We drove down from the bottom of corporation street to the wicker about an hour or so ago and passed a couple of police cars near to that testing laboratory and an area had been cordoned off. Couldn't see anything other than a black cab stopped chatting to the police and a policeman a bit futher down the road towards the wicker looking about.

I saw the same thing at about the same time.

If you saw a large red motorcycle go past, that was me :)

According to Radio Sheffield News this morning, a 55 year old woman was arrested for murder after an "altercation" in a taxi on Nursery Street. Both the woman and the victim were from Greasborough.

Nothing on the BBC website yet to link to, so no further details.

Here's the news release from SY Police:

A 55-year old Rotherham woman is in police custody this morning being
questioned in connection with alleged murder, after a 61-year old man
died following an incident in Sheffield city centre last night.

Police were called just before 9pm last night (1 February) after reports
of an altercation in a taxi. The taxi was on Nursery Street at the time.

The 61-year old man, also from Rotherham, was taken to the Northern
General Hospital where he died a short time later.

The 55-year old woman was arrested a short time later in the city
centre. Both the man and the woman are believed to be from the
Greasborough area.

The cause of death is not yet known but a post mortem examination is
expected to be carried out mid afternoon today (Thursday). We are not
expected to release the man’s name before late afternoon as a formal
identification is yet to take place.

The 55-year old woman has remained in police custody overnight and is
expected to be questioned this morning.

Detectives have studied CCTV and made enquiries in the city overnight to
trace the movements of the man and the woman earlier in the evening.

The woman in question idolised the man that died. She would not harm a hair on his body. it was a freak accident. We hoping this will be proved quite soon. All indications that it was a heart attack. We hope this to be true. VEry frightening for her. You have to know the couple to understand them. A tragic tragic accident that could have happened anywhere anytime. been blown out of all proportion. Police are not investigating a murder merely a death.
