Can anyone recommend any nice (i.e. not too smoky, serving tasty food, having roaring fires a bonus...) traditional pubs to have lunch in tomorrow (Saturday) in either Hillsborough, Walkley, Broomhill or the surrounding area?

I have a car so going out to the countryside is also an option. Not more than about half an hour's drive from Hillsborough is preferable though.

Thanks!

...I should add I'm taking non-English people out with me who want to experience a traditional English pub lunch with tasty home cooked food - so preferably no chain pubs serving plastic lasagne and tepid chicken korma!

The pub in Dungworth (I think its called the crown, but I might be wrong) is a nice traditional pub with real ales and is famous for its extensive pie menu. You'd have to drive but its easy to get to from your side of town.

The New Barrack Tavern..Penistone Road. Real ales. Decent grub.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I didn't see them in time but I'll definitely check out those two places another on another occassion.

We ended up going to Grindleford to the Maynard Arms. It wasn't exactly what I had in mind but the food was very tasty and my friends loved it. The sticky toffee pudding was particularly delicious!

Is the one in Dungworth called The Royal Hotel by any chance..? I like the sound of famous pies!

Yes, you're quite right. The royal hotel, not the crown. crown was in the right ballpark though. Definately worth a visit if you enjoy a good pie.

Yes I do. Pie munching it is for me next weekend then! Thanks for that!
