View Full Version : Which brand has the best opaque tights?
DenadaInnit 18-10-2011, 14:48 Hello ladies, I'm wanting a shortcut to which shop/brand has the best opaque tights. This is because I'm fed up with wasting money on ill fitting/rough textured/baggy tights .... well you get the picture.
My latest purchase is two pairs of 80 denier tights from John Lewis for £10. (I know gentlemen, if only you knew how expensive it is to look fab ..).
Anyway, they aren't good :( They make my pants fall down when walking and have that horrible roll down effect when you sit down. Waste of money
Last year I bought some really nice ones. They were quite high up but acted a bit as a slight tummy firmer (they weren't described as such but I think it the way they fitted me). However I can't remember where they are from! Probably either M&S or Dorothy Perkins. It's a shame that they aren't labelled, I guess it's because the suppliers supply more than one shop.
So, which tights do you like? Opaques in any colour but not hipsters and be really smooth and nice. None of your fifteen quid ones either :loopy:
Ooo, and I find the 40 denier ones a bit thin and easily snagged.
Flowersfade 18-10-2011, 15:10 I love Isabella Oliver tights wore them all through my pregnancy and even now. Great fit very long wearing.
dizzy_chick 18-10-2011, 15:18 Tesco Opaque tights are pretty good- the multipack of black ones. Can't remember the denier- it may be 60. They last well and fit ok, and come in a range of sizes. Seem to wash well. I am sure they were £5 per pack for 3 & lasted all winter last year..
I bought a black multipack from Debenhams- I think 60 denier. They have just started running now and I have been wearing them for about a month. Pretty good for about £3.
The tights I have found to be the worst have been the black Bodyshapers from M&S. They are £6 a pair, and have had some great designs. However, they do not last- they get holes in so easily. Last year I kept swapping for a new pair every couple of weeks.
I have just had a coloured pack of 3 from John Lewis (Purple, pink and blue). They seem ok- although the pink pair do fall down!
This is a lengthy post but finding the right tights is like finding the right hairdresser! Soo frustrating...

How much are they and where do you get them? Don't tell me blimmin' London!
Littlepink 18-10-2011, 17:15 I always buy marks and spencers. They are long enough in the leg, are strong at the seams, don't fall down and have a smooth texture !

I wish I was. I end up walking like a penguin sometimes because tights aren't long enough in the leg :hihi:

Then you should do as the penguins do and lie down and slide on your belly.

I like that one :heyhey::heyhey::heyhey::heyhey:

I like that one too:hihi: so if anyone sees a woman laid on her belly, making like a penguin you know it's littlepink ;)

I buy M&S 40 denier opaque tights as I find them comfortable, good quality and and if the weather is cold I just wear two pairs instead of buying the more expensive 80 denier opaque tights.
Flowersfade 18-10-2011, 21:33 How much are they and where do you get them? Don't tell me blimmin' London!
I bought some from the states but you can get them from House of fraser.
jojothecool 18-10-2011, 21:39 Well I always used to buy Marks' tights, but got sick of the expense and the fact that the quality went downhill - they weren't long enough and always ended up halfway down to my knees! I thought I'd try some Primark 'pull your tummy in' tights, and they're brilliant! I've had them for 3 winters and they're still going strong. I chuck them in the washing machine (I always used to handwash my M&S ones) and they don't bobble or stretch.
I'm not a Primark fan, normally, but I certainly wouldn't pay £8=£10 for a pair of inferior tights again, when you can get really good ones from 'Primarni' for £3. (and if the cat puts a claw through them, you're not going to cry about it!)
M&S Autograph (only Autograph, not their other ranges) for day to day, Wolford for evenings and nicer stuff. There are no other brands worth touching - they all end up being a waste of money as they snag and ladder too easily

reeeeaaallllly
Lady Star 18-10-2011, 22:45 Wolford are the best by far - house of fraser used to sell them, but def available online... They're loads more expensive than your usual brand though...
Flowersfade 18-10-2011, 22:46 reeeeaaallllly
Yes AJ really this pathetic obsession you have with me is just plain creepy.
DenadaInnit 13-11-2011, 10:53 Thought I'd report back on the tights situation. The good ones I had last year are from M&S, are 60 denier and £9.50 for pack of three. They are really really nice.
wornout53 13-11-2011, 11:25 Pretty polly, boots or Asda
I got mine from GAP as they were half price and would buy them again, even at full price! Really good quality.
