View Full Version : Last Mark & Lard Show
I am now listening to the last Mark and Lard show EVER on Radio 1.

(Well Phan FM doesn't seem to be working at the mo'.)
Sad day.
I don't have any reason to listen to Radio 1 any more. Except John Peel of course.
Sad day.

I'm listening to it too now (the first time I've listened to radio1 in a long time - and prob the last).
It's the end of an era - mark and lard are going to be sorely missed, as a duo anyhow.
Hmm. Yeah. Seems like they have carte blanche to play any music they like rather than the usual playlist stuff.
Which is nice.

I can't believe that it's not only their show that's ending, but also their partnership. Afternoon radio will never be the same again!
And I can't believe they just killed off Fat Harry White!
jackthedog 26-03-2004, 14:04 Despite me hating them, they've finished with a fantastic song!
jackthedog 26-03-2004, 14:05 Crazy, crazy nights.... yeeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was very funny and very sad.
The Mull of Kintyre thing had me in stiches.

Agent Dan 26-03-2004, 14:23 I'm in tears!! They've been my daily inspiration since as long as I can remember... radio1 has just lost it's best presenters... can't belive bloody colin and bloody edith are replacing them either... it's like swapping a leopard for a kitten...
I am gutted..had a lump in my throat as it ended...top way to sign off though...Its a rarity nowadays to listen to something totally original on the radio...Never known a show make you feel like the DJ's are 2 of your best mates..lost count of the number of times I have been sat at work with headphones on in stitches at some of the sketches. Afternoons will never be the same...sniff sniff.
Just heard there was a time of 'blank radio' after they stopped. Apparently they have to hand control over back to London..as a parting gesture they didn't so the emergency DAT kicked in..nice one!!

sorry nomme....Mull of f'Kintyre...genius
Agent Dan 26-03-2004, 14:28 I also enjoyed the travis tribute song and the last fat harry white - both side-splitting - as, of course, was their last forage into Lard's W-albums... Mull of F' Kintyre... pure comedy!
We will miss them.
Very sad indeed. I've been listening to them since they were doing the evening show in 95/96. They used to get away with loads on that show, then they switched to mornings which was nice to wake up to, then of course the afternoon show.......and I can't believe I've missed the last one.
Gutted! They were the only good thing about Radio One. Chris Moyles is too full of himself and is just plain abusive and Sarah Cox's laddette antics get on my wick. :(
keep your eyes peeled on Radio 1 website..I think they are doing a 'listen again' for the last show

Totally original? They've performed the same show day in day out for years!
Not bad for someone who doesn't like them but has listened to 'every' show for years!!!! :loopy:

When you work in an office and you're not the one who chooses what channel is played on the radio, you cant help but listen...
well someones got good taste. I meant original in comparison to other prime time radio shows. Can't think of anything on during the day remotely as entertaining or different. Most other radio shows are just full of drivel and mindless phone-ins for car stickers..naming no names. But I guess Mark and Lard wouldn't be to everyones taste...thats the beauty of choice...if you don't like it don't listen. Personally I thought they were the funniest thing on radio and have been for a long long time. Made my day on many occasions when things have been a bit crappy even going back to when they did the Graveyard Shift which was even funnier and entertaining
They were great on the graveyard shift - I remember staying up late (!) to listen to them.
When I first moved to Sheffield on my own, 19 and living in a dingy little cold bedsit, not knowing anyone, they were a godsend...I used to listen to the Graveyard Shift religiously every night...used to make my cry with laughter..It was like having 2 bessie mates keeping me sane and cheering me up.

I would completely agree... only I was about 15 and living at home still... although in a village in the middle of nowhere! definitely one of the funniest things ever - do you remember any characters? Always liked 'Ice Bucket' myself...!
The Reverand Lionel Blair, fancy a brew, the Barnsley Bard himself Ian Clayton who made regular guest appearances..as did the legend John Shuttleworth...they seem to stick out in my mind
oh and Tony McCarrolls classical gas...Tony McCarroll style drumming over classical music hits

they were fantastic and I now have no reason whatsoever to listen to Radio 1.
personal faves were Lard's Animal Sanctuary, 'is he placid?'
'hang on I'll just check............yes here's flaccid'
'Is it worth owt?'
and numerous catchphrases that entered my vocabulary.
Sadly missed.
Not gay or owt. ;)

M: Is that record hard to find?
L: Well in that condition yeh!
Colin and Edith get on my raving titties! Colin's intense accent grates on my ears and much as I like Edith, the two just don't go together.
A listener lost.
Of course its the same! But its always hilarious!! Sadly though i missed the last show, bloody lectures!!

That would be Ian McMillan I think - a fabulous poet and one of the funniest men alive! :)
