Longcol 09-02-2006, 10:04 PM Got to agree - he brought on players like Moore, Hurst and Peters helped us win the World Cup in '66. CHAIRBOY 10-02-2006, 09:57 AM I agree, too. Greenwood laid folly to the notion that you have to rant and rave, jump up and down, to be passionate about the game. I wish some of the present day managers could display the decorum shown by Greenwood. I possess a personal letter signed by Ron after sending him a tactical report of a Dutch international ahead of a fixture against England, He was most appreciative as I am for his contribution to the game. daverity 10-02-2006, 10:09 AM Although I never met the man, he always came over as being one of life's true gentlemen. As you say Chairboy some of the modern day managers would do well to adopt some of his decorum. His record as a manager at West Ham is the stuff of legend; consistently producing teams that played attacking, attractive football and making them a popular 'second team' to many fans throughout the country. A sad loss, RIP Ron. Tony 10-02-2006, 10:25 AM "We are Ron's 22, Hear the roar of the red white and blue." :) Sadly missed. Longcol 11-02-2006, 11:11 AM No doubt a lot of pub quizzes will be asking "which former England manager once played for Bradford Park Avenue". CHAIRBOY 11-02-2006, 02:26 PM Good one! I didn't know that but it's just been confirmed on a Football Focus tribute. You are viewing an archive. To view the actual thread click here: Sheffield Forum | |
