View Full Version : Dog mess in Hillsborough park
crowefan 25-03-2004, 17:20 well I KNOW i SOUND LIKE VICTOR MELDREW, but am I one of the only responsible dog in the park that retreave their pooch's deposits in the few secreted tesco or netto (god forbid) carrier bags?
what is wrong with people? who let their straining pets leave dollops all over the place......should there be free bads left in dispensers? any ideas??
Sheffield council Animal Wardens issue £50 spot fines to anyone allowing thier dog to foul areas..without removing it.
If you have got the times and description of the people doing it let them know and they will get down there and catch em!
FairyNormal 25-03-2004, 17:45 It's not just Hillsborough Park either. Taplin Road is a nightmare. I have seen cars pull up, let their dogs out to mess on the pavement then drive off. I get sick of my kids treading in the mess.
The park is a nightmare. There don't seem to be any safe places for the kids to play in. It's not just the mess, it's the risk of disease that worries me.

Keep up the good work I say.
I agree, but at least the mutts have a facility to *ahem* do the business in Hillsborough Park, the shambolic public toilets in there are so disgustingly grotty that unless if I was absolutely busting for a wee or a number 2 I'd be relucant to use them.
Unfortunately the same can be said of almost every other public loo in Sheffield apart from ones within Department stores in Town or down at Meadowhell.
Plain Talker 25-03-2004, 20:11 I am a dog owner.
I always carry scoopy-bags with me, when I take my pooch out for a walk, even if the hound-dog has just been and relieved himself on the back garden.
I must be the only person who makes my dog "go toilet" on my own garden before a walkies.
I do not want other peoples dog poo on my wheelchair and/or me, personally, by way of my hands being on the wheelchair's wheels. (see my comments in the other thread on here, about dog mess)
I do not thank other folk for leaving their dog's S**t on the pavement to get it "Clarted" everywhere, and so, I don't leave my dog's S**t on the rare occasion he does it in the street, for others to be inconvenienced.
I thenk yew!

Sam Miguel 25-03-2004, 20:49 I really do hate dog crap more than anything else. It is evil stuff.
lol, i know a funny story but am not sure i should share it. The person in question may come on this site...
little malc 11-04-2004, 07:55 Before I left Sheffield, Longley Park had become nothing but a giant dog toilet, hoards of people would walk there dogs and I never saw anyone with a scoop or plastic bag, the council don't help by not providing dog-poo bins in the parks, another expense they can't aford I supose.
It is the councils new financial year now they have to spend thier money.Ring up and complain you may get some put in.If your in a local group why not sponsor a bin? There are Animal Wardens patrolling area's of Dog walking.
As you proberbly realise, some poor bu**er has to empty these bins. The lads who do it can also issue Fixed Penalty Notices to the offenders...What good job satisfaction!!
Moon Maiden 11-04-2004, 16:59 My sister in law takes her pup down to Hillsborough park for a walk, and if he should relieve himself I know she brings it back rather than leaving it in the park - so no you are not alone in cleaning up after your pet.

Ned Ludd 14-04-2004, 10:48 It's a city wide problem. I am always amazed by the quantities of excrement to be found on the City's football pitches when there's acres of greenery surrounding them. Is it deliberate? It's not being cleared up and it's being left where players are likely to end up rolling in it and where's a chance of it getting into cuts and grazes (leaving aside the stink of it and the fact that it gets on kit which has to be washed )
Some owners bag it up and then leave the carrier bag in the bushes as well, thereby preserving it for longer periods! It is to be hoped that curious kiddies aren't tempted to check them for contents!
I like dogs, it's the owners that are the problem.
Tower Hamlets have this wonderful motorised vehicle which allows the driver to douse offending t*rds with disinfectant before it's hoovered up into a large metal tank..Sheffield could do with some of these and the costs could come from fines meted out to recalcitrant pet owners.
I can remember back in my school days at Rivelin, we used the playing field across the other side of Morley Street that backs onto Watersmeet Road.
Fond memories of teachers pleading with folks not to crap their dogs a foot from where we were playing football.
For some reason the dog-walkers thought this an unfair inconvenience!
Rusted Root 14-04-2004, 13:37 Yup they really is no excuse for letting your dogs have a little poopalooza fest in the parks as the Town Hall gives out free mess bags to anyone who wants them.
I always clean up after my dogs. One thing that gets me though is if I have to clean up after my dogs then how come cats are allowed to crap in my backyard??
Whats wrong with house cats for crying out loud!! :(
bag of corks thats what i say :) having just cleaned the smellest oot in the world off my youngests shoe.. uggh
