Shiregreen buses went from there. British Restaurants were opened primarily because our weekly meat ration was so meagre. So, if you required more, all you had to do was pop into a British Restaurant where meat, mash (or chips) and two veg was readily available at a very low cost. For an extra three old pennies you couldalso get either apple pie and custard or rice pudding. Not a bad meal, considering the times we lived in flyer 05-02-2006, 11:47 Use to eat in one regular 46-50 in the Leicester Market grand-ma gave me a tanner to go and eat every sat,we stood onthe market for 8hrs & that was my reward, just can't quite remember the name. sweetdexter 06-02-2006, 00:12 You are right peterw,Bridge St, West Bar,.Across the road the bus terminal, Never had the money to eat in one, or my mother didn't Falls 06-02-2006, 00:51 There was also a British Restaurant at the end of Pond Street, where it joined the end of Sheaf Street. There may also have been one set-up in the bottom level of the City Hall, but I'm not 100% on this. Texas 06-02-2006, 18:42 There was a 'British Restaurant' across the road from the City Hall, left hand side, back of Andrews the school stationary shop. Floridablade 12-04-2006, 03:06 Yes I remember the one near the City Hall,I got a free meal there the morning after the thursday blitz and a cuppa at the WVS van. I often wonder about the people who turned up for work with the fires still raging and fireman lying down exhausted by the side of the road. When I went back a couple of years ago and saw the yobos I said to myself, what went wrong, these kids are related to the heroes of the war. |
