Sounds like it could be Wincobank to me.

Yup I presume it is Wincobank. Area is okay, I guess it all boils down to what views you are looking for.
If Meadowhall, a gas container and a motorway is fine, then I guess Wincobank is okay. Personally I couldn't live with those views.
What type of engineering work would you be looking for?
my husbands a welder does all sorts really site and factory work we need to know if work is an issue in sheffield we are thinking of giveing up everything here to move to sheffield.
These areas are at the bottom of the hill its Brightside, then Half way up the hill and above is higher Wincobank! to the far left of it is Grimesthorpe (higher nr the comunity centre) and to the far right is lower wincobank.
Thay are all nice just try and avoid lower wincobank eg, fife street.
also dont go for the grimesthorpe nr pitsmoore stick to the brightside bit .

I've been told that Brightside is worse than Pitsmoor, but any area has its troubles.

There are a lot of fab shop in Sheffield so i can't see getting a job being to difficult.I don't know what the pays like down in Northampton but the genral factory welders rate varies from £6-£7.50 in Sheffield.
There are quite a few companys in and around Sheffield who specialize(sp) in pipe work, pressure vessels, air craft component, large fabrications so if your husbands coded up to do that sort of stuff then obviously you can add a couple of quid to the rate.
Hope that help.

Engineerings in a slump at the moment, especially in Sheffield - I'd sort a job out before making any other plans to be honest.

I've heard that too and having worked in a recruitment agency (albeit 4 years ago) in Rotherham and had to deal with a number of welders looking for work would agree he would be better finding work first.
Also as you no doubt will notice I live in Wincobank. I would agree with Fuzbuz that there are parts of lower wincobank that are a bit rough, Fife Street being one. However, as someone else said no area is without its problems. We've been here for 2 years now and haven't had any problem at all, really quiet - we lived in Firth Park before.
I think the houses you mean are the new ones on the top of Jenkin Hill (Ridge View Road I think they're on). I've heard they are nice houses, quite pricey though (around the 100,000 pound price I think). I would recommend that you come and look and spend some time in the area, best way to find out. I agree it's not the best side of Sheffield but I like it and as for the views, well I can see all the way to Thorpe Hesley and Kepple's Column with all the countryside in between from my back garden, I think that is difficult to beat.
