View Full Version : How often do you clean your shoes?

I have to admit that dirty shoes are one of my pet hates. I think that mucky shoes says 'slack person'.

I think that it stems back to my childhood when we used to have 'shoe shine' inpections in assembly.

We all had to line up while the headteacher walked down the line inspecting to see if we hadpolished our shoes. God help anybody who hadn't!

I used to be the one who ended up with filthy marks at the back of my long white socks where I had stood rubbing the front of each shoe on the back of the opposite leg.

I know that loads of people now wear trainers but if you wear leather shoes do you ever clean them with polish or is it an outdated activity. I still polish mine rigorously on a regular basis.

You mean you can actually clean shoes? Wow, I just thought that was a sign they needed replacing. What a fool I've been all these years, just think of the money I could have saved.

You wear white trainers? *snigger* You're not from Essex are you?!

I clean my work shoes about once a week, and smart shoes for going out in about once a month... don't clean trainers but do put them through the washing machine once in a while.

before anyone takes offence, I'm from Essex and am therefore allowed to comment - :p

Yup! ditto.
I have work shoes, but theyre always at work and so dont need cleaning cos I dont wear them out. If trainers get way too mucky and smelly then I'll lob em in the washer
I am obscenely protective of my Red Dr Ms and my Kill Bill yellow Tiger Asaics tho and get the Mr Muscle Orange stuff to clean them!
As for my New Rocks Im thinking of getting rid of em cos they're too much hassle!

Work shoes are safety boots, and dont get cleaned. Everyday shoes are vans, and dont really need cleaning. And "smart" shoes probably only get worn once a year so they just get a rub over with a cloth to get the dust off, and thats it.

I've got around 10 pairs of trainers, barely cleaned any but none are totally scruffy..

My work shoes I've had for nearly 2 years and they've been cleaned once (by my Dad).

Don't understand the thread. What are the words, 'clean' and 'shoes' doing in the same sentence?

Maybe so, but if you can't be arsed to keep your 'visible' bits clean then I don't hold out much hope for your covered bits....yuk

Never clean shoes, can't be bothered, too much trouble, waste of valuable time, stupid pastime, no polish, don't want any, there should be shoe shiners in Sheffield same as New York and that would solve my problem.

I used to shoe-shine when I was in the scouts, wasnt much of a market for it i'm afraid. My dad cleans mine without me even asking!!

Nobody does. Nor do we have to brush our teeth, change our undies, comb our hair etc etc, but most of us do because we like to be clean (and others like us to be also).

I've got some Ugg boots which i was worried about cleaning, so i've been using protector spray on them for ages. It did actually prevent them getting water marks, despite the fact that i walked through snow in them! But now i've finally had the guts to buy some suede cleaner, and i use that with a sponge and they've come up brilliant. I clean them about once a fortnight now, and then spray the protector on after. I got the cleaner from a website called shoestring. I've always got the spray from there as well. :)

I mostly wear shoes that can be bunged into the washing machine, although when I need to scrub up, I have a pair of DMs which get polished as and when. Walking boots usually just get banged together to remove loose mud and sheep doodah.

I never clean my shoes. I am married. Why have a dog and bark yourself?
