I will soon be trying out salsa dancing (just once at first).

I was wondering if anyone else has done it and what is it like. What can I expect?

Cheers

Yes. Its more difficult than you think, but its a laugh. Get a Ricky Martin cd for practice at home! We learnt to "She Bangs!". Faster than those on BBC trailer...

Try the Cubana on a Saturday afternoon - beginners sessions at 1:30. If you fall over your feet (like I do!) - you're in good company!

Is it a dance where you dance with a partner or not?

Also, how sexy is it?

Yup you dance with a partner and depending on who you're dancing with, it can be sexy ........or not!!

Yes we all learnt with partners, but there were some girls that went with other girls. It can be as sexy as you make it ...

I learnt the steps in bits, week by week adding a bit more. I really wish we had kept it up, but the course was so many weeks long and a few weeks into it I got ill and couldnt finish it. Also my bloke kept saying I was doing it wrong and I wasnt, it was him!!!

Are you honestly going Salsa dancing, Sid? I have almost scalded myself with tea whilst laughing. You will stop at nothing to press your body up against women.

Yes Slimsid - put up a poll asking "Should I go salsa dancing?"

Like timo, I almost had an accident laughing at your post.

Does anyone know of any other Salsa classes in Rotherham or Sheffield that aren't on a Saturday afternoon. Our little girl goes to dance class then so we can't make it. It's taken me ages to blag my fellas head into going with me.

Sid, old fruit, it is not that Salsa itself is risible though some might find it so. It is the image of your good self lecherously and lasciviously gripping the hips of a young woman and gyrating to the Latin-American rhythms of Tito Puenti which causes amusement. As I said previously, you will stop at nothing in order to press your body against women, you sly fox!

I go to a class in chesterfield with my girlfriend. Its a great way of meeting someone if your single because you get to change partners to dance with for each song if you want. Introduce yourself to each new partner, if you do something wrong say something funny or cheeky to her and your well away!

The one I go to there are more women than men and they queue up waiting for the next man to become available to dance with. Its definately a good place to pull I reckon.
