does anyone know if there is something wrong with the freeview tv at the moment in the S3 West One area?

Can't say I do, but it could be down to the power fluctuations at the moment, as the reduced current will affect the receiver. I work in the Church Army College next door to West One and our lights have been affected by these fluctuations on quite a random basis. Apparently it is to do with the substation that is covering the area whilst the usual one is down. They are hoping to have it up and running tomorrow (today) but we will see.

Is it possible to buy a Freeview box from anywhere and then test it, see what your reception is like, and if its no good, take it back for a refund? I live in S3 and when I typed in our postcode on the Freeview website they said most places in this area would need to upgrade their ariel

Sarah, yes - buy from Argos/Index. They're fine with you taking stuff back for any reason whatsoever within 2 weeks.

Wendy, what is the Church Army College? I've often wondered when walking past.

i know you are supposed to be able to take products back to Argos within 16 days of purchase, but when i bought my FreeView box a few weeks ago i was told that Freeview boxes are not covered by the 16 day thing!

go to dixons and get one and ask if it will work. they will probably say yes, then you can take it back if it does not.
make soure you have a reasonable digital aerial,
My frinds live out towards Dinnington and according to the web they cannot get freeview but they do, perfect picture and everything..

Well on the website it said that we might not get good reception due to most of the properties in this area being flats, however I think they are referring to the council flats all around here. The ones I live in are quite newly built and privately owned so maybe we'll stand a good chance. I might try Dixons then, but I'll make sure I check I can take it back first ;) I think it's awful that some shops expect you to buy it without having any idea whether or not you'll actually be able to use it, then not accept it back if you can't

Cheeky monkeys!

Index *do* allow you to take them back, but their returns policy says the goods must be "unused". Best to ask before purchase. Ummm how about John Lewis?

Can you see the top of Crookes from where you are? I've got line of sight to there and get good freeview reception with a loft arial. There was a thread on here a few months ago about who could get freeview where. The TV picture was always OK but not excellent before (fuzzy 5).

The only thing I can think of is asking a local independent retailer (eg Euronics on Ecclesall Rd/Crookes Rd), who may be more flexible. E.g. they might let you pay for it in cash, then borrow a display model for a couple of hours, swapping it/refunding according to your success.

Since this is a different subject from the thread I've pm'd you. If anyone else wishes to know the answer to this question let me know and I will start a new thread under general chat.
