Can you settle an argument? Which nightclub was 1st.The Cavendish,The Penny Farthing or The Heartbeat. I know The Cavendish opened in May 67, but I seem to remember The Heartbeat being open before that. And if memory serves me,so was The Farthing!

i'm almost certain that it was the Cavendish which was of course the forerunner of Baileys. Where was the Penny Farthing? Was ot on Dixon Lane?

If it helps at all, I know that my mum went to the hearbeat around 1965, if you went down mid week you got a free pass for saturday, she left sheffield in 1967, this I know to be fact.
Hope this helps...

The Heartbeat was the first major chained owned nightclub in Sheffield outside the independents of Esquire, Mojo (or those set up by stringgy), Shortley followed by Penny and then Baileys.

Wasn't the Locarno owned by Mecca before The Heartbeat. And was The Heartbeat followed by Penny and then "Cavendish" not Baileys?

Locarno was a Ballroom before it was converted to a Disco. Was not built as a purpose built Disco.

Think that Top Rank was late 60's early 70's. About the time as Bailey's

The silver blades ice-rink openend in 1963. I think the heartbeat was there then, but at any rate it wouldn't have been there earlier.

So it seems desy was right. Heartbeat - Penny Farthing - Cavendish(Baileys).

I dont know in what order the night clubs started but the Penny Farthing was members only and the DJ was or became the Emperor Rosco. Also the Heartbeat was suposed to be haunted?

That's right. Originally it was The Landsdowne Cinema

I can remember the Locarno being a shop actually. Can't remember exactly what but something like British Home Stores.
First went to it as a dance hall in 1958ish..(Many times)

First actual night club I ever went to was Top Rank but that wasn't until the 70's...not that I'm saying that was the first there, just the first for me...I was a bit busy before that.
