View Full Version : Hip hop heads, who is your favourite rapper? Bellacboy 05-02-2006, 02:19 ??? Mine's Aesop Rock or MF Doom. What about you? riot187tns 05-02-2006, 05:20 MF Doom is sick, man. I was listening to the Vic Vaughan LP earlier. Something like "put me on because I'm hungry, spit something thick on the mic, kinda like a lungy". Sick. Ghostface is bad, too. Ill Bill / Non Phixion. J-Live, Chester P Hackenbush, Buck 65, Skinnyman, Rodney P! ****, there's too many that's all good, but it just depends what mood yer in. Posdnous is bad, too. Good thread. What's happening with Hoods Underground anybody? Beakerzoid 05-02-2006, 08:24 Gimme Chuck D, Rakim, or Ice T over any modern rappers anyday. venger 05-02-2006, 09:52 Guru from Gangstarr rules, check out a full clip !!!!! melthebell 05-02-2006, 10:30 ice t - the darker stuff the better rakim krs1 chuck d mc pitman ..........*errrrrrm gets coat* spyro2000 05-02-2006, 12:51 Old skool all the way. Its all about Biggie, melthebell 05-02-2006, 13:03 Old skool all the way. Its all about Biggie, nah tupac :) oh yeah i forgot rahzel in my previous post too spyro2000 05-02-2006, 13:20 Tupac is alright, but hes made so many tunes, hes bound to havesome decent ones. People forget that hes got a load of crap tunes too. Krs1, I used to love him back in the day. Especially the classic 'Step into a world' Ive never liked Ice T, in fact id say I think he is schyte. MTheo 05-02-2006, 13:21 john barnes on the liverpool song melthebell 05-02-2006, 13:28 T Ive never liked Ice T, in fact id say I think he is schyte. try some of his really dark hardcore tracks then, and most tell full stories in a song instead of verse chorus verse thats also why i like eminem and the streets Ginner 05-02-2006, 15:30 For me, KRS-One, Chuck D and Eminem are untouchable for their styles and lyrics. I never, ever 'got' Biggie. His stuff just sends me to sleep. el_bonita 05-02-2006, 16:03 Taboo from the black eyed peas rules he's the 1 with the long hair and he's abssolutely gorgeous spyro2000 05-02-2006, 16:23 Taboo from the black eyed peas rules he's the 1 with the long hair and he's abssolutely gorgeous HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :hihi: But seriously, who is the best rapper? GazB 05-02-2006, 16:51 DMX is my overall favourite. Then albums by: Young Buck Shyne 50 cent (he might be pretty commercial now, but Get Rich or Die Tryin' is a quality album). Mobb Deep (older days). A few others that have slipped my mind. Are all mint  spyro2000 05-02-2006, 16:54 I agree with DMX, the man is a legend. woof woof. 50 cent though, Personally I think he is a lowsy rapper, but he has some killer tunes. So I do like his tunes, but not because of his rapping. GazB 05-02-2006, 17:01 Heat, and Ski Mask Way are my favourite tunes by 50 Cent.. Quality. DMX has put out so much quality material, I can't decide which are my best songs! Probably Slippin'. Lucretia_73 05-02-2006, 17:35 Mos Definately Mos Def. And I love Ice Cube's voice - he just sounds so sulky all the time - I can imagine him as a little kid pouting like Arnold in Different Strokes. Probably not the image he wants to project... Uncle_G 06-02-2006, 09:07 Roots manuva, Braintax, Jhest, dizzie rasclart, carl hindes, skinny man. but for me, it has to be, the notoriuos big went to see hoodz underground a couple of years ago at the boardwalk on snigg hill, I don't think they have done owt since their single "hard copy" Uncle_G 06-02-2006, 09:09 [QUOTE=Lucretia_73]Mos Definately Mos Def. QUOTE] I was a fan until I bought his new album "the new danger" absolute crap! stussonicos 06-02-2006, 11:55 I don't really listen to much Hip Hop these days, but in my youth I was really into it. One or two favourties were; Mos Def Chuck D Gunshot (for kicking off the British Scene, sounded really raw too) Fu Schinickens (spelling?? - craziest style every) KRS One Buckshot Shorty Beastie Boys Redman Roots Manuva - still doing very good stuff Lucretia_73 06-02-2006, 12:19 Mos Def's The New Danger has it's moments. There is some overdone stuff on there. I read a review of it before it was released saying he was trying too hard to show how clever and cutting edge he is and had crawled up his own backside. Hardly the first artist to be accused of that though. There are some good tracks on it. Sex Love and Money, Freaky Black Greetings etc. Not as accessible as Black on Both Sides which is a top album, and the jury is still out on his Black Jack Johnson stuff. venger 06-02-2006, 12:29 Sure Roots Manuva, Ugly Duckling are cool also. Uncle_G 06-02-2006, 12:47 Mos Def's The New Danger has it's moments. There is some overdone stuff on there. Sex Love and Money, Freaky Black Greetings etc. Not as accessible as Black on Both Sides which is a top album, and the jury is still out on his Black Jack Johnson stuff. I'll give you sex, love and money (not litterally) but it was ok... and I totally agree with the bit about him crawling up his own arse!! true! but for me he was tryin to be too new with that album when he should of kept what he had from the lyricist lounge days when him and faroe monche were tearing it up.. all the heavy guitar riffs and all that!! I ended up throwing that cd out of my window on the motorway after being so appauled with it.. he should have kept it real! Kthebean 06-02-2006, 13:01 My favourite 'rapper' is Chali 2Na from Jurrasic 5 and Ozomatli fame, he has a lovely deep voice that makes me all goose bumply. spyro2000 06-02-2006, 13:34 I know they are not lyrically up to the standards of Biggie, Pac, Eminem et al, but I have really liked people like Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes, also I am really into Ludacris, the man has got some killer tracks. Lucretia_73 06-02-2006, 13:46 I'll give you sex, love and money (not litterally) but it was ok... and I totally agree with the bit about him crawling up his own arse!! true! but for me he was tryin to be too new with that album when he should of kept what he had from the lyricist lounge days when him and faroe monche were tearing it up.. all the heavy guitar riffs and all that!! I ended up throwing that cd out of my window on the motorway after being so appauled with it.. he should have kept it real! Just the money is fine by me :) Yeah he started singing...I hate it when rappers try to sing. It's not right! I like the stuff he did in Blackstar w/ Talib Kweli. Wish there was more of it. Just been flipping thru the tracks at lunchtime and I meant Champion Requiem instead of Freaky Black Greetings. That's kind of the problem with that album - daft titles and the tracks often become much of a one-ness. Lucretia_73 06-02-2006, 13:49 I know they are not lyrically up to the standards of Biggie, Pac, Eminem et al, but I have really liked people like Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes, also I am really into Ludacris, the man has got some killer tracks. Slum Village Foreign Exchange Mos Def (yep - that album was crap apart from Love Sex and Money) Talib Kweli amongst others... *Not a fan of British rap. *ducks down, awaits barrage of disgust* :) Uncle_G 06-02-2006, 14:56 I can see why you dont like uk rap, most of it is embarrasing beyond belief but give Roots manuva a chance man, I thell thi..... p.s nice list! johnbradley 06-02-2006, 15:08 kool keith is class, and mental with it krs1 and rakim are also legends, along with most of the older mcs already mentioned never really got into tupac/biggie, eminem is quality about a third of the time, and the bloke before is right about the mighty ice-t all you have to do is get a copies of 'Power', 'The Iceberg' and of 'O.G' and 'Rhyme Pays' if you like those big old drum machine beats and bad sound quality! the geezer has made some right duff-uns, but some classics also;) did someone mention gunshot? takes me back, razor delivery and raw beats! and on the british side of things, just got a smart double ep by Verb T and Kashmere, verb's rhyme on 'ravenous' kills it Booch 06-02-2006, 15:09 I can see why you dont like uk rap, most of it is embarrasing beyond belief but give Roots manuva a chance man, I thell thi..... p.s nice list! To me, UK Rap doesn't 'flow' like our cousins over the pond! Admittedly, RM has got the voice, but skills... Hmmm. Thank you...:) more to be listed, when I get home and start diggin the crates! spyro2000 06-02-2006, 15:34 Gotta say that im also not a fan of UK Rap, apart from some of Dizzee Rascals tracks, but he has a certain unique sound when he is doing rap. NATA5HA 06-02-2006, 15:54 I love Eminem, he is sooo sexy and he writes like a poet  De La Soul's AOI: Mosaic Thump is a brilliant albumn! And I think Held Down off AOI: Bionix is my favourite rap song of all time :) Old Skool I love Ugly Duckling, A little Samba has me shaking my ass everytime ;) and Snoop's only decent albumn, Doggystyle... xx spyro2000 06-02-2006, 16:04 aaaah, now how could I forget Snoop. Another Hip Hop Legend. His style is so laid back and chilled. Booch 06-02-2006, 16:10 aaaah, now how could I forget Snoop. Another Hip Hop Legend. Doh! Me too. :) Common and Nas for Life affirming rhymes/beats. NATA5HA 06-02-2006, 16:11 He is a good rapper but apart from Doggystyle I prefer him guesting on other peoples tracks. His track with my future hubbie, John Legend, was brilliant!!! I forgot about Lucy Pearl too. They are brilliant! and I seen this cute rapper in Sheffield called Sugar or something xx Booch 06-02-2006, 16:20 I forgot about Lucy Pearl too. They are brilliant! Not strictly a Rap group, more of a super-collaboration that ended in the usual ego-bashing, arguments and tears. Raphael Saadiq - from Tone, Toni, Tony = multi talented producer, singer, songwriter. Ali Shaheed Muhammed - from A Tribe called Quest = again, multi talented. Dawn Robinson - from En Vogue = powerful singer indeed. Excellent super-group that had it 'goin on', and should've stayed together. :( Uncle_G 06-02-2006, 16:20 NAS! they just keep coming, his early stuff was amazing! especially the album: "it was written" ......... byowtiful NATA5HA 06-02-2006, 16:39 Thanks Booch, I knew they were a "super group" but I didnt know the members. I just remembered there is a rapper in Sheffield calld Precise who is brilliant! Booch 06-02-2006, 16:40 Thanks Booch, I knew they were a "super group" but I didnt know the members. No probs! Kthebean 06-02-2006, 18:26 To me, UK Rap doesn't 'flow' like our cousins over the pond! Admittedly, RM has got the voice, but skills... Hmmm. Booooooooooooooooo........ Bellacboy 06-02-2006, 18:45 Glad to see my thread is thriving. My top 5 rap albumswould probably be; Funcrusher Plus - Company Flow (no-ones mentioned them yet. Rawkus wouldn't be what it is today if it hadn't been for these chaps) Float - Aesop Rock Madvillain - Madvillainy Gangstarr- Step in the arena Non prophets - hope. I can't think of many old ones at the moment but I'm sure I will. I suppose gangstarr and the co flow one are getting on a bit now although it seems like yesterday. My number 6 would probably be illmatic (nas) Ginner 06-02-2006, 21:00 I can't think of many old ones at the moment..... My faves are all old ones: Public Enemy - Yo! Bum rush the show Cypress Hill - Black Sunday Boogie Down Productions - Criminal Minded & By All Means Necessary & Sex and Violence Ice T - O.G. The Sindecut - Changing The Scenery (British group, circa 1990 - not strictly speaking Hip Hop I guess) Few and far between are the hip hop albums I can listen to in their entirety over and over again. I tend to find an artist produces a couple of killer tracks but the rest of the album is toss. spyro2000 06-02-2006, 21:19 Of course Ginner. Cypress Hill, Another legend I failed to mention. Black Sunday is a classic album, and there isnt much better out there imo. And B Real has such a unique voice. Absolute quality. Booch 06-02-2006, 21:24 Booooooooooooooooo........ Oh, boo ya'self!   spook 06-02-2006, 21:25 .......... I know various british rappers - I'm still in touch with the Nott's crew when I lived there (years ago), and I've a coupla of cousins who "doin' their thang", down in London. I know my *****, I know what I like, it's a personal preference. Some Brit rappers have dope beats, but like I said previously, 'the flow/skills' generally ain't good! Check 'U' channel on Sky for some comedy moments. All credit to Brit Hip-hop scene, but thanks I'll fly USA! Now if we're talking UK Soul....? :) Kthebean 07-02-2006, 11:09 Oh, boo ya'self!   :hihi:  Each to their own, innit. Jurassic 5 EP - starts off great, tapers off a bit but can't beat Concrete Schoolyard Snoop - Doggystyle Cyprus Hill - Black Sunday Mos Def - Black on Both Sides Wu Tang - Enter the Wu Tang and the first album that got me into rap/hip hop - Beastie Boys - Licenced to Ill! Booch - I know what you mean about Channel U - some of it is dire! South London crews with about 15 members, all of them bad - and that's bad in the traditional meaning of the word! I did like that Lethal Bizzle track though - POW! Good for when you're angry. And Kano is pretty good. You can tell if they're any good - they get promoted from 'U' to the more mainstream MTV channels like Base. nessagarton 07-02-2006, 12:26 you cannot beat Biggie, Tupac, Snoopdogg, coolio and Dre. they are all amazing. changes by tupac. what a legendary song that is. DMX. he is good too though i will deffinatly agree with that. And i will give credit to eminem cause all his stuff is about subjects close to the heart. jay z is a very good artist. ja rule and fabolus are good listening too. ok. i cant pick a favorite. Notorious 07-02-2006, 12:26 1st) The notorious one: 'biggie smalls is the illest' 2nd) Nas: 'the last real n****r alive that official' 3rd) between: Eminem, DMX, ludicris, There my faves Its a shame you can't go out anywhere in sheffield to hear them.....     Notorious 07-02-2006, 12:31 . Uncle_G 07-02-2006, 12:44 "It's unbelieeeeeevable" Loving biggie too! Booch 07-02-2006, 13:05 Its a shame you can't go out anywhere in sheffield to hear them.....     It's a damned shame! Trouble is, they'll always be 'players' within the Hip-Hop Fratenity, I've no problem with them acting like one, but, FFS, leave the attitude at home, infact leave it to the 'artiste'! I do miss going out to hear the tunes! Back in the day, the Limit (RIP) on a Saturday afternoon was ace. And, before the Criminal Justice act was brought in - clubbing then was so different, more freer. Sheffield seems to be lacking a decent night to say it's the 4th biggest village, erm sorry, city in England. Lucretia - Kano's not too bad actually. U channel is funny, although there's some flashes of genius. How did I forget the Jizza?:loopy: Lucretia_73 07-02-2006, 13:50 so what would people think of a hiphop night in sheff...no r'n'b ********, just pure hiphop from back in the day thru to today, from all over? kinda thinkin of doin a little one-off somewhere... That would be great but I'd be afraid that the trouble that seems to kick off at RnB nights would also be present at Hip Hop nights - the 'players' that Booch mentioned. It's annoying when you hear stuff about people pulling guns at Hip Hop gigs - idiots... There wasn't any trouble (at least that I saw) at the Devonshire Festy last summer though - that was really chilled but I guess out in the sun and open air in the daytime is very different to a club atmosphere where no matter what music is playing something always seems to kick off somewhere:mad: Notorious 07-02-2006, 13:59 Good idea johnbradley, Lets get one sorted................ Sheffield deserves this...!! orenishii 07-02-2006, 16:34 In no particular order: from UK - Kano - brilliant MC - hes comin to Leadmill 08/03 as well - i'll be there Dizzee - as above - both these artists are better garage mcs than hiphop though really and how could anyone forget Hoodz Underground? Not a fan of them myself but we should be supporting local talent! Big up Hoodz... from US: Nas Mobb Deep Busta/Jay Z (non commercial ish if you can really say that) Wu Tang (old skool) Juelz Santana Game...I think I can say this now he has no affiliation with GUnit My faves gotta be Mobb though. Pity they've signed to G Unit as well. What about female rappers? Anyone rate them? Not any from UK that are much cop to be honest, but stateside Lil Kim kills it... Booch 07-02-2006, 16:39 What about female rappers? Anyone rate them? Not any from UK that are much cop to be honest, but stateside Lil Kim kills it... Not a massive Hip Hop fan tho, Snoop rules also, he is Midas :hihi: spyro2000 07-02-2006, 20:29 My fave female rapper is Missy Elliot by a clear mile. Left Eye from TLC was decent aswell. RIP Ginner 07-02-2006, 23:56 ....and the first album that got me into rap/hip hop - Beastie Boys - Licenced to Ill!.... Aaargh. Forgot the Beasties. One of the best live Hip Hop acts. I saw Cypress Hill, Funkdoobiest and House of Pain at Nottingham's Rock :suspect: City (many moons ago), and Cypress Hill's, B Real (in particular) was awesome. Should also mention Little Brother, love them too. 9th Wonder, Phonte and Big Pooh have mad skills. orenishii 08-02-2006, 10:51 seems like some of you lot know your hiphop! Forgot to mention RawT.. big up big big Manchester talent.. Not too sure about Skinnyman... sure hes got some lyrics, but I can't escape the fact he looks like a crackhead..very shallow I know! Erm what about LadySov!! LOL! Don't really rate Missy..decent videos though... Ok what about fave hiphop movies? Gotta say Friday/Juice though I don't know if they are really hiphop films, but still... Get Rich or Die Tryin..?! Lucretia_73 08-02-2006, 11:10 CB4!! Love it:D Not sure how many movies can be referred to as hip hop movies so do we include all the ones that feature rappers? Most of those seem to be about violence in the Hood with a hip hop soundtrack. Speaking of which, Boyz n The Hood is a classic but I dunno whether it could be referred to as a hip hop movie. Same with Menace to Society. Great film. I saw Get Rich or Die Tryin' last week - it wasn't bad. You can always rely on a rapper to play himself. Think I preferred it to 8 Mile. I'm so bored of Eminem. Agent Dan 08-02-2006, 11:21 MFdoom, J-dilla (jaydee), Skinnyman these guys are on form, proper rap artists - unlike that 50 pence bag of crap Lol! Well said! Skinnyman has an excellent political outlook too, and is always willing to stop and have a chat with fans (met him at gigs in Norwich and Derby) My recent favourites are: Danger Doom (formerly MF Doom) MC Hawking (no, really) Killa Kella (UK beatbox extraordinaire) and top 5 old school classics: The Pharcyde Cyprus Hill Gang Starr Redman Wu Tang Clan As for movies... Has anyone ever seen NWH: Fear of the black hat? One of the best films EVER! Kthebean 08-02-2006, 11:26 What about Big L? I really liked Lifestylez of the Poor and Dangerous. The rest of all the DITC crew as well. That track Dignified Soldiers. 'Put it on' by Big L is one of my favourite Hip Hop tracks. Lucretia_73 08-02-2006, 11:35 As for movies... Has anyone ever seen NWH: Fear of the black hat? One of the best films EVER! That's the one I couldn't remember the title for that I always associate together with CB4. Another comedy movie. Tone Def, Tasty Taste and Ice Cold, lol. I've got CB4 but not been able to find a copy of NWH. One of those two has a cool track by Fu Schnickens on the soundtrack. Agent Dan 08-02-2006, 11:35 Pointless trivia >> "Big L rest in peace" is the first line one of my favourite Gang Starr records 'Full Clip' (as Venger mentioned earlier) Agent Dan 08-02-2006, 11:36 Lucretia - I have a copy taped from Channel 4 like 10 years ago or something - Awesome film!! Booch 08-02-2006, 11:46 The Pharcyde Dope! - Saw them for free at the Leadmill (many moons ago, again), I was travelling over from Nottingham with a few mates, and was meeting up with my bro and his crew, when we arrived, I was told there had been a small fire (electrical fault:suspect: ) and everyone was outside waiting to go back in. Anyway, the long and short of it was, we got in for free (We didn't have tickets, but hoping to buy on the door!) :hihi: Fatlip was ace..... Re Movies: Do the Right Thing was fav of mine! Friday/Juice/Boyz/Menace are like Lucretia already said. Saw Belly and a film with DMX in the lead role which the film's name escapes my memory:( Agent Dan 08-02-2006, 11:53 Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde is the ultimate hip hop album for me. Top 3 album of any genre! So many classics on their, with good technical rap skills, very witty lyrics and really soulful sounds. Only Jurassic 5 have come close in their sound, but they've not done an album that compares well as a whole Lucretia_73 08-02-2006, 12:31 Lucretia - I have a copy taped from Channel 4 like 10 years ago or something - Awesome film!! Unfortunately I accidently told my DVD drive to be region 2 about 6 months ago, and I don't know how to unlock it again... :( Kthebean 08-02-2006, 12:34 I'll have to buy that Agent Dan. I'm a big fan of Jurrasic 5. Last year at leeds festival we saw GLC in the morning, Jurrasic 5 and DJ Format in the afternoon, then in the evening we saw DJ Numark, Roots Manuva with Chali 2Na as a guest and then 2 Many Djs all in a row in the dance tent. I nearly died of happiness. Truly one of the best days of my life. Lucretia_73 08-02-2006, 12:37 Saw Belly and a film with DMX in the lead role which the film's name escapes my memory:( DMX had a role opposite Jet Li in Cradle to the Grave. Is that the one you're thinkin' of? Lucretia_73 08-02-2006, 12:41 Wow, that was fast! ;) Thanks for the link. Booch 08-02-2006, 12:57 DMX had a role opposite Jet Li in Cradle to the Grave. Is that the one you're thinkin' of? No. Typical story about a young man caught up in the hood, being bad, peer pressure, etc... Terrell Hicks also stars... Sorry, when I was watching it, I had the flu, so I don't remember much. I'll ask my sister later, and get the answer.:) sheffieldism 08-02-2006, 13:02 [QUOTE=orenishii] Not too sure about Skinnyman... sure hes got some lyrics, but I can't escape the fact he looks like a crackhead..very shallow I know! Forgot to say gangstarr - full clip - everyone should have this I don't like to put all MCs in the hiphop bracket. For example, I think Bounty Killer is brilliant, a real poet, but he ain't hiphop. Poor people governor! Brraapp! Anyway LadySov anyone?! sheffieldism 08-02-2006, 14:05 i rate lady sov definately, she has a quality sound to her voice and for a uth she laughing! She's really fit though Lucretia_73 08-02-2006, 14:20 Just been for lunch and got to thinking about old hip hop tracks that stood out for me when I was younger before I ever really noticed music genres or categorised things - individual tracks that I heard and liked years ago. Came up with the following... Ice T - G.L.G.B.N.A.F Above The Law - Freedom of Speech MC Eiht - Straight Up Menace Doug E Fresh - The Show Warren G - Regulate Tone Loc - Funky Cold Medina DJ Kool - Let Me Clear my Throat Skeelo - I Wish I was a Little Bit Taller LL Cool J - I need Love (awwwwww) There's loads more I'm sure... I let you know when it arrives!! p.s. the views of Agent Dan are in no way connected to those of the Forum, who wouldn't advocate piracy at all. Good plan. It's not really piracy if you're copying something you bought for your own personal use surely...well, maybe it is but I don't think it's illegal. I'm kind of fuzzy over piracy laws;) Booch 08-02-2006, 14:25 Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde is the ultimate hip hop album for me. Top 3 album of any genre! So many classics on their, with good technical rap skills, very witty lyrics and really soulful sounds. Only Jurassic 5 have come close in their sound, but they've not done an album that compares well as a whole Agreed with you on the Pharcyde tip, not on Jurassic 5 tho..... Swings and roundabouts eh:rolleyes: :) Some of you might baulk at Busta Rhymes for the countless times he's guest-appeared with the 'pop' element (Janet Jackson, PussyCat Dudes, etc), but from his 'Leader of the New School' days to present, he's up there for me. Agent Dan 08-02-2006, 15:43 Busta is technically very skilled - I think the world's fastest rapper? But I agree his work is usually too commercial (for my taste). Break your neck was quite good, and I remember owning 'woo-hah I got ya all in check' on single at some point... What is the difference between an MC and rapper? An MC raps, chats, spits, and so does a rapper..? Originally MCs hyped up the dance, and especially in and around the garage scene, thats where things started I think. Since that, people like Kano/Dizzee have made a career out of it. Before UKG there was jungle/DnB... they had MCs also...None really made it big I don't think? I think Twista is supposed to be the worlds fastest rapper... What about MC Hammer? MC or rapper? Anyone heard any blackalicious? spyro2000 08-02-2006, 16:11 Im not sure on a definite answer on what the difference between a rapper and an MC is. I consider myself to be an MC, but I cant rap for schyt. I MC mainly over Drum n Bass and garage, but I fall flat on my arse if I try doing ity over a Rap track. MC Hammer isnt a rapper or an MC :hihi: Agent Dan 08-02-2006, 16:11 MC Hammer = pillock. Sorry but he didn't stand the test of time for me, except for "U can't touch this" which I have fond childhood memories of. Bellacboy 08-02-2006, 22:52 another good female rapper: rah digga fastest rapper: Gift of Gab (blackalicious) is pretty damn fast. Also, has anyone heard any Eyedea? Some of his double time bits are mind boggling. favourite lyrics: Aesop Rock fits more good lines into one song than most rappers fit into a whole career. There are many examples but one that springs to mind is ' I used to have a rope ladder , but tattered were the rungs, I hung it from the highest willow, trying to hug the sun. The seventh level buckled and I tumbled from the summit. Now I'm back to re-climb, and this time light my cigarette from it' or 'I've got 20 ways to tell you shut the f**k up, 19 of them are 24 bars long, the other goes shut the f**k up' Still no-one has mentioned company flow. Am I the only one that thought they were amazing, or have people just not heard them. Agent Dan 09-02-2006, 09:19 Gotta love the Wu Tang's "Da Mystery of Chessboxin" from "36 chambers"... although the whole track is in well up in my top 5, Masta Killa's verse at the end is superb! Really good flow and rhythm to his lyrics, and a verbal complexity that's often missing from modern hip hop! Anybody else remember it? I think he was a west coast rapper. Nowadays, I'm still listening to Jigga. His stuff never seems to age to me. Some 50 Cent, but he's an average rapper at his best IMO. Listen to a bit of Cam'Ron also. He's one of the worst rappers I've ever heard, but the beats he uses are brilliant. littleboo 08-06-2006, 19:06 no mentions of Q-tip or Jeru the Damaja yet, both highly underrated spyro2000 08-06-2006, 19:11 [QUOTE=littleboo]no mentions of Q-tip or Jeru the Damaja /QUOTE] This thread is abour rappers thats why :hihi: Q Tip is alright I suppose, although he does always seem to sound the same on every single track. 'low end theory' is a crackin album, q-tip does the business on that...also, jeru gets it bang on with 'wrath of the math', tho premo's production helps him out a lot... but if your going to talk about all-time, then not many can touch rakim...for being responsible for ushering in the 'new school', for dedication to writing complexity, for the voice, and also for having bangers in the 80s and 90s the only rapper close is guru, but again, premier adds a ton of weight behind ol' baldhead:) littleboo 08-06-2006, 21:21 I would just like to point out that the views posted on this thread are that of my husbands!!!
