Guderian 08-02-2006, 11:28 PM Reality bites for Liverpool fans.
Talk about delusions of grandeur.......
I sneaked a look at Liverpools fixtures a few weeks ago and came to the conclusion that they had some very hard games ahead (ie they had been playing easy ones!).
Hmmmm.
3 weeks later they have lost to Man United, Chelsea and Charlton. With Arsenal home and away to follow!
And no goals in the process.
Taxi!!!!!!
ANGELUS 09-02-2006, 01:09 AM It makes me chuckle as well.
As soon as Liverpool start doing well, the media and fans in the UK start harping on about Liverpool coming back to doing well again .. and then as per usual, it all goes tits up again.
Bless.
I have to laugh though :)
And now they have been linked with bringing Michael Owen back yet again..
smacks of desperation from Rafa I reckon.
wibbles 09-02-2006, 09:19 AM Ahh..I thought I recognised the foul stench of scum. It's funny because I wondered when you would have crawled out from your hole, having not heard from you during your recent dip in form and embarrasing defeats.
Yeah it's all gone tits up again...oh no..it's bad still being in the Champions League, FA cup and third in the league, whilst still being the European Champions for the 5th time....god forbid we have a dip in form.
I would save your chuckles for nearer the end of the season. If the positions remain the same then please feel free to post your manc whittlings but with you still having Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Bolton yet to play yourselves I wouldn't be too quick to goad.
I have to laugh at the thread title...are you a headline writer for the Daily Mail by any chance????

Can that be argued with.
Liverpool controlled the games against Scum, Chelsea and the first half at Charlton.
A couple of bad decisions by officials, some team mistakes, yes a goal drought; Liverpool Exposed ?
Have a word :hihi:
AtticusFinch 09-02-2006, 12:08 PM The season is nowhere near over yet. There's still plenty of time left in the Premiership to get second place. The FA cup is also available, and after all, in the fifth round we're not even playing a team that's in Europe. :hihi: :hihi:
*** Five times ***
Agent Gypo 09-02-2006, 12:20 PM It makes me so happy that Man Utd's best chance of a trophy is the league cup :hihi:
Guderian 09-02-2006, 06:18 PM Perspective!
Thast what I hope you dippers have learnt from the last 3 defeats.
Forget Gary Nevilles celebrations, forget Robben diving.
All this glossed over the fact that you havent scored in all 3 games, regardless of possession.
I reckon you might nip out and swoop for Rosenthal, Speedie and Jimmy Carter in the summer.
Guderian 09-02-2006, 06:19 PM It makes me so happy that Man Utd's best chance of a trophy is the league cup :hihi:
And what exactly is the dippers best chance of a trophy then?
ANGELUS 10-02-2006, 12:08 AM It makes me so happy that Man Utd's best chance of a trophy is the league cup :hihi:
Correction flower! We are in the running for 2 - thats 2 cups this season.
The league cup and the FA cup.

You can say 5 times as many times as you want.. you wont win it again :hihi:
Yes, your win last season was incredible and I dip my hat to liverpool FC for pulling it off but I'd like to see your lot do the same again.
averageman 10-02-2006, 07:36 AM This must be the same delusions of grandeur that Man Ure suffer from every season then.
Enjoy coming second to Wigan in the Carling Cup.

I think the current progress made by both clubs in the Champions League puts Liverpool with an ever so slightly better chance than Manchester United of winning it again this season...don't ya think???
We can say it as many times as we want??..ok then..5 times..that's a record the likes of Manchester Utd can only dream of...remember that European Cup you won in '99...thanks for keeping it warm for us now that we own it and it's ours to keep.

That may be true about this season- but realistically- do you think that you will be in the final again this season?
I dont think so.
The champions league we won in '99 - was special - because at that time, we were the best team in the UK which liverpool arent, we were the best team in europe and arguably the best team in the world that year.
Liverpool fluked a win last season- thats all.
All your lot is going back to is when you were decent years ago and you have been living in the shadow of yourselves ever since.
We have been decent for a long time mate- and still are.
Thats the difference.

Liverpool fluked it??....lets look at the facts about our 'fluked Champions League victory'
Beat the Premiership Champions, beat the Italian Champions, beat the Italian League runners-up...how fluky was that??!!!!!....as for not being the best team in the Uk that year..what the hell has that got to do with it???...we won it fair and square beating all the teams put in front of us. Your fluke comment is scraping the barrel I'm afraid and what's termed in the real world as ********.
If you are still so decent then why aren't you still in the Champions League??
Yes you have been decent for a long time but as most people with common sense know, these things come and go...your period of 'decentness' was well deserved as was Liverpool's prolonged period of greatness but if anyone has to open their eyes then it's you..you ain't the top dog anymore, as neither are Liverpool but you aren't that much better than us as League positions show. In fact there are many similarities between the two.

I don't take issue with Man Utd's progress and their position..they are second in the League which is no mean achievement, in the Carling Cup final, and still in the FA cup. Now I for one will never lower myself to the opinion that the Carling Cup is a Mickey Mouse cup (even though that's all we got from Man U fans when we beat them) because it's a trophy at the end of the day and when you are struggling to win things it can be a good little boost.

You mancs are on the slide and you know it. In case you've forgotten, you've finished third three times in the last four seasons. Last season you won nothing. Would that have happened during the 90s? You're no closer to winning the league than we are, and you know it. Apart from Shrek, you have mediocrity throughout your side. But we were in a group with Barcelona and Bayern that year and were unbeaten.
We knocked out Inter and Juve on the way to the final.
We played the final with a team containing Nicky Butt, and Jesper Blomqvist.
We won.
What has Jonathan Greening got that Robbie "Five Fingers" Fowler hasnt?
A EUROPEAN CUP WINNERS MEDAL.
Add David May to that.
FunkyHouse 10-02-2006, 04:47 PM It makes me so happy that Man Utd's best chance of a trophy is the league cup :hihi:
Happy? I am ecstatic, all I have to say as Robbie Fowler pointed out when City beat United in the last few months F-I-V-E....
Liverpool are a very good work in progress, and once we have a decent scorer then we will be sincerely in contention, until we rid ourselves of Crouch, Cisse (OMG how crap is he?? and a woman beater too-get rid) and get ourselves a decent finisher we wont get near.
If we had top-class finishers like Rooney and Van Nistelroy, the league would be ours....

Valid point I suppose, but obviously misguided to compare the likes of WBA Greening (IS he still alive??), and David May to Robbie Fowler - one of the Premiership's all time top scorers and one of the sweetest left foot strikers that has been around for time......okay, so he is fat, but give the fella a break, its all the kebabs he's been eating in Manchester...;-)

Na, you're MAIN problem is your manager. He should have retired, but nooooo he couldn't handle not being in the limelight.
He's had an excellent recent track record of midfielders hasn't he ?
He'll probably blow another 30 million on flops and then leave for 'personal' reasons.
oh and A shaved Smith, doesn't make a Keane :)

You fluked it - plain and simple.
You came back 3-0 down at halftime and went on to win- fair play to you  .. we didnt have to even do that.. we won in the last 2 mins of the game which I find more incredible seeing as how the CL cup was on its way down to the front of the stadium with Bayern colours on it in 1999.
I still congratulate you though- I had money on Milan to win and was singing and dancing till half time and then I watched one of the best fightbacks I have ever had the pleasure to see- which pains me being a MU fan.
But what a match!
You also beat chelski with a flukey goal which apparently now didnt go over the line- but what the hell- you beat chelski which is good enough for me
We are not in the CL very true- as we had been beat by the team you will now face- good luck to you, as Benfica are not pushovers as I think you will find in a short while from now.
Our period of decentness is still there, its just that we need a few more players particularly in midfield to sort us out- and then its happy days all the way again for us- you cant surely compare us to the liverpool slump of ages ago surely?
There is also nowt wrong with the carling cup - I will enjoy watching the match as winning any silverware is good news in my book!
Questionable signings:
DD - Agreed :)
Forlan - He was good when he came to us, he wasnt really right for us though- but still fair play to the bloke, he left us and went to spain and he is doing fab over there.
Taibi - I liked the guy, it was only when he cocked up spectacularly that one time and everyone jumped on him and ripped his confidence to pieces.. that was the end of him. He could have been a great for us if we had give him more time.
And finally ..
In fact there are many similarities between the two.
2-3 world class players

So let me get this straight- you are saying that liverpool have 2-3 world class players in your side??
(I nearly coughed up a lung laughing while reading that statement)
You have ONE - make it ONE - world class player in your side and thats StevieG.
We have on my count 5 world class players in ours being - Big Ed, Rio, Ronaldo, Ruud and of course the scouse wonder and saviour of english football Wayne Rooney.
Our 'mediocre' squad players are better than yours, our 'potentials' are miles better than yours, our 'decent' keeper is a million years better than yours, and our 'dodgy' keeper was the best keeper in the league up until 1-2 years ago.. not many differences there then between the 2 teams eh!
Our stadium is better than yours, we have more fans around the world, our business is more profitable- shall I go on boring you :)
ANGELUS 11-02-2006, 01:07 PM You mancs are on the slide and you know it. In case you've forgotten, you've finished third three times in the last four seasons. Last season you won nothing. We are 'rebuilding' our defence and midfield- thats all it needs before we are back at the top again- watch this space.
We have been coming in a crap position- agreed- but to say your lot are on a par with us to winning the league- dont even tread that path.
You are not even near us in that respect, you cock it up year after year and every year I hear the same old bleating about a liverpool 'revival' - it aint going to happen.
So- on your count as well then, Rooney is the only decent player we have?
Because I think our squad is a LOT better than yours... by a countrymile as well.
We have one of the world- hell - if not the best striker in the world in Ruud and we have the worlds biggest talents in Rooney and Ronaldo.
We have the worlds most expensive defender in Rio and also one of the most talented goalkeepers ever in Edwin Van Der Sar.. but your still better than us- right?
WRONG- very very WRONG.
You may still be in europe- hell - you may even retain (which you wont) but we shall wait and see wont we.. I would advise your lot that Benfica are good enough to beat you- but we shall see.
ANGELUS 11-02-2006, 01:15 PM We knocked out Inter and Juve on the way to the final.
Remember also Guderian, that Juventus has not been beaten at home in europe for nearly 30/40 years as well before we came and sorted that out for them

I hope not - I am feeling very confident about the match though.
Prediction from me- either 1-0 or 2-1 to us - Ruud will play a big part!

Just checking out teletext for the latest team news.
Liverpool have to decide to recall Jose Reina or keep faith with Jerzy Dudek (Dont do it - you know what happens when we play against Liverpool with Dudek in the net!!) Peter Crouch is a doubt with a heel problem, Fowler (cup-tied)- the rest of the fitness concerns are Warnock, Agger and Kromkamp.
Unfortunately for Liverpool fans
We have a clean bill of health and big ed is back in the net- and giggs back on the sidelines if we need him.
Gary Neville will also be in the starting lineup
Its going to be good!!

ANGELUS 18-02-2006, 01:26 PM Just heard another fascinating fact from MOTD
Apparently, Liverpool have not been Man United since 1921 in the FA Cup- is this true?
And liverpool have Dudek in the net- oh dear!
Thats 2-0 to Utd then.

banjopaul99 18-02-2006, 05:02 PM Yes reality has bitten again that liverpool are still a dominat force. LIVERPOOL 1 MANCHESTER UNITED 0 not a fluke, but a well won game.
FunkyHouse 18-02-2006, 09:34 PM Stevie G, is world class, along with Hyppia and Carragher, Stevie Finnan is a great right back and one of the best in the premiership, as is Riise at left back/midfield. Alonso is a superb midfielder too.
Morientes, agreed is not the player he once was, at both Monaco and Real, but if he settles and regains form, he has the potential to be world class again, his stint at Monaco cannot be ignored.
As for United, Van Nistelroy (fantastic c/f) Rooney (a god), Ferdinand?? dodgy form this season, but a great player, not yet world class though. Giggs is past it, as is Scholes, Ronaldo is not world class although he has played well in the last few games. Van Der Sar, solid enough but world class?? hmmm.
Silvestre is c***, Evra the new signing looks suspect, as does Vidic, but to be fair players need time to settle in. Smith (hope he recovers to play again), Park, Fletcher!!!!!! give me a break. Fletcher the next Keane, I dont think so. Not sure there is that much to set the two teams apart, LFC just need striker's who score regularly, when we have that we will certainly be challenging for the title on a realistic basis, that may be a while though!!
:hihi:

Not to take too much shine off your win today- the 'goal' you scored went in off a post after a lucky roll along the line, then went in off the post.
It was the luckiest goal I've seen all season.
But the result stands and we are out of the FA Cup so fair play to liverpool.
Liverpool looked solid today and well deserve the 3rd place spot behind us this season :)
We need to sort out midfield out ASAP - we should have sorted it out in the january transfer window but we cocked it up, and now smith is out for the season at least... we look very light in midfield now and its catching up with us.
I read through your points but a few things stuck out for me that I disagree with- Ferdinand is a world class CB when he can be arsed, Ronaldo is world class when he can be arsed to turn up and play as well, Van Der Saar has been a world class GK for a long time now- he does make some weird decisions sometimes but otherwise I think he is easily a replacement for Schmeichel- if only we could have got him earlier as well.
Evra and Vidic - they need to be given time, but from the look of them, they will do very well for us and I like Parkie as well- he's a very quick intelligent player who links us up well.. a good signing who will get better in the future no doubt.
FunkyHouse 18-02-2006, 11:41 PM I think the lucky goal?? was well deserved, it went in off the post because Van Der Sar knocked it on to his left hand post from a well directed strong header from Crouch (which is amazing in itself because he is c*** IMO).
Good points about your players, I still believe however that my points were valid, and I will stick with them, at least until the mentioned players prove me wrong (I for one hope, with the World Cup coming up, Ferdinand will do just that).
I had a fiver on the game with a work colleague (Man Utd fan) so I am pleased about the result (the money doesn't matter, but makes up for me losing a tenner on poker last night :hihi: ).
I was talking with a guy from Salford in the pub last night and he seems to believe Ballack and Nolan are coming in the closed season. I thought that was very interesting, particularly with Nolan being a life-long LFC fan.
All to look forward to this year with the World Cup, and an interesting closed season in terms of transfers, and games coming up such as Barca v Chelsea which should be a cracker (my intention is not to "have a go at Man Utd" now they are out of the Cup btw).
Ultimately the FA Cup can really only offer LFC the chance of a reprieve from the (honestly) quite humiliating defeats at the hands of Chelsea in the league -where it matters. As Ferguson suggested: "The games between Manchester United and Liverpool are the biggest derbies in the country", and to his credit he admited how he hoped LFC wouldn't beat Man Utd in the Cup for another 85 years. Just showing the significance of every winning game for either side.
However, with no league for an increasing amount of time (for LFC), as supporters it makes us feel sad, not because we aren't winning it exactly, more because league winners know when their team are top-dogs, you can see it on the field and it is extremely entertaining for those who shelve out a fortune un season tickets or occasional games. The European Cup win was a momentary glimpse of the resiliant and free-scoring team that Benitez has created (albeit with many of Houlliers signings), but the league is still some way off.
As many Man Utd supporters may agree:confused:  the team of the 90's with Beckham, Giggs, Scholes:hihi: (one of my favourite players of the last twenty years incidentally) is yet to be reproduced, and is currently nowehere near to winning the league than LFC are. FA Cup games come and go, winning it is undoubtedly fantastic, but as Shankly always said "the league is our bread and butter".
We are a bit short of yeast at the moment, so winning the league is someway off....
venger 19-02-2006, 10:42 AM Deserved win, shame about Smith, Wes Brown saved utd several times as did VDS.
Which bit of the goal was lucky ? Hypia on standby afetr a brilliantly placed header.
Zafar 20-02-2006, 12:04 PM I hope not - I am feeling very confident about the match though.
Prediction from me- either 1-0 or 2-1 to us - Ruud will play a big part!
Hey Angelus,
Your confidence was misplaced, Ruud played no part whatsoever but the score was 1-0 :hihi:
Man U need some serious :help: :help: :help:
Z
priggers 20-02-2006, 02:26 PM very happy still. although i have seen us play better, it was enough to see off a poor utd that struggled to keep the ball at all. i am in manchester now, its great to see the misery in my colleagues faces. the future looks dim with no obvious hope of revival. come on wigan.
Guderian 20-02-2006, 03:03 PM Revival? We are 2nd, you are third!
Over 3 games this season, the agg score was 1-1!!!
Doesnt that suggest level pegging?
I believe Liverpool are getting carried away.
priggers 20-02-2006, 05:33 PM well, its obvious that utd are underperforming and are in need of a revival thats all. i am not getting carried away. it may be 1-1 on agg but i am just happy its another competition you arent in.
CHAIRBOY 21-02-2006, 10:39 PM Benfica game - Yet another set-piece goal! Where are they going to get two goals from?
You die-hards can say what you like, I find them most unconvincing.
ANGELUS 21-02-2006, 11:16 PM Oops... the great europeran champions who beat us have just gone down to that 'apparently crap' team that beat us...
Mmmm Benfica must not be that crap after all then eh!
I'm waiting for the liverpool fans to come onboard and say how good a team benfica are now!
Is it me- or do we look like having another porto on our hands in benfica?
Possibly.. I wouldnt write them off at the minute.
I did that with porto and look what happened.

Well I won't...Benfica are crap and they reinforced that last night, they were there for the taking but as is usual when Steve Gerrard isn't playing no-one took the game by the scruff of the neck and a Liverpool goal let alone a win would have been a miracle given the service the front 2 were getting.
I have a sneaky suspicion about Arsenal..look at the comparisons between Arsenal this season and Liverpool last season
1. 5th in the league with their nearest rivals suprisingly taking up the other champions league qualifying position
2. Knocked out of all cup competitions and a long way behind the leaders
3. Their star player not sure if he is going to stay or go
I wouldn't be suprised to see Arsenal in the final

lol you're not by any chance looking for consolation in the false belief that you guys got knocked out by the eventual winners ?
I'll give you an update after the return leg :)
ANGELUS 22-02-2006, 04:55 PM Well I won't...Benfica are crap and they reinforced that last night.
I dont think they are - they beat the reigning champions, thats not crap in my book.

I think Arsenal will have it hard in the next game- I think Real will beat them and advance.. I cant see Arsenal in the final.
Its Barcelona vs Juventus for me at the moment.

Nope, although we did lose to Porto a few years back and they ended up winning the cup at the end.. history might be repeating itself in Benfica, who knows!
Guderian 22-02-2006, 05:13 PM Benfica ARE crap and Liverpool will progress, only to be shamed in the next round.
Real Madrid are also crap -Arsenal have won the tie.
Chelsea will beat Barcelona.
This may all sound like i am being nationalist - not so - I would like nothing more than for all 3 teams to go out!
And yes, i am bitter.

1. Benfica are a lot better than people would give them credit for
2. Real are not crap and will come back to win Arsenal in the next game
3. Barcelona beat Chelski tonight as I have been predicting for months and will also beat them in the Nou Camp as well.

I would rethink all of that tripe.
Guderian 23-02-2006, 09:53 AM I would rethink all of that tripe.
Why?
Ok, Chelsea seem in trouble, but who knows what would have happened if it weren't for the sending off.
I believe Pool will overcome a weak Benfica side and Real Madrid leak goals away from home.
banjopaul99 17-03-2006, 05:44 AM Yes liverpool are certainly struggling but i did notice in there last game they put a few class goals in the net.
