycar 27-03-2004, 14:16 they are cheaper and quicker as they don't have to stop at every stop to let people with the FirstWeek, FirstMonth et al tickets on ;) tango2 27-03-2004, 16:50 They run an excellent service,if you want to become a passive smoker. There drivers will glady share their tab smoke with you anytime thats if you can peel yourself off the window as it corners at breakneck speeds. personally i never use use them, but on the rare occassions i have....not impressed Andy C 27-03-2004, 18:37 Well, here at Bradway we have Yorkshire Terrier running the 25 and First operate the 25A. I always prefer the Terriers because they are faster and less crowded. First's service is so painfully slow (can someone show the drivers where 2nd gear is please) and tends to be crowded, partly due to more passengers and partly due to less seats. Problem with Terriers is poor timekeeping (timetable probably too ambitious at rush hour) and the fact they stop running at 6pm. vothod 27-03-2004, 21:43 i agree. im sometimes not impressed with their timekeeping, especially when its busy. they seem to hardly ever come, then come in 3 in a row. i have to use the 120 because its the nearest direct link from home to school. Andy C 28-03-2004, 15:30 Terriers should probably build a little slack into the timetables, with standing times at both terminus and in town, giving them more chance to make up time if they get stuck in traffic. But then they would probably need more drivers and buses above the skeleton resource they currently use... slimsid2000 29-03-2004, 13:00 Originally posted by tango2 They run an excellent service,if you want to become a passive smoker. I have complained to the company several times about it but nothing ever seems to get done. GazB 29-03-2004, 13:12 Originally posted by munky Personally I don't want a car and never have. Passing my test is the best thing I've ever done, I couldn't live without a car. uncleheed 30-03-2004, 19:16 Originally posted by Andy C can someone show the drivers where 2nd gear is please) Buses have automatic gearboxes, otherwise the drivers would make somewhere in the region of 2000 gear changes a day jubby 30-03-2004, 20:23 Originally posted by jessycar they are cheaper and quicker as they don't have to stop at every stop to let people with the FirstWeek, FirstMonth et al tickets on ;) not on every route its cost 10p to get to town on the 49/49a yt than the 48 1st. plus thet don't run late (after 6pm i mean) or sundays and bank holidays. Less easy access buses than 1st. 1st do have their problems as I commented on the other thread, but I can get a pass with them that covers my shift patterns. Lucky I have a travel master so don't have to worry when one companies bus is missing. noseyrosie 30-03-2004, 22:18 Originally posted by Rich I think they're better, at least their buses actually turn up when they're SUPPOSED to, not when the drivers can be arsed. Guffaw! I wait soooo long for the 49 and 49a's. My mum's partner has just given up with them. They frequently miss them out, meaning that one of my friends who has to go to Parson Cross college has to walk miles because she has to get on the wrong bus. Saying that, has anyone met the amazing driver that does the Terrier routes? He did the 49a for the first time the other day, what a breath of fresh air! I had to run for the bus, but he waited, and when I got on and was fumbling for change, bus pass, etc, he said 'take your time love, don't worry' unlike most First drivers who would tut or chuck me off the bus normally. He took the ticket out of the machine for me, and when one of the passengers was standing up waiting to get off, he said 'hold on tight love, I don't want you to fall over'. He even told jokes to the bus passengers and told us to have a nice day when we got off. That kind of thing is free, and it made my day. Andy C 31-03-2004, 11:57 Originally posted by uncleheed Buses have automatic gearboxes, otherwise the drivers would make somewhere in the region of 2000 gear changes a day I can only assume they have a brick under the accelerator pedal then.... Yesterday it was brought home how expensive First bus is. A colleague of mine travelled with me from Brook Hill roundabout to the Old Grindstone at Crookes for the Wards launch, and travelled up on First's 52 and paid £1.10 single. On the way back we got a Yorkshire Terrier 52 and the same journey was 80p. The journey time on the Terrier was also much shorter... slimsid2000 02-04-2004, 15:42 To be fair they have undated pretty much all their fleet in recent years. Their buses used to be old and often dirty. They must have invested quite a lot in new buses. |
