View Full Version : Why fix potholes on traffic 'calmed' roads?

Just a thought here.

I have a theory that it is pointless for the council to bother fixing potholes on the many roads with humps on them. After all - its like having more road humps for free because you still have to slow down to avoid the bloody things!! This also aplies to the maintenace of said humps too.

Could it be a handy excuse to lower the road maintenance budget?

Any thoughts?

What a cracking idea Bibble.

But aren't the potholes on roads with speed bumps in fact caused by various bits and pieces falling off cars due to the speedbumps shaking them loose in the first place?

don't they make the speedhumps out of the bits that come out of the potholes...where does the stuff that was in the pothole go???

I agree about bumps in the roads, but some of the pot holes are damn dangerous! Especially on Carlise Street!

I think there is supposed to be some kind of 'reasonable' depth measurement for an acceptable pothole (if there is such a thing!)
I could be wrong but I think it may be one inch, or 25mm. Any deeper than that and it is supposed to get some kind of priority fix.
Looks like they are gonna be pretty busy then!!

And yes, good point Wibbles! Where do all the bits go?

Fixing them does seem a bit of a waste of time on the face of it. But I'd rather my tax went on that than on a holiday for someone who decided to sue the council for whiplash cos they went over a pothole at 45mph in a 20mph zone - which is doubtless what would be allowed to happen in our increasingly litigous society
