It was called studio 5,6,7. and it showed XXX rated films......I was was only about ten at the time so never got to see any of them. But I did go and see Disney's Cinderella when I was really Young. And my parents telling how people queued to see the Sound of Music.1965 I think swanny 11-02-2006, 21:55 I'm afraid I only have embarrassing memories of the cinema on the Wicker. It was in the days before contact lenses and I was short-sighted. The first time I went I needed cheering up and intended to see 'Confessions of a Window Cleaner'. I accidentally saw 'I don't want to be born'. It took me a while to realise it wasn't making me laugh and therefore something had to be wrong! I made a second attempt and ended up with 'Last Tango in Paris'. Very embarrassing especially when I'd gone alone. I left well and truly before the end, Honest! Falls 12-02-2006, 00:12 Hi, I grew up on a street off the Wicker but only went to the the Wicker pictures. a few times. Many of the local kids I knew were banned by their parents from going there because of the type of films they used to show. Not all films but quite a few. I'm told that it didn't have an impressive beginning. My mother, who also grew up in the area, remembered it being built around WWI time. It may have been built as a cinema - with all that white stone/ plaster work out side - but before they could open for business, it was requisitioned for the war effort. I understand that it's early life was as a steel warehouse: Either for Balfour's, whose works were right behind the Wicker or for Osborne's up the street. WednesdayMad 12-02-2006, 16:44 Didnt that cinema on the Wicker used to be full of pervs? CHAIRBOY 12-02-2006, 16:50 Hi Swanny, I saw Confessions of a Window Cleaner there - Linda Bellingham! I was also there the night President Kennedy was shot, though I can't recall what film I'd seen. I certainly saw the film 'Goal 1966' there. willman 12-02-2006, 17:23 went to see caligula there. Bushbaby 13-02-2006, 11:47 At the age of 15 (I had to lie and say I was 16) I saw "Emanuelle" at the old Studio 7. It was glorious! One of the best cinematic experiences of my life. I saw it again recently on Sky - Rubbish! Can't believe it was the same film. Ah well! Some things improve with time, and some don't. Yellowrose 13-02-2006, 14:36 I remember riding past it on the bus when I was a teen and thinking that the Chesty Morgan film seemed to be there for ever, and how revolting the adverts looked. I also saw Annie Hall there amongst other films. Bushbaby 13-02-2006, 15:42 I made a second attempt and ended up with 'Last Tango in Paris'. ! Pass the butter..... surfinjim 26-02-2006, 17:59 Only ever went the once and that was to see Aliens, and it was still cinema 567 at that time.
