View Full Version : How Much Would You Be Prepared To Pay.......
Agent Orange 24-03-2004, 08:02 ..to see your favourite band/artist?
What with Madonna charging up to £400 a ticket for her up and coming London gig I was wondering what people would be prepared to pay to see their favourite band/artist play live? Personally, I wouldn't pay anything more than £50 to see any of my favourite bands and I can't see the attraction with parting with anything more just for one night!!
Skatiechik 24-03-2004, 09:15 £400 a ticket :o
I won't pay more than £30 for a gig

Yeah, up to £400 for the best seats in the house and averaging £200 after that.
Fantomas 24-03-2004, 09:52 Where did you hear that? According to NME.com the most expensive tickets are £150. Of course, that's still way too much!

Personally there's not many I'd pay over the odds to see.
The only person I can really think of for me is Tom Waits. If he ever tours again I'd be prepared to pay £100+, and I'd also travel pretty much anywhere in Europe to see him if I had to.
That's very much the exception tho, I don't really see how anyone can justify charging more than £25 even for the biggest gigs, and it's especially galling when you know the artist doesn't need the money. Sheer greed.
DaBouncer 24-03-2004, 10:00 I think I'd pay up to £50 max... and that'd have to be a great line up.
I went to see Eminem 'Anger Management Tour' last year and that cost me £30. It was the BEST event i've been to, with performances from not only the great Eminem, but Cypress Hill, Obie Trice and D12 (full review - here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1213&highlight=eminem+concert)).
I'd never pay over £50 (not in this day and age... not until £200 is like £30 of todays money)!

I heard it on Radion 1's newsbeat or whatever it's called!! Whatever the price, I think it is totally disgusting that someone thinks it is perfectly acceptable to charge over the odds for tickets to their performance.

Agreed.
For my 30th birthday a couple of years ago a mate got me a copy of the NME that was published the week I was born. Looking at the gig section of that is an eye-opener. David Bowie for 50p! If my maths is correct a generous 10% per year rise on that for 32 years is still only £10.56!!!
Agent Orange 24-03-2004, 10:22 Wish I could see David Bowie now for 50p
It depends how much money I had going spare. I've only got £50 left in the world at the moment, but I would gladly give it up to see Robbie Williams live.
Phanerothyme 24-03-2004, 11:37 I'd pay a few hundred to see Frank Zappa, just to see how they did it; considering he's been dead for a while.

They'd use the same Thunderbirds technology they're already using on Ozzy Osbourne and Brian Wilson.
Agent Dan 24-03-2004, 11:44 Frank Zappa? Hell yeah! That'd be class... maybe we could stage it as a scam?! My dad looks like him anyway, and his hair's still black!!! :D

She wants HOW much?????:wow:
Is that a quid for every year she's been alive?
:D
thenewborn 24-03-2004, 13:56 spent 35 quid going to see metallica in december, and it was worth every penny. about hundred for leed festival isnt it?
Id possibly pay £100 to see Pink Floyd play again, but other than that I wont pay more than an album (ie. a tenner) to see anyone live. If at all really because Im not a fan of live music.

It is indeed and unlike the Madonna gig you actually get to see more than one band and most of which are actually talented unlike that money grabbing bitch. :D
I saw 'tallica last December and they rocked! :headbang:
SatanInHeels 24-03-2004, 17:42 i would pay more to go to somewhere like the downlod festival which is around £100 i think, but apart from that i wouldnt pay more than £50, and i cant imagine who that would be for, the most i have paid so far is £25 for iron maiden which was the best gig i have been to so far, and £30 for marilyn manson!
Sam Miguel 24-03-2004, 17:51 I'd buy the Album, get a load of booze in and phone a curry up.
Luxury.
