View Full Version : Which is the most romantic song ever?
hotdogbird 04-02-2006, 15:00 Well after setting up the business of serenade4u I've come accross some fairly obscure song choices and also some classics.
Which song in your opinion is the most romantic song ever written?
What song would you choose to have someone sing to your loved one?

www.serenade4u.com
sorry about that shameless plug yet again!!! haha
It's just fun hearing about your fave songs....honest:love:
Why isn't this under Entertainment Chat?
matt1889 04-02-2006, 15:12 Why cant this be under General Sheffield Chat?, I mean it is a thread aimed a getting a Sheffield Opinion......
Its not Advertising any Artist / Event, therefore it fits perfect in This section!
Matt
Ousetunes 04-02-2006, 15:17 I Just Called To Say I Love You always brings a lump to my throat.
Usually vomit.
And I Will Always Love You has me reaching for the radio - with a hammer.
Depends what you mean by romantic? Personally I like the Smiths though I doubt you'll get many requests to sing Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others.
Howsabout Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel, a song about a crushed rabbit? Now THAT'S what I call romantic.
Now, would you kindly pass the sauce...
matt1889 04-02-2006, 15:21 Im sure most of the titles listed on the site below!

Thats a bit of a weak argument isnt it Matt ;)
You and I both know that this has nothing to do with Sheffield chat whatsoever. :)
Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen
Please Release Me - Englebert Humperdink
On a serious note, how about:
Nothin' Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor
Armageddon - Aerosmith
Why cant this be under General Sheffield Chat?, I mean it is a thread aimed a getting a Sheffield Opinion......
As nearly every thread on the board is giving / getting Sheffield opinions that'd mean why not lump them all in one big section. We're getting more and more posts being stuck in any old section which is making the Forum more of a mess in my opinion.
Ronan Keating, If tomorrow never comes...thats a lovely song:cry:
spyro2000 04-02-2006, 15:30 Wifey - Next
.
Ousetunes 04-02-2006, 15:31 If You Leave Me Now by Chicago - stunningly beautiful
Most Beautiful Girl In The World - Charlie Rich
Baby Can I Hold You - Tracy Chapman
Without You by Badfinger (although Harry Nilson's version is better)
I Don't Want To Talk About It - Rod Stewart though I prefer EBTG's version
Right Here Waiting - Richard Marx
Don't Walk Away by Electric Light Orchestra
In Dreams by Roy Orbison who sings it like he really means it
I'm getting all melancoly now..
matt1889 04-02-2006, 15:36 I thinks............
Robbie Williams - Angels
Lionel Richie - Endless love
Bangles - Eternal Flame
sugarnspice 04-02-2006, 15:45 Let's Stay Together by Al Green would certainly be up there for me.
*Goes away to think some more*
tslogf74 04-02-2006, 16:16 I'll Stand By You by The Pretenders.
matsalleh 04-02-2006, 16:35 Every Time we Say Goodbye
Ella Fitzgerald.
You're all I need to Get By - Marvin Gaye and Tammi Tyrell
LOVE - Dwele
Don't Talk (Put your Head on my Shoulder) - Beach Boys
To be in Love - MAW feat. India
Blown a Wish - My Bloody Valentine
Sweet Thing - Rufus & Chaka Khan
Unconditional Eyes - Amp Fiddler
Is this Love? - Bob Marley
Love don't Come no Stronger - Jeff Perry
Never Too Much - Luther Vandross
[edit]: for ages I thought that MBV track was called Make a Wish. I've now changed it innit.
hotdogbird 04-02-2006, 18:16 Sorry if you think it should be in a different section Longcol. Apologies.
I have to agree with Beamer about the song 'if tomorrow never comes' although I'd go for Garth brooks version over Ronan keating's any day.
Most people booking serenades so far have gone for things like
My Girl - Temptations
Sweetest Feeling - Jackie wilson
Three times a lady - Lionel richie
She's the one - Robbie Williams
Have I told you lately that I love you - Van Morrison
I suppose it's best to go for a classic when you're dedicating a Live song to a loved one.
Thanks for all your suggestions....keep them coming

Lucretia_73 04-02-2006, 18:45 Sweet Child Of Mine! Well, someone sang it to me when I was 16...dunno if it was an especially romantic moment but it hit the spot.
Other personal faves...
These Arms of Mine - Otis Reading
To Know Him Is To Love Him - The Teddy Bears (written by Phil Spector)
Brown Skin - India Arie
Black Is The Colour (Of My True Love's Hair) - Celtic song, my ex-fiancee used to play Christy Moore's version for me back when I was a goth, with black hair surprisingly enough. Ah...he did get the occasional thing right, along with quoting Byron to me - She Walks in Beauty Like the Night...soppy get!
'I'll Wear It Proudly' - Elvis Costello.
I hate these flaming curtains they're not the colour of your hair
I hate these striplights they're not so undoing as your stare
I hate the buttons on your shirt when all I wanna do is tear
I hate this bloody big bed of mine when you're not here
Well I finally found someone to turn me upside down
And nail my feet up where my head should be
If they had a king of fools then I could wear that crown
And you can all die laughing because I'll wear it proudly
Well you seem to be shivering dear and the room is awfully warm
In the white and scarlet billows that subside beyond the storm
You have this expression dear no words could take its place
And I wear it like a badge that you put all over my face
I'll wear it proudly through the dives and the dancehalls
If you'll wear it proudly through the snakepits and catcalls
Like a fifteen year old kid wears a vampire kiss
If you don't know what is wrong with me
Then you don't know what you've missed
We are arms and legs wrapped round more than my memory tonight
When the bell rang out and the air outside turned blue from fright
But in shameless moments you made more of me than just this mess
And a handful of eagerness says what do you suggest?
CherryNicole 04-02-2006, 18:57 Paul Weller - You do something to me
Yellowrose 04-02-2006, 19:01 Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits.
Lionel richie - stuck on you
Donna Lewis - I love you always forever
Lonestar - amazed
Bryan Adams - Heaven
Daniel Bedingfield - If your not the one
Eric Carmen - Hungry Eyes
there my faves anyway!! xx
crowefan 04-02-2006, 21:43 my favourite is MOON RIVER
so romantic and beautifull
StarSparkle 04-02-2006, 21:56 May be slightly unusual choices, but I think
The Smiths "There is a Light that Never goes Out"
Frankie Goes to Hollywood "The Power of Love"
The Only Ones "The Whole of the Law"
are all very romantic and beautiful and moving.
Perhaps they're a bit too off the beaten track for your purposes, though, Hotdogbird :D
StarSparkle
sheff_ladi 04-02-2006, 21:59 'Nothing compares 2 u' wins for me every time!
"Brickbat" by Billy Bragg and yeah I'd go with StarSparkle on "There is a light...."
Here's a few of my favourites. Not that I'm a slushy romantic at all, no sirree.... :)

Hello - Lionel Ritchie
Eternal Flame - Bangles
Ace Of Spades - Motorhead?
I'm rather enjoying getting mushy to this lovely little ditty by the Postal Service:
Such Great Hights (Excerpt)
I am thinking it's a sign that the freckles
In our eyes are mirror images and when
We kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate that God himself
Did make us into corresponding shapes like
Puzzle pieces from the clay
True, it may seem like a stretch, but
Its thoughts like this that catch my troubled
Head when you're away when I am missing you to death
.....
Then I heard the cover of it by Iron & Wine from the Garden State soundtrack, which is even more beautiful.

Battleship Chains by the Georgia Satellites :D
Cherry Pie by Warrant
I shan't go on, coz I know the rest of you won't agree :(

redrobbo 09-02-2006, 00:54 I'd go with JoeP on one of his choices....
"The first time ever I saw your face" - but it has to be by Roberta Flack
One of the most romantic songs for me though is 'Danny Boy'. I remember my late Uncle Johnny in County Durham singing this when I was but a lad. He'd bring tears to the eyes of grown men with his rendition of this traditional song.
StarSparkle 09-02-2006, 15:11 I'm SO sorry I couldn't face trawling through all the soppy answers I suspect fill this thread, but....
Well, if you had faced trawling through this thread, you might have been quite surprised. Not all the suggestions were the usual romantic 'mush'. As usual, you underestimate your fellow Forummers.
Open your mind, Strix, and find out :P

Sixpence None The Richer - Kiss Me
Kiss me out of the bearded barley
Nightly, beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear that dress.
[Chorus:]
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon's sparkling
So kiss me
Kiss me down by the broken tree house
Swing me upon its hanging tire
Bring, bring, bring your flowered hat
We'll take the trail marked on your father's map
[Chorus (repeat)]

Its 'Why' by AVRIL LAVIGNE
Why, do you always do this to me?
Why, couldn't you just see through me?
How come, you act like this
Like you just don't care at all
Do you expect me to believe I was the only one to fall?
I can feel, I can feel you near me, even though you're far away
I can feel, I can feel you baby, why
It's not supposed to feel this way
I need you, I need you
More and more each day
It's not supposed to hurt this way
I need you, I need you, I need you
Tell me, are you and me still together?
Tell me, do you think we could last forever?
Tell me, why
Hey, listen to what we're not saying
Let's play, a different game than what we're playing
Try, to look at me and really see my heart
Do you expect me to believe I'm gonna let us fall apart?
I can feel, I can feel you near me, even when you're far away
I can feel, I can feel you baby, why
It's not supposed to feel this way
I need you, I need you
More and more each day
It's not supposed to hurt this way
I need you, I need you, I need you
Tell me, are you and me still together?
Tell me, you think we could last forever?
Tell me, why
So go and think about whatever you need to think about
Go on and dream about whatever you need to dream about
And come back to me when you know just how you feel, you feel
I can feel, I can feel you near me, even though you're far away
I can feel, I can feel you baby, why
It's not supposed to hurt this way
I need you, I need you
More and more each day
It's not supposed to hurt this way
I need you, I need you, I need you
Tell me
It's not supposed to hurt this way
I need you, I need you
More and more each day
It's not supposed to hurt this way
I need you, I need you, I need you
Tell me, are you and me still together?
Tell me, do you think we could last forever?
Tell me, why
