Does anybody think it's true that the older you get the wiser you become?

Why is it that old people are seen as soft targets for these conmen.

Difficult one that! I suppose it is possible to grow wiser in a life experience sense, but generally I think it's probably debateable!:D Sorry, if that's sitting on the fence but must admit always had my doubts on this myself but will always remember it being said by my parents.

No.

If you're thick - you're thick.

I think everyone gets wiser as they get older.

However, there does seem to be a point at which some old people... how can I put it? ... begin to regress. No offence!

It could be a fact that they have a large knowledge base in their heads but it depends on the trends they have lived through.

These sort of modern day cons probably never happened while they were going through life in yesteryear and as such they are paying the penalty now.

The older generation are more trusting remember because they are from a different time, a time when you could trust people to do the right thing.

They are wiser in a lot of ways, but naive on more modern traits!

A conman would hoodwink even the clever gits. Especially the young clever dicks. I was looking after my fathers house while he was in Bangkok. He had just had his smoke alarm checked. A few days later while I was looking after the house, a 20 ish looking bloke knocked at the door, he told me he had been sent by the council to check all alarms. I looked past him for a vehicle, there was none, he didn't have a card either. I invited him in and locked the door. He turned round as if he was worried. I took him upstairs and showed him the alarm, he said he was going to fetch some steps. I told him to use the ones in the house. He hadn't a clue what to do. I grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and told him if I saw him again, the police would only become involved after I had dealt with him. I don't ask anyone to believe that, but it's true. I called myself a prat afterwards but there you go. I suppose I was in a bad mood.

I can't say I would have done it differently.
Well done!

I think in the main that it does as it comes with life experience. Some people though never seem to mature however old they are while on the other hand some young people ( Caprice are your ears burning?) are incredibly mature.

Older means wiser in my book.

Being intelligent and being wise are two completely seperate things. Being wise is something that an individual evolves through having lots of different life experiences.

So the older you get, and the more experiences you have, the wiser you get.

Simple as that.

As to whether an individual implements his or her growing wisdom is another matter.

yea i think that older people are going to be wiser because they have lived through more things and generally know more about life.

nothing to do with maturity and intelligence, some people will never be intelligent and there are many people i know who im sure will never be mature, or older people who definatly aren't (nothing wrong with that usually)

just my opinion
